(nearly typed [hgreen] myself!) looks a bit like the Wicked Witch of the West ...

Bibitty, know what you mean. Ah, the days of posh lunches in town ... especially if they were work ones, where you'd occasionally oh whoops just not go back to the office. I remember the Wolseley fondly!

Second that, and the Ivy. And Alistair Little or Andrew Edmunds, both lovely. Andrew Edmunds very cosy, divine food. And there's always the Oxo Tower ...

I don't know, but lucky you, and I hope you really enjoy it

ConstantlyWritingThankYouCards · 20/10/2009 19:59

Andrew Edmunds is lovely.

Marcus Waering at the Berkely was fab. £35 pounds a head turned into 120 for 2 for lunch with 2 glasses of champagne, 3 of wine and coffee. Very sedate though, if you want a buzz i'd suggest elsewhere. Their afternoon tea at the time was amazing, I just saw it on my way to the toilets but wow!!! also £35

almondfinger · 20/10/2009 20:24

Andrew Edmunds was lovely and cosy.

A friend went to Texture today and was v impressed.

SugarSkyHigh · 20/10/2009 20:32

how about Sketch?

stealthsquiggle · 20/10/2009 20:33

, almondfinger.

I am so desperate for my DM to get free of other hassles in her life so that I feel able to ask her to cover for us while DH and I sneak off for lunch chez Marcus W...

Gah, another face.

I used to lunch often in Joe Allen's and Rules and now I'm a skint Glasgow WAHM.

I have found people watching to be great fun at the Ivy, but struggled to find something I wanted to order off the menu. Not a place you go for the food, imo.

MadameDefarge · 21/10/2009 11:49

Oh, I miss my expense account days too....Orso, The Ivy, Le Caprice, Rules, Andrew Edmunds...ah, happy days!

mumof2222222222222222boys · 21/10/2009 12:08

check out last minute.com.

we are going to the Boxwood Cafe for £25 (3 course) dinner tomorrow. Lots of offers on at different restaurants, esp for lunch.

MadameDefarge · 21/10/2009 13:15

Has anyone mentioned using Toptable? often get good discounts by booking through them...

LyraSilvertongue · 21/10/2009 16:50

We've got a table at The Ivy. So I shouldn't expect too much from the food?

Sunshinemummified · 21/10/2009 17:05

I think the food is quite nice at The Ivy - the comfort food is great, but I prefer Sheekey's of the same group.

If it was me I'd go for Arbutus or Wild Honey.

sickofsocalledexperts · 21/10/2009 17:11

OMG Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley was the best food I have EVER had the other day, and the best service too. Tricky to get into, but if you go early or late (we did 6pm weekday dinner) it's easier to get a table.

stealthsquiggle · 21/10/2009 21:51

sickof - my determination to pull this one off is growing by the minute (glossing over the fact that we live 3 hours from London and DH and I are struggling to be here at the same time at all ATM and are passing DC and associated junk like relay batons )

Monkeygirl69 · 21/10/2009 21:57

Locanda Locatelli is a favourite. Really relaxed, brilliant service and surpisingly reasonably priced. Oh and the food's excellent. It's also near Selfridges so you could do a bit of pre/post lunch shopping.

mumof2222222222222222boys · 22/10/2009 08:55

Arbutus and Wild Honey are both good, although I think I prefer Arbutus.

TwoSilverBalloons · 22/10/2009 09:20

The food at The Ivy is good, just more basic than at say, Marcus Wareing. The Shepherd's Pie and cauliflower cheese is ah-may-zing.

Enjoy!

LyraSilvertongue · 22/10/2009 18:53

Had lunch at The Ivy in the end. Twas very nice. I had seared scallops with bacon (the best bacon I've ever tasted), followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
Only spotted one sleb - Trisha Goddard and (I presume) her daughter.
