been done before but i think this should be a thread we can all leave tips on,

today, i found myself choosing more and more value products as we are (as many others) tightening our belts,

sainsburys value snack crackers, these are lovely, really lovely, and for 49p

Not exactly value range - though I think "value" might be written on the pack - but definitely a bargain - M&S Extremely Chocolatey Milk Rolls - 6 for 99p. Much cheaper than buying them in those tubs.

GreenOnions · 10/01/2009 01:02

at that post and your talk name

Tesco white cheddar. Took some into workwith crackers and everyone was going "ohhhh where does this come from?" as if it was top of the range from the deli!!!!

juneybean · 10/01/2009 01:48

Asdas fajita kit is only £1.98 compared to the Old El Paso ones £2.94

Tastes exactly the same!

savoycabbage · 10/01/2009 02:11

I get the smoked salmon trimmings from Tesco and sainsburys for sandwiches and putting in scrambled eggs. It's about 90p a packet.

chloejessmeg · 10/01/2009 17:59

-value tinned spagetti is nice
-Loo roll is OK but doesn't last very long as they are a lot smaller
-Tesco (not value) version of Gavison is Better than gavison and a lot cheaper.

  • value "cooking bacon" tastes fine just not in perfect slices
  • Value gammon joints are nice
  • Value framais frais and yogurts
  • Value tinned tomatoes

Most of the value stuff is great, just the odd thing that isn't as nice but not awful anyway.

BoffinMum · 10/01/2009 18:07

Tesco value lasagne sheets, value smoked salmon trimmings, value frozen prawns (defrosted) and value mozzarella.

You can make a great open lasagne with these and the addition of a bit of double cream.

claireybrations · 10/01/2009 18:12

Lots of value things are good

Tesco value malt loaf
Tesco value bourbon creams

both very good

Sainsburys basics stuffing

will think of more

pinkmook · 10/01/2009 18:32

Asda basics washing powder only about £1.41 for a huge 5kg box used with asda value fabric softener (about 60p a bottle) cannot tell the difference between this and any other brand of washing powder Ive ever used - twas a revelation as other branded washing powders are like 8.99 for the same size box!

simpson · 10/01/2009 18:45

Tesco value rich tea biscuits are nice and DD who has a milk allergy can have them too

pucca · 10/01/2009 18:48

Any of the value biscuits are nice, i always buy them.

Tommy · 10/01/2009 18:49

Sainsbury's Value fresh orange juice - just as good as other brand.
I always get the Value packs of carrots and peppers - no difference
Butter
Tinned tomatoes and kidney beans
Flour

mooseloose · 10/01/2009 19:03

my ds didn't like tesco own cheerios. the cheap biscuits from tesco ok. and tinned toms.

bananapaddlepop · 10/01/2009 19:05

Sainsburys value cheddar is really good.

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/01/2009 19:07

Sainsbury's Value ready meals - some are as cheap as 75p. I don't buy many ready meals, but as I work from home always have to have something for my own lunchy - and these are really good. Best ones I've had so far have been spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, vegetable lasagne and chicken curry with rice. And low calorie as well - with very good ingredients/nothing artificial.

ComeOVeneer · 10/01/2009 19:13

I find that I get better value from shopping at Sainsburys basing my shop around their special offers (bygof, 3 for 2, half price, 33% extra etc) and meal plan around that.

mooseloose · 10/01/2009 19:31

I agree that sainsburys offers are better. And asda are cheaper too.

cyteen · 10/01/2009 19:38

Sainsbury's Basics tortilla chips are lovely, if slightly greasy, and cost about 19p.
