My DH is genuinely trying to convince me it is a healthy bablanced breakfast that will be great for helping our 2nd centile DD put on a few extra ounces!

Not sure if he is brainwashed by advertising or just very very hopeful.

pasturesnew · 19/09/2009 22:15

Yes to nutella. No to chocolate spread. Very much yes to nutella and peanut butter together on toast.

pasturesnew · 19/09/2009 22:16

Ooh or nutella on toast with banana slices - that is right healthy surely?

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2009 22:16

Oh Nutella is yummy. Here in Italy it is a staple food.

TeamEdwardTango · 19/09/2009 22:17

I've not seen it in Sainsbugs, but our "little shop", a Nisa I think, stock it. 'Tis very yum!

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2009 22:18

Pushme, the paediatrician assured me that a slice of toast with Nutella and orange juice was a perfectly balanced breakfast for dd.
Again, the paed might be paid by Ferrero to say so

ingles2 · 19/09/2009 22:29

Had to google the chocolate spread.
Am pleased to report Ocado do it

pushmepullyou · 19/09/2009 23:45

franca, I've passed that info on to DH. He is thrilled!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 20/09/2009 00:06

You can get a lovely one in Tesco which is basically a mix of white and dark chocolate. Tis yummy.
DD loves chocolate spread on crumpets for breakfast

overmydeadbody · 20/09/2009 00:09

overmydeadbody · 20/09/2009 00:10

Monkeytrews · 20/09/2009 00:18

Put cucumber on the side if your worried

Monkeytrews · 20/09/2009 00:19

asda do a good generic nut and choc spread

also do organic peanut butter

and generic marmite that's better than the real thing.

I don't miss Tescos

ABetaDad · 20/09/2009 01:41

YES. Its the only thing DS1 will eat on toast. We limit him to 3 times a week.

teamcullen · 20/09/2009 01:49

i give the Dcs nutella on rice cakes in their healthy packed lunch boxes. They are not allowed chocolate biscuits

thumbwitch · 20/09/2009 01:57

I miss Tesco Fairtrade organic chocolate spread - better than Nutella. Better than G&B, surprisingly (in terms of cocoa content and sugar content).

I have just had to buy Coles' own brand here in Australia because it has less sugar in it than Nutella (Coles' is Belgian import)

DS has been having it for ages (he's now 21mo) and loves it. The nut = good protein, so am happy for him to have it in moderation

I love it too, especially on hot buttery toast - yum!

Geocentric · 20/09/2009 03:36

Mmmm, Nutella on warm toast, all melty and yummy! DD likes it on a spoon, DS and I on toast, DH avoids it like the plague.

I have memories of chocolate spread on crumpets when I was a child - about 30 yrs ago - anyone know if Nutella was available in the UK or was it something else???? (We can't get crumpets over here - the DCs don't know what they're missing).

PandaEis · 20/09/2009 03:45

aldi do a GORGEOUS white choc spread i eat that with a spoon sod the toast nutella is food of the gods

thumbwitch · 20/09/2009 03:49

OH yes, nutella was around then Geo, but so was an alternative called Nutch, which I actually preferred and the glass jar it came in could be used afterwards as a drinking glass. My parents have many.

Geocentric · 20/09/2009 03:54

It may have been that then, TW...
Nutella do a drinking glass over here, we have maaaaannnyyy!!!!

RobynLou · 20/09/2009 04:07

i remember having snickers spread a few years ago - crunchy peanut butter and choc spread swirled together in the jar - mmmmmmmmmmmmm
nutella is YUM

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 20/09/2009 06:24

What happened to Snickers Spread? That was divine from the jar, big swirls of caramel.

MaryAmericanSmooth · 20/09/2009 08:54

I have a full set of Nutella glasses in my cupboard !! (a bit as I'm the only one in the house who likes it)

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 20/09/2009 09:35

breadsticks ladies!! Right into the jar, mmmmmm

And, yes to nutella on toast for kids' breakfast...not loads, and not everyday, but ffs if they can have jam then surely?!
