Lemoncello - what do I do with it?

I have an unopened bottle of this stuff here. What do I do with it?

Drink it neat?
Does it need some kind of mixer?
Can I cook with it?

I have never tasted it in my short sweet life!

Put it in the freezer and drink a shot of it as an after dinner drink

it is lovely

notnowbernard · 18/01/2010 12:15

Ooh it's lovely!

V v sweet though

Drink it as a liqueur

Or pour over ice-cream maybe?

meltedmarsbars · 18/01/2010 12:19

Is it some kind of sickly stuff then? Can I out it in a pudding?

Any recipes? (Should this be in "receipes" section?)

i only ever drink it

you could probably use it in puddings but it is very sticky and sweet with a hint of lemon

dinster · 18/01/2010 12:22

I (sort of) made some of this for Christmas presents and had some left over. Can recommend keeping it in the freezer and dribbling some over lemon sorbet. Hic!

BelleDameSansMerci · 18/01/2010 12:24

Yep, Nigella Lawson's Anglo Italian trifle is delicious! I made it for Christmas Day. It does need eating quite quickly or it becomes very alcoholic tasting. I bought Limoncello specifically for the trifle.

here

It's delicious... I replaced the blackberries with frozen summer fruits as blackberries not exactly seasonal in December!

meltedmarsbars · 18/01/2010 12:26

Dinster - you made it !?!

To be drunk in shot glasses at the end of a good night out!

jennifersofia · 18/01/2010 12:36

Add it to the syrup that gets drizzled over Mars' lemon drizzle cake of course!

Hulababy · 18/01/2010 12:47

Keep in freezer; drink as liquor

StirlingInDaSnowDrift · 18/01/2010 19:01

I use it in Nigellas Anglo Italian Trifle too - it is yummy.

If you just whisk a few spoonfuls into some mascarpone it is lovely over fruit.

I have had my bottle for a couple of years - it takes forever to use.

MummyDoIt · 18/01/2010 19:04

You can add lemonade or soda water to make it a long drink.

MollyRoger · 18/01/2010 19:07

Drink!
DRINK!
DRINK!
DRRRRRIIIINK!

But never, ever. Ever. And I cannot stress this enough. Ever. Ever. Drink it after a big night out because your friends have come home with you and you have no other alcohol in the house.
unless you wish to look like this

or, yeah, you could just put in in trifle or something. yeah. Probab;ly best just do that.

AgentProvocateur · 18/01/2010 20:00

Mix it with vodka and beaten up egg whites and have a sorbetto.

And to add to MollyRoger's dire warning, do not knock the bottle onto the floor as you run to the loo to be because it is the stickiest liquid in the world and the stain never comes out your carpet.

nigglewiggle · 18/01/2010 20:03

I'm making some at the moment, so I'm watching this thread with interest. Just put the zest of lemons into vodka to infuse for a few days, then I think I make a syrup and mix. Doesn't seem too tricky.

Funnily enough, I made a kind of lemon cordial with all the left-over juice. I decided to stir some into my gin and tonic and it was a lovely gin and bitter lemon!

hatwoman · 18/01/2010 22:08

drinbk it neat and very cold after a meal. pretend you are in tuscany.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/01/2010 22:10

drink it neat and ONLY ice cold.

if it is cheap shite it will be very very very sweet and rank.

if it is nice stuff, it will smell of lemon peel as soon as you open it and although it will still be sweet it won't be too sweet!

i would definitely consider saving it for summer though...or at least a sunny day!

meltedmarsbars · 19/01/2010 11:04

Right, will put it back in the cupboard until sunnier weather!

Thank you all!
