Help, have halloumi stockpile...

Any suggestions? I seem to have accidentally bought several halloumis as storecupboard staple but don't really know what to do with them. I only know an ancient Delia Smith recipe with coriander and garlic which is nice but not that nice.

Grilled hallomi sandwich is devine but not very healthy. Saw a recipe the other day that was grilled veg and couscous with grilled halloumi on the top.

twoluvlykids · 17/06/2009 21:16

I had it once with a green salad, it was thickly sliced and quickly fried (Not healthy but delish).

It can be a bit rubbery if overcooked.

BennyAndJoon · 17/06/2009 21:16

Could you post them to me as DH will just grill them and eat them until I make him stop

(I realise this is not helpful)

snickersnack · 17/06/2009 21:18

Grill and serve with sweet chilli sauce.

sweetkitty · 17/06/2009 21:19

Grilled with black olie tapenade is divine (drools)

sweetkitty · 17/06/2009 21:20

Yurtgirl · 17/06/2009 21:21

Um can I ask what halloumis is?!?! I have no idea!

hairtwiddler · 17/06/2009 21:28

ah yes, found it

serenity · 17/06/2009 21:30

Lovely greek cheese yurtgirl nomnomnom

Grilled, with a quick squeeze of lemon - lovely

Breakfast food when I'm feeling decidedly unhealthy; bacon, fried egg and grilled halloumi.

LupusinaLlamasuit · 17/06/2009 21:31

My favourite ever pasta:

grilled halloumi cubes
pasta
coriander pesto (v important: not basil pesto)
baby broad beans

If you want a bit of oomph, chuck in some chopped Peppardew sweet chili peppers also.

delicious

theDreadPirateRoberts · 17/06/2009 21:31

Mmmm, squeaky teeth cheese, nom nom nom...

Cube some and bung it in risotto with some rosemary?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/06/2009 21:32

Do a spinachy pasta with fried halloumi cubes sprinkled on top

halloumi and vegetable kebabs (marinate halloumi in oil, lemon, garlic, mint and spring onion, then put on skewers with cherry toms, cubes of bread and ribbons of courgette folded up)

fry in cubes and have in pitta breads with salad or grilled veg

McDreamy · 17/06/2009 21:32

squeaky cheese yurtgirl

LupusinaLlamasuit · 17/06/2009 21:34

it is food of the (very bad) Greek gods, being entirely mostly fat and salt.

For this reason, kids love it as do I

LupusinaLlamasuit · 17/06/2009 21:35

and sorry but I thought being a yurtgirl meant you would be fully qualified in weird cheeses?

Ceebee74 · 17/06/2009 21:35

Another Nigella recipe is finely chop a red chilli and mix it with olive oil. Grill the cheese in slices then drizzle the chilli/oil over the top and then squeeze some lemon juice over - it is VERY simple and VERY VERY nice!!!

Yurtgirl · 17/06/2009 21:37

Its chesse I had no idea
Lapis - do you own a lama suit?

ingles2 · 17/06/2009 21:38

oh I love squeaky cheese... that sound when you chew it gives me so much pleasure
my boys love it in wraps with greek salad and couscous

Noonki · 17/06/2009 21:38

prawn and halloumi curry.

find a prawn curry reciepe and add lightly grilled halloumi

heaven

Yurtgirl · 17/06/2009 21:38

FWIW Id be very surprised if our local tescos sell it
Thankyou for enlightening me one and all

McDreamy · 17/06/2009 21:39

I bet they do! It's great on the bbq too!

tigerdriver · 17/06/2009 21:40

Hey great ideas here, thanks, I like the Nigella bake (we have a few of her cookbooks kicking around, but they belong to DH and he doesn't like getting his books mucky so I don't use them...)

I also like the idea of kebabs and the chilli/olive oil one.

Thanks for all these.

I had halloumi chilli and orange salad last night.

Fry some garlic and chilli, cut an orange into skinned segments and put on dressed leaves/tomatoes/red onion then fry halloumi in chilli oil and pour the lot onto salad and have with large glass of white wine.

Also nice stuffed into a pitta if you're really hungry, and you can replace the orange with pomegranate seeds.

Guadalupe · 17/06/2009 21:43

Not very low fat though!

Fried cheese. Mmm.

tigerdriver · 17/06/2009 21:53

Good job I've eaten tonight or I'd be experimenting with a hot pan right now. I might try one of these out tomorrow, I can stretch to garlic, chilli, organges and salad, and might be persuaded to a nice big modest glass of wine
