Explain why we SHOULD or SHOULDNT buy one.
What do you use yours for (or is it just stuck in the cupboard) Is it a good idea or is DH just being a nob (as per usual)

yuck! can you still buy them? We went to view a house a long time ago and there was a haze in the house and awful smell from their deep fat fryer. Baking or grilling much healthier and it will sit on your counter taking up lots of space.

we bought one so we could make pineapple fritters as we were spending far too much money on them at the chinese

i use it pretty rarely now, for fritters or for yummy home-made chips once in a blue moon
but tbh I think if you aren't using them a lot they are a real faff. you need a LOT of oil to fill it up and then if you aren't going to use it for ages then you've got to get it allk out again and clean it out and blah blah blah.

ramona is right. mine is sat gathering dust on my worktop. hasn't been used for about 9 months

I love them. Electric deep fat fryer is much much safer than the old on the hob ones.

We don't have chips that often, but when we do I want PROPER chips.

Oh, go for a no fuss heats oil stick basket in type too - cheaper and actually much much easier to clean than all the fancy ones which drain through a tube etc.

Looooove home made chips in them but won't have one because a) they take up too much space, b) they stink and c) I'd have to peel spuds.

if you have got the budget then how about an actifry - they are expensive but make good chips and sausages etc.

I had a look at the actifry but it takes frickin AGES to make a teeny amount of chips.

Plus... lots of moving parts is never a good thing in a kitchen appliance, imo.

Oh no, don't buy one! Everything tastes so wonderful when it's deep fried!

you'll end up having luverly chips every night, and doing your own doughnuts and you'll soon look like me

Just don't. They are gross and give me the creeps for some reason. Sounds like your DH is living up to his reputation.

Get one if you like proper chips and scampi and you have room to keep it. If you are happy to eat oven chips don't bother. I have this. Its ace. You can put it in the dishwasher/totally submerge it in water.

they are scary imo...we had one when we were children and it was rank...we tried making doughnuts - disasterous.

they are a bitch to clean.

They smell, and they will make your house smell, and leave those greecey marks on your ceiling.
I had one once. I used it for chips for about a year, then I got sick of cleaning it and binned it.

well bodiddy we have just been looking at the actifry in argos, though they are expensive Would love to hear from anyone who has one.

they wre on watchdog? something like that a while back. because they kept catching fire by themselves!

Tefal ActiFry Any Good? General consensus seems to be that it's great, but slow and very expensive.

Hmm... except this person:

"I really wanted this product to be great.
It's expensive.
The chips were awful.
They take a long time to cook.
There is lots to wash up with this product.
A real disappointment."

Which doesn't sound so great when it's £100+

We got one soley for the purpose of making fish and chips, which we do about 4 times a year - we're not in the UK, so this is a real treat for us!

Unless you particularly want deep fried food quite often, or a particular deep fried dish, then I don't think it's worth getting one. Our motivation was to reduce the smell in the house after making fish and chips - and it does work, it's much better than when I was just deep frying in a large pot, and it is somewhat safer to use.

Our one is not a problem to clean.

It does sit in the cellar for most of the year though!
