Damn, I bought Turkey mince by mistake! What on earth can I do with it!

Obviously bought it on a bad day - I've just found it in the freezer. Must have thought it was beef mince.

But it isn't.

So what on earth do I do with turkey mince?

The same as normal mince! We've often used it as an alternative to normal beef mince, it works the same just doesnt taste the same! - it could be a bit watery too, so you may need to drain off during cooking

courtesy of aitch's blw blog
mix it with grated pear & cinnamon, roll into small sausage shapes & cook
healthy turkey twizzlers

we do turkey burgers... pretty much the same as beef ones really!

you could whizz up some breadcrumbs (ooh maybe with parmesan, parsley... ok drooling now) and cover the burgers in them so they're more like those yummy turkey dinosaurs

TBH you can do any of the beef recipes, it'll just taste 'lighter' IYSWIM. we have stuff like turkey cottage pie a fair bit - turkey is healthier anyway!

You are lucky. I can't get turkey mince for love nor money around here! You can do whatever you want with it, spag bowl, chilli or shepherds pie etc. Just as you would with beef mince. By the time you have added your spices and seasoning it doesn't really taste that different, much healthier though.

I once made some lovely turkey burgers from turkey mince. I can't find the recipe but basically it involved masses of herbs and spices and flavoury things to make up for the fact that turkey has no flavour at all.

MrsJamesMcAvoy · 18/03/2010 13:23

Meatballs. Home made tom sauce and patsta. Mine love this.

Mince, garlic, grated onion 1 egg and breadcrumbs or smashed up crackers (a la jamie oliver) herbs if you wish.

SPBInDisguise · 18/03/2010 13:23

tdh where are you?

We're meant to be having this tonight - hope it's nice!

Poledra · 18/03/2010 13:24

Make turkey burgers with it - there's a nice Anjun Anand recipe for indian chicken/turkey burgers my kids love (I go easy with the chillies though). Don't have time to google for you, as am in work.

meltedmarsbars · 18/03/2010 13:25

Goodness!

I didn't realise minced turkey was so popular!

I'm in Herts SPB. Within walking distance of a Waitrose and Tesco but they don't stock it. I did once buy some turkey mince from our local butcher to make some turkey burgers but it cost £20 so I won't be doing that again in a hurry!

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/03/2010 13:29

Thai Turkey Burgers are fab

CatIsSleepy · 18/03/2010 13:30

makes nice burgers and meatballs, or just make bolognese type sauce as you would with beef and use for lasagne or whatever

IndiMamaJones · 18/03/2010 13:32

Ooh, may have those burgers instead - they look nicer than the meatballs!

Whoamireally · 18/03/2010 13:33

I love the Annabel Karmel turkey fajitas which are in her Family recipe book - make them all the time, delicious!

SPBInDisguise · 18/03/2010 13:41

our tesco do iot - must be a northern thing

SPBInDisguise · 18/03/2010 13:42

maybe your waitrose do minced emu instead!

SolidGoldBrass · 18/03/2010 13:44

Mix with well-chopped onion and form into meatballs, chill in fridge for 30 mins. Then fry in a large frying pan with one or two red apples, sliced, add about half a pint of vegetable stock and three teaspoonfuls of onion chutney or onion marmalade, simmer for a bit (10-15 mins maybe) and serve with mash.
You can do that with pork mince as well.

brockleybelle · 18/03/2010 13:46

I make thai turkey burgers -

3 tbsp of red curry paste, a few spring onions chopped up, mixed into a standard sized pack of turkey mince. Shape into burgers, grill. Serve in toasted ciabatta rolls with mayo and mango chutney. Mmm mmm mmm.

AppleTreeWick · 18/03/2010 13:58

Adding some lemon zest to turkey meatballs works really nicely too

Hulababy · 18/03/2010 13:59

I am using turkey mince tomorrow evening for DH and DD's turkey and spring onion burgers.

MmeLindt · 18/03/2010 14:04

I made some Puffy Delights with turkey mince as a snack one time. They were delish.

Puff pastry, cut into squares. Fry the mince with chopped courgettes, drain fat then put a dollop in the middle of each pastry square, add some herbs, bit of cheese. Fold over the ends of the puff pastry, to make little envelopes/packages.

Bung in oven for 10 - 12 minutes or until brown. Serve with salad/coleslaw. Or beans and chips for the DC.

thedollshouse · 18/03/2010 14:30

SPD.

OmicronPersei8 · 18/03/2010 14:36

Turkey burgers - mix the mince with mint and chilli and a bit of salt. Very tasty.

CrankyTwanky · 18/03/2010 14:38

I'd use it as per beef mince, but add shed-loads of marmite to beef it up.

Everyone elses suggestions sound much better though! Espesh spicy burgers. Will try those.
Tis much healthier y'know?
