i get my dd's a happy meal as a treat sometimes and have believed the statements they put out about quality meat, but my friend just told me that the main competitors for dog and cat food beef is mcdonalds! is this true?

OP posts:
EyeballshasManBoobs · 12/06/2009 18:06

I don't doubt it's not good for you but I'd also be very surprised if these stories are true. They wouldn't be allowed to get away with that.

ruddynorah · 12/06/2009 18:08

their website says they only use 100% prime beef cuts from the forequarter and flank of the cow. so does that mean it will be slurry or not?

LadyOfWaffle · 12/06/2009 18:08

Anyone else hungry now?

LadyOfWaffle · 12/06/2009 18:10

Well, they could mush up the prime cuts

ruddynorah · 12/06/2009 18:11

anyone?

StirlingTheStrong · 12/06/2009 18:15

I see you are all trying to ignore my last post!

If they say they are using 100% beef - they will be checked by some governing body (trading standards etc) and if they are using mechanically reclaimed meat then they would be made to stop advertising the 100% beef boast.

ruddynorah · 12/06/2009 18:21

do they though? i mean 100% beef..that can be mechanically recovered, just means it's not a bit of pork too doesn't it?

Ivykaty44 · 12/06/2009 18:23

flank is the large muscle going across the belly - it is the least tender cut you can get and you need moister plus cut the muscle across when cooking to try and make it more palitable. Forequater isn't really a good beef cut either.

Who wouldn't be allowed to get away with what? Do you mean mcdonalds wouldn't allow the stories or mcdonalds wouldn't be allowed to get always with serving slurry type meat as burgers?

oodlesofpoodles · 12/06/2009 18:28

mechanically reclaimed meat has to be labelled as 'mechanically seperated' in the ingredients. To label it as 100% beef without mentioning that it is mechanically reclaimed meat would be illegal.

Itsjustafleshwound · 12/06/2009 18:28

What about all the flavourants and additives they put into their food? And something like MSG can make ANYTHING taste good...

The meat used is reclaimed ..

If you want a comprehensive understanding of the fast food industry you cannot go far wrong by reading Fast Food Nation ...

Winehouse · 12/06/2009 18:33

I took my dds there in desperation the oter night. They had filet of fish with fries. They both said how foul it was. Fries too salty and fish in thick breaded coating with slimy mayo, all inside a bun made of bath sponge.

I don't care what %age of top quality meat they use - it all tastes like crap when they've done with it.

HeadFairy · 12/06/2009 18:34

Arguments about whether they taste ok or not, don't pet food manufacturers here have to buy meat that's safe for human consumption, so I can well believe that McD are competing with some of the high end pet food manufacturers for meat.

thirdname · 12/06/2009 18:39

salty even without putting the salt on it before? I don't use any salt in my cooking ever, but didn't think the fries were too salty?

Seona1973 · 12/06/2009 18:39

They say the burgers are 100% beef with salt/pepper added as seasoning and they use only chicken breast in the nuggets, chicken burgers, etc. They would surely have to say if it was mechanically removed meat

Seona1973 · 12/06/2009 18:43

p.s. I like the chicken legend with salsa

HeadFairy · 12/06/2009 18:48

surely mechanically recovered meat is still meat so they can say it's 100% meat, or do they actually have to say mechanically recovered meat?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/06/2009 18:53

They have to say mechanically recovered meat.

navyeyelasH · 12/06/2009 18:58

No binders, no fillers, no additives - just 100% juicy beef made from whole cuts of forequarter and flank that are great for taste and flavour.

Portofino · 12/06/2009 19:04

So they use the cheaper cuts, but it is still 100% meat?

It's NOT mechanically recovered meat.

It's quite unfair to libel McDonalds in this way. There is nothing wrong with their food. Compare your average burger van with McDonalds, you're FAR better off with McDonalds - less fat and fewercalories because of all the health freaks harping on about McDonalds being unhealthy, and better quality meat.

McDonalds respond here:

www.makeupyourownmind.co.uk/questions/whats-in-the-food/burgers/index5.html?q=3064#question10

Some of the questions are quite funny:

  1. Is it true that when you take the top part of the burger bun off a burger a big hand from the burger pulls you into the burger?

No, this is not true. McDonald's Hamburgers are made from 100 per cent beef. (Jan 08)

  1. Have you ever considered bringing out a swan burger? And if so, what stopped such a thing from happening?

No. McDonald?s burgers have primarily been made from beef. The only exceptions to this rule are the pork, chicken, fish and vegetarian food items. (Dec 2008)

  1. is it true that some woman got facial herpies after eating at a mcdonalds resturant either in the u.k or abroad??? what precautions does mcdonalds take to prevent staff from ejaculating on food products?? reply asap because i wnat to eat tonight

Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all. No, this is not true. McDonald's food contains nothing that should make a healthy person ill or feel sick in any way, unless you have allergies to certain foods.

  1. Is it true that you make burgers in the back by taking a dump in a bun sometimes? I heard you do that when you're mad at a customer.

Absolutely not. All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef. Nothing else. Just 100 percent beef, made from whole cuts of forequarter and flank (similar to the mince you'd buy in the supermarket). All that?s added is a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking.

  1. Hi, recently I discovered that the meat of a camel is also refered to as beef, after browsing the answers to a few questions i was only able to discover that you state the meat of your burgers is from a flank of beef, camels have flanks too... Is it possible that the beef you use contains camel meat ir is it only cow meat.

The beef used in McDonald's burgers is sourced from cattle within the UK and Ireland specifically reared for (cow) beef production and can be from pure breeds and a combination of cross breeds. This could also include a cross bred Friesian or Holstein.

  1. I've heard your burgers are made from poor people that populate the third world countries. Why not choose people from the over populated china instead?

No, All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef, nothing else just 100 percent beef, prepared from whole cuts of forequarter and flank (similar to the mince you'd buy in the supermarket). All that's added is a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking.

  1. i have a dutch friend who is very tall and bald. he says it's because of the growth hormones in the cows that mcdonalds holland use. do english mcdonalds cows have the same hormones? also, when you say your burgers have 100% beef does that include teeth?

Cattle are herbivores and will happily eat plant material which is digestible. The Farmers and suppliers that work with McDonald's do not feed their animals on diets which make them ill. Cattle feed diets can range from grass and straw, to a variety of cereals, maize and root crops. Further, antibiotic growth promoters or hormones are also strictly forbidden by the requirements of McDonald?s Agriculture Assurance Programme (MAAP). You can get an inside view and more information by viewing or reading one of the reports by the Quality Scouts that have visited some of the farms and suppliers that McDonald's work with. Just click on the 'Quality Scouts' link on this site to find out more. You can also be happy in knowing there are no teeth in McDonald's beef patties. (May 2008)

Q I heard that the average burger has 3% of sweat in it, is this a tollerable level?

A No, there is no sweat in McDonald's burgers. Visit www.mcdonalds.co.uk and click on the 'Eat Smart' section for a full ingredients list of any McDonald's menu item, or you could also look at the Quality Scout section of this site to see various reports from right across the burger making process. (August 2007)

Q76. Is it true that you use pimple jucie in your Burgers?

A No, this is not true. A breakdown of the ingredients for every McDonald's food item is available for download in the 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk, and on the back of tray liners in restaurants. (September 2007)

Q83. Is there really poo in the burgers.

ANo this is not true. You can rest assured that McDonald's hamburgers are made from 100 percent beef and nothing else. (November 2007)

Q84. Is it true that you use semean to hold the burger together?

A No. McDonald's burgers are formed from 100 percent beef (no additives, no preservatives) and frozen into individual burger patties before it's supplied to our restaurants.

Q85. Is it true that McDonalds use dogs to make their Hamburgers, my teacher says so.
A No, this is not true. All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef. Nothing else.

Q87. Has there ever been seal meat in mcdonalds products?
ANo. (November 2007)

Q93. Do u put chickens heads or cows teeth in ur food cuz ive seen pictures and its disgusting!?

A No. To find out exactly what ingredients are in each McDonald's menu item, use the 'Ingredients List' which is in the 'Eat Smart' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

  1. Last time i had a Mac Donald's, I found it so discussing I vomited. I read here you only use 100% beef. You can tell me its 100% beef as much as you like, but, bleeeeekk! (sound of me being sick). so why does it taste so horrible that it induces me to vomit? or could it be some of the ingredients in the slimy greasy bun?

A Sorry to hear that you feel this way. McDonald's food contains nothing that should make a healthy person ill or feel sick in any way, unless you have allergies to certain foods. All ingredients that are used are similar to those you would buy in the supermarket or use at home.

q100. i have read in papers that a staff take a poo in the food and watch people eat it then go to there face and laugh is this true

a This is completely unfounded. McDonald's is unsure which papers have been reporting this, and would like to see the source if you still have a copy. Please contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244622 with any details. (September 2007)

q why do your burgers taste so bad? do you use the maure salvaged from the farms to add a certain aroma??

McDonald's is sorry to hear that you don't find the burgers tasty. All McDonald's hamburgers are made from beef. Nothing else. Just 100 percent beef, from whole cuts of forequarter and flank (similar to the mince you'd buy in the supermarket). All that's added is a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking for seasoning. However, if you are not happy with your meal, in any way, please contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244622 so they can take the details of your complaints and investigate the issue on your behalf.

  1. are your baconburgers kosher?

A. It sounds like you may be referring to the Bacon Cheeseburger. This item is not Kosher for two reasons, firstly the Torah classifies pork as unacceptable to eat, and secondly the rules of Kashrut say that meat may not be eaten in conjunction with diary products such as cheese.

  1. are your burgers made in any part by cows eye sockets?

No. All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef. Nothing else. Just 100 percent beef, made from whole cuts of forequarter and flank (similar to the mince you'd buy in the supermarket). All that's added is a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking.

  1. I heard that your burge meat is taken from from the vagina of cows. Can you confirm 100% that this is not true?

McDonald's only uses whole cuts of forequarter and flank of 100 percent beef.

  1. Would you be able to make a burger for babies. i would be interested if you could make a burger made from baby food? I am 14 but my teeth have not properly developed so a soft burger would be nice. Thank Robert Rothon

McDonald?s is a family restaurant where its food is intended to be enjoyed by everyone. However, although sorry to hear about your teeth difficulties, the company has no plans to produce any baby food products. (February 2007)

  1. I've heard that meat for your burger is made up of cows brains, testicals and penis. Can you confirm this is 100% true?

No, McDonald's can't confirm this as true, because it isn't.

  1. Have the dimesions of your burgers remained the same since the product lines began? Its just that when I was about 10 years old, I thought the Big Mac really was huge, now its tiny. I find I have to go to Burger King or Wendy's to find a burger that satisfies me.

No, the dimensions have not changed. The Big Mac is the same size it has always been.

  1. I used to think your burgers were horrible, believing they were all mashed chicken head. I've only found out recently that it isn't. Is there any other way to get this good message to other people like me?

McDonald?s, through the use of this website, is trying to dispel myths and inform customers about its food and business. There will be a number of initiatives coming up over the next few months, including live webchats with McDonald?s senior management, plus restaurant visits to look behind the scenes.

  1. what part of the cow do you use in the burgers cos i heard it was the teeth.

All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef. Nothing else. Just 100 percent beef, made from whole cuts of forequarter and flank (the same as a good mince you'd buy in the supermarket). All McDonald's adds is a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking.

  1. are the mc donalds burgers 3% chickens feat

All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef

You'll be happy to know that none of these things are ingredients in McDonald's Milkshakes.

  1. hello again its us, were back. more stuff we heard was in the mcdonalds milkshakes:chicken fat, potato and algae. is this true? if so you will be loosing your best customer. well no thats a lie, i like your burgers. byebyex

QuintessentialShadow · 13/06/2009 01:29

Oh, I sort of miss a quarter pounder with cheese meal. Not had one in nearly 2 years.

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 13/06/2009 01:50

My first reaction to the OP was...acDonalds is not a treat, it's poison IMO. EUW!

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 13/06/2009 01:51
