something very rich and chocolatey, but with something sharp alongside, raspberries maybe?

HeadFairy · 07/05/2009 09:12

Depends what went before...

I'm a sucker for something creamy like creme brulee with a good crispy topping.

Cies · 07/05/2009 09:13

something delicious that I can' be bothered to make at home!

it depends on the weather and what we've had for main course, but perhaps a lemon tart, tiramisu, strawberry cheesecake...

TheArmadillo · 07/05/2009 09:13

my favourite is baked peaches, scattered with fresh raspberries and a very good vanilla ice cream. Possibly some kind of biscuity thing to go with it. (also is piss easy to make).

Either that or something like cheesecake with fresh fruit.

BiscuitStuffer · 07/05/2009 09:16

My current options (but can look up more!) are:

Lemon Cheesecake with ginger bottom (!)
Rich choc cake with bourbon
Neptunes Navels (Baked peaches/nectarines with mixed spice and crushed pecans).

I would like to do ONE pud really and am deciding if I can be bothered with cheeses 9possibly not).

First course is smoked hot chicken and beef and 'some' gorgeous salads and garlic bread.

Something sweet and rich, with some fruit (fruit salad?) as well so that I can choose not to indulge if I don't want to.

I usually do 3 puddings - one chocolatey, one not (key lime pie/cheesecake/pavlova) and a fruit salad.

In the winter, I would do a hot pudding, but not at this time of year.

TheArmadillo · 07/05/2009 09:19

cheesecake is good as can be made in advance and no faffing in kitchen when guests are there.

How do you do the hot smoked chicken? Do you buy it smoked?

BiscuitStuffer · 07/05/2009 09:20

I need to minimise the number of fridge item puds, in the unlikely event that there are any leftovers, as our fridge is small and will be full!

We use a smoker - very good investment - particulalrly as DH does the cooking!!

that looks cool

thumbwitch · 07/05/2009 09:25

pavlova - have wheat ishoos so pavlova always a good option.
failing that, given your fridge probs, some kind of fruit-topped meringue without the cream - you know, the mini-nests with glazed fruits
or macaroons
fruit salad just doesn't cut it for me, sadly - not enough texture.

PestoMonster · 07/05/2009 09:25

Key Lime Pie
Banoffi pie
Mississippi Mud pie

(Do you sense a theme here...? )

strawberries and/or raspberries and ice cream (with a drizzle of maple syrup on top).

HeadFairy · 07/05/2009 09:28

Hmmm love the idea of a lemon cheesecake with a ginger base... sounds yummy. Just make a small one so there's no left overs

BonsoirAnna · 07/05/2009 09:31

A very light cheesecake (there's a fabulous one in River Café Two Easy) with no base, and a bowl of raspberries on the side.

chimchar · 07/05/2009 09:31

for me? ANYTHING homemade!

i like "posh" fruit salad..with tropical fruits and a splash of alcohol, rather than apples and pears type stuff...

chocolate is always a winner, or anything sort of layered and sludgy...cake with sauce/trifle/tiramisu/cheesecake etc..

god....i'm drooling just thinking about it!!

MrsEricBana · 07/05/2009 09:33

Ooh, raspberry pavlova please!

Sunshinemummy · 07/05/2009 09:48

White chocolate mousse is a big hit in my house. That or chocolate fondant.

PestoMonster · 07/05/2009 10:01

Definitely nothing creamy

Lemon Meringue Pie? Delicious!

Lemon Tart with biscuit base? I have a super easy recipe for this, if you want it!

girlandboy · 07/05/2009 10:07

Lemon Layer Pudding

My favourite

BiscuitStuffer · 07/05/2009 19:34

Right, ok. I am now thinking lemon cheesecake with ginger shortbread bottom and rich choc cake with bourbon!

BUT - I MUST know about this white choc mousse and lemon layer pudding - they sound divine - how do you make them and how do they rank out of 10??? My pud choices may get a boot up the bum in favour of NEW puds

stop. wait. there's another contender. Amandine cake - really moist almond/marzipan tasting cake.

It has to be lemon meringue pie for me.

Do you think I can pull the pregnancy card and send OH out for one right now?
