been done before but i think this should be a thread we can all leave tips on,

today, i found myself choosing more and more value products as we are (as many others) tightening our belts,

sainsburys value snack crackers, these are lovely, really lovely, and for 49p

Tesco and Asda Value butter 84p

Tesco and Asda value fromage frais 50p

Asda Value coco pops 66p (in a bag instead of a box, usually on top shelf.

Value bran flakes good as well, under £1 for quite a big box in both shops as well.

Asda/Tesco value jam.

Value biscuits/dishwasher tablets/kitchen roll

Asda/Tesco Value frozen fish in butter sauce (pck of 4) no diff to branded.

Value tinned carrots/tomatoes.

Value cheese, always excellent.

Do not like the value sweetcorn or peas, it seems to have gone down in quality recently.

Asda or Tesco 'Gold' coffee is also very nice, meant to be like nescafe gold, usually just over £2 for a 200g jar.

The Value washing powder/conditioner is one I haven't tried, we go through a lot, so will definetly be giving that a go.

lilacclaire · 10/01/2009 20:01

Guess where I do most of the shopping

Lilyloo · 10/01/2009 20:02

asda smart price salad cheese just like feta but creamier is luuuvely!!

catsmother · 10/01/2009 21:48

Tesco Value shortbread biscuits ...... are lovely, but not really like traditional shortbread, more like those Vienese swirls you see about a lot at Xmas time.

Their Value ginger nuts are also good - really crisp.

Stinkyfeet · 10/01/2009 21:54

Tesco Value part-baked baguettes
Tesco Value peanut butter - although my tesco hasn't had it for a while, so they have discontinued it.
Value kitchen roll - softer than normal stuff, so good for wiping faces and blowing noses!

Stinkyfeet · 10/01/2009 21:55

sorry, "may" have discontinued the pb

BlackEyedDogstar · 10/01/2009 22:06

Sainsbos Basics camembert £1, very yum.

Basics Cashews, a bit chopped up some of them but less salt than the pricier packs and lovely.

I shall try the basics humous tomorrow with basics carrots and see how that eats!

Goober · 10/01/2009 22:09

Sainsbos Lemon curd. I think 37p. Lush on white toast.

GreenOnions · 10/01/2009 22:25

great ideas here

the value pitta breads are good toasted

the wafer chocolate snacks are good and about 40p a pack

Sainsbs basics apples are great. I think they are usually oversized Galas. I always peel and slice apples, so actually like them being rather too big for one child to eat in the hand.

GreenOnions · 10/01/2009 22:33

i have tried the basic tomato sauce recently and it is ok,

not heinz, but it really tastes ok,

and at about 30/40p a bargin

BlackEyedDogstar · 10/01/2009 22:37

this thread is very useful.

I've also switched from Lavazzi ground coffee to Sainsbo's own Italian blend and it's really just as good and much cheaper.

sep1712 · 10/01/2009 22:50

Don't try the value tuna anywhere! Its like cat food and could put you off fish for life!

jimmyjammys · 10/01/2009 23:18

The value apples at my Sainsburys are the smaller sized ones so perfect for DS. I think all value vegetables and fruit are great, there is no difference in quality - just different sizes.

GreenOnions · 10/01/2009 23:19

agrees with sep,

i buy it for my dog [rank]

juneybean · 10/01/2009 23:26

GreenOnions · 11/01/2009 12:35

morrisons value 5p curry sauce is lovely.

Lucy87 · 11/01/2009 22:18

Sainsburys basics blocks of chocolate are about 25p and come in milk, white, and dark. I bought loads of milk when we were planning on doing a fondue but it was really lovely and now I buy it all the time!

Lucy87 · 11/01/2009 22:21

Ooo oo! Also forgot to mention Sainsburys' Basics Feta. This is cows milk (Danish) Feta, and IMO much nicer than the other goats milk / more expensive varieties stocked by Sains. It is lovely and crumbly and amazing in salads.
