Dd loved (and still loves)

Butternut squash with brocolli and peas
Sweet potato and carrot
Swede and carrot
Green beans, peas and potato

In fact any combo of the above veggies goes down well.

Frenchgirl · 30/06/2003 13:00

dd used to love courgette and banana (she probably wouldn't believe me if I told her now).. Yuk!

codswallop · 30/06/2003 13:01

Thanks Sambo
You see - the butter nut squash is a hassle!

Never thought of beans though...with ds1 i messed around with sweet paotato at great expense in both purchase and wahing powder to remove the blinking stains!!

Pear ... yum yum.

All sweet root vegetables went down well. Green veg. went down if mixed with root veg.

princesspeahead · 30/06/2003 13:04

frenchgirl, so did mine! I think that was an annabel karmel combo, from memory

coddy, I used to do single veg and fruit in icecubes and then make up combos as I went along "one potato cube, one courgette... oh, and lets chuck in a carrot" and then defrost them all in the microwave together and mix them up once done.

much easier

gingernut · 30/06/2003 13:07

Princesspeahead, that's what I did too.

Butternut squash is a hassle but 1 big one makes up vast quantities.

Frenchgirl · 30/06/2003 13:11

I bet you never brought yourself to taste it though princesspeahead!!

I used to think that green beans had an adverse effect on my dd because the first three times she had it (pureed), she fell asleep mid-lunch...

she likes them though now and has them with carrots and peas.

WideWebWitch · 30/06/2003 13:13

Why's butternut squash a hassle? Don't you just put the whole thing in the oven til it's done and then scrape the mush out from inside? If you're then putting it into ice cube containers then even easier, isn't it? Or am I missing something?

princesspeahead · 30/06/2003 13:14

no, I don't think I did try it funnily enough!
green beans gave my dd stomach ache until she was a bit older - I think they can be a bit indigestible for very little ones.
pear was a HUGE favourite, I think I also mixed that with courgette a couple of times!

codswallop · 30/06/2003 13:15

I just wanted normal easy run of the mill veggies - dunno why really. Am doing ice cubes - i remembered that much.

When I whizz it do I add any liquid? cant rmemeber that ds2 had a lot of jars it must be said.

I hate pears myself - all furry and yuck(shivers)

OP posts:
Frenchgirl · 30/06/2003 13:17

I used to add a little milk sometimes (to things like butternut squash, or carrot and potato)

codswallop · 30/06/2003 13:21

I laways found spud went all gloopy

OP posts:
marialuisa · 30/06/2003 13:22

Don't try yam, that was a diaster, although DD quite liked it!

codswallop · 30/06/2003 13:29

LOL

Sweet potato, baked in the oven and mashed with a fork.

prufrock · 30/06/2003 13:30

No www- you aren't missing anything. It is really really easy codswallop, and one of my dd's favourites.
Other veggies I steamed (I had a special steamer/liquidiser but you can do it over a pan) and then added some of the water from the pan until they were the right consistency. Potatoes will go gloopy if you blend them - the starch molecules break down andstick together - I used to mash by hand instead, or bake jacket potatoes till reaaly soft and scoop out the flesh (but really fiddly for large quantities).
DD also loved cauliflower and broccoli. Although I was never entirely sure what she had as I used to freeze stuff by itself like pph, and then forget to label the bags. I was usually pretty sure what was in them ,but dh wasn't, which meant dd once got pureed pork instead of pear in her morning porridge

codswallop · 30/06/2003 13:44

do you freeze the ice trays open orin a bag? ds3 has tries out carrot and is demanding more!

OP posts:
princesspeahead · 30/06/2003 13:46

freeze in trays and then put in ziploc freezer bags (well labelled!!)

Crunchie · 30/06/2003 14:20

I used to freeze in open ice trys and then bung in bags, like this others I did mix up one of each too. However with dd2 she quickly got to 6 - 8 cubes, so then I used to make the veggie mix and dollop about one portion into freezer bags. I seem to remember I was doing this from 6 months, so only 6 weeks after weaning.
Brolli and courgette was a good one in our house, and broc and cauli mix. Actually now the only veggie my dd2 will eat is broccoli, parsnip and sweetcorn. Carrots and others are nogos. odd isn't it!

Enid · 30/06/2003 14:28

half an avocado - mix with half a grated apple, then puree it.

Bossanova · 30/06/2003 15:56

Mr Mash

SoupDragon · 30/06/2003 18:54

Don't puree potato, you need to mash it.

Butternut squash was a big hit here. I cut it in half, buttered it, covered with foil and then roasted it for 1.5 hours at GM4. Used to do "trio of orange vegetables" (BNS, carrot and sweet potato I think).

codswallop · 30/06/2003 19:18

am thinking that the buttenut squash marketing board have brainwashed you all!

OP posts:
codswallop · 30/06/2003 19:18

ps laughed at the pureed pork!
