What did your child have for tea today?

My dd1 is 3 and a half and tonight she had sausages, couscous, carrots and broccoli (all half eaten!) then a Munch Bunch fromage frais for pudding. She drank diluted apple juice.

I would love to know what other children of any age have for their tea - just out of nosiness and also to get some more ideas!

Thanks!

Um... ds is 2

WedgiesMum · 19/05/2003 21:49

OK I'll front up we had Macdonalds tonight... burger meal for DS (age 4) and chps for DD (age2), with vanilla milkshake and Fruit shoot to drink, respectively. But in my defence I did give them lentil, carrot and potato hash with cheese for lunch, DS only drinks dilute apple juice at home at the moment and DD drinks very very dilute toothkind blackcurrant......

mammya · 19/05/2003 22:12

dd aged 2.3 had cucumber then couscous with (tinned) sardines in tomato sauce followed by apple and pear compote and 1 biscuit. Later, after bath and bedtime, when supposed to be sleeping, was screaming "Mummy I'm REALLY hungry! I'm starving!" so had 3/4 banana. I was wondering actually if I was feeding her enough as it's not the first time she does it but comparing with what you all say it seems OK. Maybe just a ploy to get out of bed?

griffy · 19/05/2003 22:20

DS had caulifower cheese with broccoli and ham, with bread & butter followed by two Bob the Builder fairy cakes (made this evening).

whymummy · 19/05/2003 22:36

ds (14 months) had bread & butter, veg lasagne (ratatoulli & pesto instead of meat sauce with butterbeans & mushrooms in the cheesy sections) which was Saturday tea's leftovers reheated, then fruit with (bought)Cocoa & Vanilla mouse. He made happy noises all the way through but then he's generally a good eater.

IDismyname · 19/05/2003 22:59

Edam cheese sandwich, Kiwi fruit and a cold sausage. He has a proper lunch at school...

chatee · 19/05/2003 23:08

O M G!!!!
BAD MOTHER WARNING
my dd had smiley faces, fish fingers and peas followed by a peach and then a jelly and had apple juice to drink
ps:just thought i should have changed my name before admitting the above but she did eat the whole lot up!

Gilli · 19/05/2003 23:12

Mammya - you might not be feeding quite enough as tea doesn't sound all that filling - how does it compare to usual?

Zoe · 19/05/2003 23:16

DS (21 months) had chorizo , cherry tomatoes and a peach watching Cbeebies, but he had had ravioli for tea at nursery so it was a supper really.

If he had been at home, well, I have realised that my Annabel Karmel skills have disappeared somewhat and he is a bit of a fishfinger/sausage/chicken boy, so am going to try some new recipes this week...

mammya · 19/05/2003 23:50

Gill, there was quite a lot of couscous, plus a whole tin of sardines (contained 3 big sardines), plus a whole small cucumber (about 1/3 of a regular size cucumber). And water to drink, I forgot. I would have thought it was quite filling, especially the couscous and sardines. Do you really think it's not enough? Sometimes she eats a lot more but it really depends how hungry she is, normally she tells me if she wants more and she didn't tonight. Often she'll have fish fingers and peas/sweetcorn with pasta or rice, plus salad stuff and fruit.

Well, I had a miracle in our house at tea-time last night. After about 2 weeks or wasted dinners from DS1 (4) and DS2 (23 months) they both ate every single bit of the Spag Bol I coooked for them.
I nearly fell over when DS1 gave me his empty bowl, I wonder if they'd mind having that for dinner everynight!

batey · 20/05/2003 07:52

Mine had (2dds 3 and 5)sticky rice, seaweed and chicken with water, followed by mandarin segments.

Tonight, the infamous (in our house) bacon pasta!

dottyparker · 20/05/2003 09:00

beef & tomato pot noodle and rice pudding for desert

dottyparker · 20/05/2003 09:02

i dont think fish fingers and peas constitutes a bad mother, my goodness if we all cooked rom scratch the supermarkets would go out of business

Claireandrich · 20/05/2003 09:27

Ravioli from a tin! She hasn't been well for 12 days following a nasty reaction from her MMr jab and also hasn't eaten since then properly at all. Normally getting anything down her has been a struggle. This is the only thing she has accepted in days. She also had a bit of fruit - pineapple, melon and grapes later too. Hopefully she is on the mend!

Normally she eats really well and enjoys her food. Tea is normally sandwiches and fruit, beans on toast, type of thing. Lunch is her main meal. Water or juice to wash it down with.

iota · 20/05/2003 09:39

DS1 aged 4 had pitta, tarasamalata, hummus and walls balls.
DS2 has veg risotto rice and sliced ham.
We had risotto rice, fillet steak and salad. Both kids eat at nursey and usually eat well, but DS1 refuses most stuff at home even if he eats it at nursery. DS2 will give most things a go, but spat the fillet steak out.
When do kids start to appreciate good food?

mmm · 20/05/2003 09:42

pasta of course - why? is there anything else?

GillW · 20/05/2003 10:09

DS (20 months) has his tea at nursery - usually sandwiches, fruit and maybe cake if it's someone's birthday. Then he'll have supper with us which is more of a main meal - last night it was pasta, pesto, chicken and peas, with water as a drink, then yoghurt.

Pasta's pretty well a staple in our house - probably 1 day in 3 in one form or another. Typically we'd only do potatoes about once or twice a week, with rice, noodles or couscous on the other days.

Fortunately ds has quite eclectic tastes - chilli is one of his favourites, and he's happy with things like curry, sweet&sour, etc, so he mostly just has the same as we do and we haven't needed to go down the "kids food" route. If you think about it Chicken Kiev is only the grown up equivalent of chicken nuggets though

debster · 20/05/2003 10:43

Ds (4y) had steak, real chips and mushrooms with me and dp followed by a fromage frais. Dd (8m) had lentil dhal. Today's meal will be fish pie for all 4 of us. I love it when we all eat the same food. Sooo much easier!

JanZ · 20/05/2003 10:57

Gosh, I'm impressed. All these proper meals. Ds (2 1/2) just has some raisins, a cracker and cheese and a yoghurt/fromage frais (or two). I've given up trying to get him to eat what we're eating - he'll have his "yokka" at the table with us while we're eating our food - although he did enjoy the spag bol we had last week!

He used to be a good eater - all sorts of healthy, Annabel Karmel type stuff, but now he'll have none of it.

I believe that he does eat well at the child minders, but he's gone off veg and fruit at home (with the expection of "weeties" - raisins, plus he gets apple and orange juice). I've even tried "banana chips" and dried apples, but to no effect.

Still - he only rarely gets "treats" such as chocolate (Smarties, or the Easter eggs that we're still rationing out) or crisps - although he is learning to be cute when he asks for them, with an extra special "Peeeeeese!!!"

doormat · 20/05/2003 11:03

Southern fried chicken, real chips and peas.
Fromage4 frais for pudd.

shelleyb · 20/05/2003 11:09

Ds1 and Ds2 have both had a stomach bug the last couple of days so had 2 rich tea biscuits each plus a handful of dried shreddies. In front of the telly too which is usually a complete no-no.
