Smoked salmon or gravadlax with brown bread and butter.

Or pate and toast (I love fois gras and walnut bread but that is a social faux pas nowadays)

Once I had an amazing celery and stilton soup in a posh London restaurant but would probably be hard to create with no recipe

Soup. I love soup! If it's really nice soup, of course.

And I love the selection of little bits and pieces that my favourite local Thai restaurant does as a starter. Yum.

nikki1978 · 29/12/2009 18:14

Ooh I also had a caramalised onion and goats cheese puff pastry tart once - was awesome.

Sorry I am a big starter fan

Chicken livers that have just been cooked whole with some crispy pancetta, on a little salad of baby spinach dressed with balsamic vinegar.

They must be fresh, not frozen, chicken livers.

Soup

Pate with toast and caramelised onion

Big green olives served with a crisp glass of Kiwi Sauvignon - nice and simple. Also ciabatta with balsamic and olive oil dip.

If I'm cooking, I like starters that are no fuss at all - eg a salad with balsamic glazed shallots or just a few plates of pickies.

If I'm not cooking, I like a tiny caramelised onion tart and salad, or nice soup, or just another salad of some sort. And I like bread....lots of bread....soda bread....brown bread cut really thinly....nice brown rolls....more bread...but then I am too full up to eat my main course.

Twice baked goats cheese suffles [sp] with a balsamic dressing.

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 18:17

Some really good fresh pasta in sage butter, with some really good fresh parmesan on top...

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 18:18

Smoked eel with horseradish and pain poilâne (très chic and easy peasy)

slng · 29/12/2009 18:19

Oysters.

Spicy grilled baby octopus.

brimfull · 29/12/2009 18:21

Picante · 29/12/2009 18:22

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 18:23
