Always make my own as they're so easy to do. IMO ready-made are plappy and don't taste of anything.

diedandgonetodevon · 02/06/2009 12:31

Far too easy to make to want to buy a tasteless ready made one IMO.

SheherazadetheGoat · 02/06/2009 12:32

make my own

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 02/06/2009 12:34

DH makes them

jumpingbeans · 02/06/2009 12:34

Make my own, I love them warm from the oven, if fact in our house, i don't think one has ever got cold whole

HaventSleptForAYear · 02/06/2009 12:35

We (DH is the specialist) make our own.

Used to buy ready-made pastry until we realised how easy it is to make pastry.

ThePellyandMe · 02/06/2009 12:35

I make my own. So much nicer.

Overmydeadbody · 02/06/2009 12:35

See, that's what I thought. I have never bought a ready-made quishe and it wouldn't cross my mind to as they are so easy to make. But a friend of mine today said "I've never even thought to make my own quiche OMDB, you'll have to give me your recipe!" when I mentioned that we where having it for supper tonight and she asked me where I get mine from

I have written out a basic recipe for her with ideas for different fillings.

princessmel · 02/06/2009 12:41

Do you buy the pastry? Is it shortcrust?

And do you mix the eggs and cream?

I have no idea.

brimfull · 02/06/2009 12:41

dh makes them here too

much niced than shop bought

EyeballsintheSky · 02/06/2009 12:42

Eggs, cream, nutmeg in a pastry case? Isn't that a custard tart?

SheherazadetheGoat · 02/06/2009 12:43

you are thinking of vanilla.

SheherazadetheGoat · 02/06/2009 12:44

you will never buy a 'quiche' again

HaventSleptForAYear · 02/06/2009 12:45

Half a pot of crème fraiche, 2 or 3 eggs mixed up together with a bit of salt and pepper.

Put some filling (cooked bacon & mushrooms, or we like goat's cheese and salmon and broccoli) onto the pastry.

Pour the cream mixture on top.

Put in oven til it looks cooked (20 mins?)

You could put some parmesan on top if you wanted.

princessmel · 02/06/2009 12:46

Could I do that, but buy the pastry??

SheherazadetheGoat · 02/06/2009 12:47

yes you can buy the pastry. it is a piece of piss though if you have a food processor.

princessmel · 02/06/2009 12:48

I don't have one. I could cope with rolling out and filling though. Deffo.

choppychopster · 02/06/2009 12:50

Yum! Think I am going to make a quiche for supper tonight!

I am rubbish at pasty, so often buy ready made, but do my own filling.

Also buy them from the local deli which is lush, but supermarket ones are always soggy and bland.

meltedmarsbars · 02/06/2009 12:50

Get your pastry case (home-made or bought)

Fry chopped bacon in pan
add chopped onion, fry till soft,
add handful spinach, cook couple mins till wilted.
Take pan off heat

Grate large chunk cheddar.

Whisk 3 or 4 eggs and a splosh of cream with a fork. Add ground pepper and lots of whatever herbs you like - fresh or dry.

Put bacon/onion/spinach mix into pastry case.
Add egg/cream mix.
plonk cheese on top. Grind pepper over it all.

put in oven till top is browning nicely.

Enjoy with new potatoes, salad and a glass of wine.

MachuPicchu · 02/06/2009 12:57

I make my own too - I grate a bit of nutmeg over the top for quiche lorraine
