pupuce · 30/04/2005 22:09

Very tired tonight.... too much sun at the beach LOL

miggy · 30/04/2005 22:27

VB-can you just turn up at Harvest supplies-is it like a shop?
V.Annoyed to see this thread now as was in forest row this afternoon-wanted some organic flour, was in that direction and thought aha! thats just the place. Sadly I didnt know about any of the places you mention and the only organic shop in the village shut at 1pm. Bah humbug

velcrobott · 30/04/2005 22:39

Miggy - Yes you can they are open everyday but not sunday or monday - from 9 to5.
It is not in Forest Row and it is not easy to find (hidden in the Ashdown Forest).
There are organic shops in Forest Row though.... can't think of the name but it is well known.

No worries- pupuce

tiddlypom · 30/04/2005 22:55

Fantastic, thanks, will go there.

ionesmum · 30/04/2005 23:06

pupuce - well done for spotting me on this thread, yes I did thank you and will be in touch!

CordeliaP · 30/04/2005 23:06

velcrobot any books you can recommend for nutrition/recipies?

ionesmum · 30/04/2005 23:07

Good question, Cordelia. All the books I buy look very nice but don't have a great deal of content, IYSWIM.

velcrobott · 30/04/2005 23:10

I like Jamie Oliver's books actually. I find his recipes are quite nice and easy.
I mean I have been cooking for over 20 years so I can invent too but don't always do.
I like Nigel Slater sometimes or Delia's books.
I'll think about your question...

mrspink27 · 06/05/2005 21:35

Seasons in Forest Row, fab shop on 2 sites, one does fruit and veg and the other is a bit like a deli/genrel food organic shop.
Anyone else nearby?

velcrobott · 06/05/2005 21:56

Seasons is more expensive than Harvest Home. I think they may even supply Seasons actually!

kerfuffle · 08/05/2005 08:43

You are so lucky to have an organic veg wholesaler near you. How did you find it? I am in awe of your lifestyle, I wish I could be half as dedicated to it as you are. I get really annoyed at how much I pay for my fruit and veg at the s'mkt for such poor quality, can't afford s'kt organic, have been to organic shop but very expensive for v. small quantity (we eat lots of fresh fruit & veg), farmers markets have very limited choice. Any ideas how to find a good supplier in my area, I live in warwickshire (midlands).

basketcase · 08/05/2005 08:54

Oh no! Another thread that fills me with feelings of being totally impressed, full of respect for a better way of living, inspired etc. and also makes me feel like I must be failing my kids and family totally.
Every room in my house is a mess, boiler not working (two weeks now) so still no hot water other than emersion heater, our garden is non existent (just a layer of dried mud, middle of totally redoing it and stripped the top off). My fridge and kitchen is full of junk that costs hundreds and probably has only 2 real meals worth in so will end up going to Tescos three times next week.. One child is dressed and the other is running around half naked refusing to eat her breakfast. So what am I doing? Hiding in the office, sitting on the computer..
I think it is time I paid the flylady a visit and get organised again.

Does anyone know any good shops in London or box schemes in london, have been inspired,by this thread.

mrspink27 · 21/05/2005 22:23

Velcrobott.... managed to get to Harvest Supplies today with my sil... what an amazing place! even if it did take about 40 minutes of driving up and down the main hartfield to ashdown forest road before we realised we had to turn off!
it was great and will defo be visiting again!thanxs very much for the recommendation....

NannyL · 21/05/2005 23:53

Im a nanny and normally spend less than £50ish (more often than not MUCH nearer £40 a week) on pretty much all organic food too.

It can be done (tho i must stress that is for me and 2 children only and only for 5 days a week, tho the fruit and veg i buy normally last all week and the parents use them as well.

Agree cooking from scratch helps!

I go to tesco alot where organic butter is only 88p for a normal size one etc (lurpac is around £1!) and their own brand organic food are very good value!

I will ONLY feed them organic meat (esp chicken etc) organic fruit and veg, and make an effort to buy lots of other 'stapels' flour / eggs / pasta / tinned toms / tom puree / cheese / yoghurt / milk / ham organic as well.

The children eat 'well' at meal times and have 1 fruit snack in the afternoon (or an organic cheese stick or home made cake / biscuit etc!)

When you cut out all the 'junk' multipacks of crisps / choc bars / cake bars / biscs etc its amazing how much the shopping bill is reduced buy.

We also make our own ice cream etc,a nd lots of our own puddings. They only drink water and apple juice is an occasional treat!

I find that its processed ready made food that costs more than organic, and i know what i would rather eat and feed the children!
