I want to buy a new curry cook book... I saw one recommended on here a while ago but can't find the thread or remember the name.

So can you recommend a good one?

I have the old edition of this one and love it

50 Great Curries of India by Camellia Panjabi is very good.

I went to Smiths today and not Madhur Jeffery books anywhere. I asked the girl on the till and she said they didn't have any, I asked if they stock them and had just sold out. She said she had never heard of her so I said that doesn't mean they don't stock it. that clearly shocked her as she must have been under the illusion she had heard of every author. She also said they can't stock everything which I answered with true, but you manage to stock a cook book by Sid Owen but nothing by the best Indian cook of all time.

I got a curry book in M&S and it looks really good.

BariatricObama · 03/04/2010 11:52

lol @ sid owen. when you open the book it shouts 'i'm gawing awt!'

MooMinCow · 05/04/2010 19:46

Anjum Anand's most recent one is great.... quite healthy too

Seona1973 · 05/04/2010 19:48

We have the Anjum Anand one - 'Indian cooking made easy'

MooMinCow · 06/04/2010 11:32

This is the one I have. (I am Indian and v. fussy about my curries and this passes our taste tests!) Recommend the prawn/fish recipes especially.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/04/2010 11:55

I second the 50 curries of India by Camellia Panjabi, it is excellent and gives a good background.

I use it all the time - I cook curry at least 3 times a week and I always use this book. I also have the Anjum Amand one but have not found it as useful day by day.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/04/2010 11:56

Which book is that, Moomin, that link doesn't appear to work.

MooMinCow · 06/04/2010 17:18

sorry - try this www.anjumanand.co.uk/index.php/books/anjums-new-indian/

Has good reviews on Amazon... I like the way she acknowledges the regional cuisine of India and a lot of those recipes are fairly authentic tasting (but she has made them a bit healthier IMO.)

robino · 06/04/2010 17:30

GetOrfMoiLand without wishing to appear like a crazed stalker (although I undoubtedly am ) - is it you who is fanatical about grinding spices? I remember reading a post by someone who mentioned it and was trying to remember who. If it is you and you have time, could I point you in this direction?

Sorry for the hijack - I also recommend 50 Curries of India, tis fab.

DarrellRivers · 06/04/2010 17:33

Anjum Anand's book is excellent
DH approves and he is v fussy about his food, very few things measure up to his mother's cooking, but I have had loads of success with Anjum's recipes
She also describes how to cook everything properly, very understandable, and yes, her recipes have evolved , they are quite modern, healthier
She cooked for a bit in San Francisco I think, and it shows, there is a freshness as well as an authenticity

tasmaniandevilchaser · 06/04/2010 17:38

I like Vicky Bhogal's first book, Cooking like Mummiji

DarrellRivers · 06/04/2010 17:41

Just returned to say 'Cooking like mummiji' but see TasmanianDevil has got there first
