Just wondered how many people do.

Oh it's like the MMR argument all over again.

I'm no scientist, I can't go quoting "proper scientific research" (those links at the bottom of my link look fairly authoratative though)

Why would I want to go against government advice and listen to someone on a internet forum though?

theyoungvisiter · 18/05/2009 22:25

I should have said in my previous post - one healthy person. I believe you can suffer from low salt if you have other conditions or are taking diuretics.

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:26

No ofcourse it's not a serious risk in the UK, but it happens, loosing a lot of salt through sweating and becoming dehydrated.

Ivykaty44 · 18/05/2009 22:28

important to reduce salt intake

warwick univestiy research

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:29

Oh no Mary, Don't listen to anyone on an internet forum! That's not what I'm suggesting.

I just had to do a lot of reasearch into this (many years ago).

I doubt too little salt would be a probelm in a healthy person, but then if they are healthy they probably don't have too little salt in their diet right?

Now, no more hard questions, it's 10:30 at night.

FrannyandZooey · 18/05/2009 22:29

breakfast cereal is just shite isn't it - it's not real food at all - it's just invented by marketing people kind of thing

pointy are you keeping notes on your clipboard on who eats it and who doesn't?

pointydog · 18/05/2009 22:30

ok, right, salt generally speaking not good.

But 'salty' cereals won't matter too much if there is little salt in other foods eaten during the day

Ivy, going to France on Friday. Paris next weekend

FrannyandZooey · 18/05/2009 22:31

and was it the which report that found some cornflakes were saltier than sea water?

if you want cereal but no salt / sugar, kallo rice pops are good, plus you can get unsalted cornflakes, puffed whole grains, etc

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:31

youngvisiter is it a health food if it is organic maldon salt?

Ivykaty44 · 18/05/2009 22:32

o la la have a good time. Did you go for the one near the big superhypermarket?

tigerdriver · 18/05/2009 22:32

I am with FrannyandZooey: what is breakfast cereal for? I just can't eat it. what is wrong with: last night's leftover curry/shepherd's pie/roast; soup of most descriptions; a hummous/salad/dried tomato sandwich. As long as you wash it all down with a nice cup of tea. what are cornflakes FOR?

pointydog · 18/05/2009 22:32

no, fran! This came up in a conversation a while ago and it came to mind again. That's all.

I realise cereals are generally not good but just wanted to find out how ba dthey are considered to be. Or not

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 18/05/2009 22:33

OMDB, it was too much salt i was really questioning (as per Ivy's MRC link) but you're right, I'll let you answer that one tomorrow

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:33

F&Z that would be before they decided to make a new improved version of cornflakes with less salt, coz now they taste mor like carb=dboard than sea water

pointydog · 18/05/2009 22:33

tiger, they are super crunchy and taste good with milk

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 18/05/2009 22:35

Mai oui! Absolutement. Le Carrefour est... bloody hell, can't remember any french!

Sorry for double hijack pointy...

I try to avoid really bad cereals. Which is odd, you'd have thought the plainer ones like Cornflakes and rice crispies were better.

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:37

tigerdiver cornflakes are for getting stuck to the carpet under the table and drying on, evading the hoover for weeks until I have to get down on my hands and knees and scrub the damn things off.

Akcherly we don't eat cereal in this house, we have organic millet porridge ground up for us daily by nubile young virgins and cooked in honeydew.

FrannyandZooey · 18/05/2009 22:38

yes tiger and people get a bit het up if you make your child a cheese sandwich for breakfast instead of weetabix and milk
doh
it's the same thing
in fact you might as well serve pizza for breakfast = milk + wheat, but with added bonus of tomatoes
so pizza for breakfast in fact MORE healthy than cereal

theyoungvisiter · 18/05/2009 22:39

do your nubile young virgins do house deliveries (and are they male or female?)

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:39

but think of the salt content of the cheeeeeese F&Z!

No I agree, nothing like cheese on toast for breakfast, or humous and warm pitta bread.

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:40

well I'll loan one out to you if you want visitor, but it'll cost ya.

They are young and female, of course!

tigerdriver · 18/05/2009 22:42

oh I wasn't talking about DS, he only eats honey nut cornflakes, without milk, with a half pint of hot milk and honey on the side.

It's me who can't do the cereal thang.

pointydog · 18/05/2009 22:42

we quite like crunchy cereals, though. And toast.

OP posts:
Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 22:44

I had a lodger once who always bought the crunchy muisly #9you know, the cooked clusters) and would then cook it like porridge in laods of milk until she had a sloppy goopy mess

Always made me smile. Why she didn't just buy porridge I don't know.
