I think Tesco is slightly cheaper than Sainsburys but Sainsburys have excellent customer service.

Tesco don't price match like Asda do (so if Asda don't have something they send something else and sell it at the same price as the item you wanted)

HTH

Will have to chat on MSN soon.

naswm · 11/01/2009 21:26

thansk wings - yes msn good soon

I would never use Tesco for home delivery as previous experience has frequently left me with products very close to expiring - very annoying!!

Haven't had the same problem with Sainsbury's or Ocado. Would recommend them both over Tesco.

MaureenMLove · 11/01/2009 21:27

I am no good what-so-ever for the pros and cons between the two, because I've never used Tesco, but Sainsburys is good!

Trouble is Nas, because your delievery will be from your local store, it's all about how good they are. I'm not sure you can decide between the two, on the strength of advice on here! That said, I suppose, ease of website use, could be a factor.

Totally pointless post then! Oh well, I tried!

fourlittlefeet · 11/01/2009 21:27

Sainsburys!! (am anti tesco though)

naswm · 11/01/2009 21:29

is it really from my local store? Io have never seen them collecting for deliveries from my local stores....

I use Sainsburys and it's good, I think Tesco only do a 2hr delivery slot (I might be wrong) which doesn't suit me. Some weeks a few things might be out of stock but in general it's good, especially if you shop at Sainsburys you can enter your reward card details and it will show you what your normally buy before you've even made your first order.

forkhandles · 11/01/2009 21:31

Mine isn't from my local store but the next one after that as it's much larger

MaureenMLove · 11/01/2009 21:31

It is, yes. In fact, I had a £20 discount voucher from Sainbos this week, via e-mail from the manager of our local store, because they screwed up the Christmas deliveries. Not everyone in the country had their deliveries mucked up, just the ones from my local store.

Clarissimo · 11/01/2009 21:34

I've switched from tesco to Sainsburys

I find sainburys own basics range better quality than the rquivalent Tesco

They have a fgreater choice (by far) of free from foods that we eat

They ahve 1 hour deivery slots and far more polite drivers here but no doubt that's just bad luck in who we've ahd from Tesco (live in a narrow street with unfriendly neighbours so shows the worst in any delivery driver)

I find their offers fit more closely to what I eat and their substitustions better for me. EG they give a free from alternative if a free from Product out of stock which tesco rarely manage (if I wanted a loaf of kingsmill I wouldnt order and pay twice as much for a gluten free avriant would I?)

naswm · 11/01/2009 21:34

for candles what a great name!!!!

I am inclined to go for sains over tesco, but the thought of setting it all up from scratch ius not appealing. I have used ocado for years for online about once or twice a month, and my local sains weekly. But need to ditch ocado and save money so didnt know what to go for.

any other ideas?

I used to use Tesco and Sainsbury's, Tesco used to send most things that were only 2-3 days off the use by date which I found really unhelpful. Sainsbury's used to substitute items with ones that had no relivance to the one I ordered (toothpaste instead of shampoo) and on one occasion, sent a whole wooden trainset instead of the carriage that I ordered. The train was £19 more than the carriage so I had alot of extra money taken out of my account (I had to take them back to my local store as the delivery man hadn't told me and I only realised when he had gone)!

Have you thought of Ocado? They price match on alot, turn up on time (sometimes early but they will phone first), you also get the used by dates on the screen when you order the food and on the reciept aswell so you can pop it on the fridge to see what you need to cook without going through the fridge. They also send you a free copy of the times to read.

naswm · 11/01/2009 21:43

I have been usiing Ocado since it was started but was trying to save money

maybe itr isnt that much more after all?

I opt for alot of buy one get one free or the other offers and base the meals around these so I can normally get away with spending around £60, which is alot for just ds and I.
I spend £31 in Sainsburys yesterday though, a chicken (would make 2 meals- roast on sunday, chicken curry on Tuesday), potatoes, pasta, fruit, juice, vegies.

naswm · 11/01/2009 21:47

maybe I shuold stick with Ocado for a while

I am just trying to save money and thought ocado had to be more expensivce over all...

I use Sainsbos, more reliable, rarely have anything missed (I ask for no substitutions), pleasant staff. Agree with Clarissimo - basics range is better quality than Tesco. As for price, I have started comparing prices based on cost per unit/weight/volume and it is amazing how many "special offers" are not that special - in fact dearer! Pampers nappies on special at moment - working out at 11p each.

scrooged · 11/01/2009 21:49

The luxury items (cakes) are expensive IMO, the basics are the same as Tesco though. The cakes are my downfall

naswm · 11/01/2009 21:50

thanks for tips everyone

I dont buy cakes so maybe I should do a weekly shop at ocado adn then compare?

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 11/01/2009 21:53

Why don't you use the ComparePrice website? You can do your usual shop and it compares prices with Ocado, Asda, Sainbos and Tesco as you go along. When you get to the end of your shop, you can see which one is the cheapest and use that one.

kidsrus · 11/01/2009 21:58

asda codes
i use all 3 using codes from mums net to save money.
also i go through www.supermarket.com and collect i points.
if you use tesco or sainsburys dont forget your points too as i have bought a yearly pass for lego land for my family this year using only tesco vouchers saving me £150.
i need to find something to spend my nectar points on now!
happy shopping!
ps the 1st couple of shops are the hardest but you will build a regular list in time.

kidsrus · 11/01/2009 22:00

tesco codes

kidsrus · 11/01/2009 22:02

sorry new tesco here

mooseloose · 11/01/2009 22:22

I liked ocado

scrooged · 11/01/2009 22:28

I love ocado but am on a budget at the moment. Normal business will be resumed shortly.

naturopath · 11/01/2009 22:34

I still like Ocado - I've tried to give it up but it's so much better than Tesco!
