Carrot sticks and chopped up bits of apple.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 07/01/2009 14:02

I meet her at school with either a lump of cheese or a choccy bar/flapjack

idobelieveinfairies · 07/01/2009 14:03

Mine have a lunchbox full of fruit at lunchtime, so they aren't really in the fruity mood at 3.15.......trying to keep it healthy but its hard....they are not wanting a sandwich either.

Toast and a cereal bar if really starving, otherwise a biscuit. In Reception they will probably need something the instant they come out!

idobelieveinfairies · 07/01/2009 14:05

but then at what time do you have dinner?

mine ask for more than that and we have dinner at around 5.15-5.3o.

are they being greedy do you think? should i just amuse them and ignore the food requests [nervous]

I have just started giving them toast at 4.30pm when we get back from school and then a later dinner at about 6.00pm in the hope that this staves off the after dinner munchies they wre having before.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 07/01/2009 14:07

ds has a yoghurt after nursery (he has a cooked dinner at 12, snack at 2, and I collect him about 3.15-3.30) he will then also eat dinner at 5 pm which is again a small cooked meaal, or soup ad such.

he's only 2.11 but he's there from 8.30-3.25/3.30.

brightwell · 07/01/2009 15:19

Toast or crackers & cheese or a bowl of cereal or hoummous & pitta bread. We have our meal between 6-6.30

boogeek · 07/01/2009 15:20

Cake, usually. Or a biscuit. And a banana.

Takver · 07/01/2009 15:39

Generally anything that I can find, but cheese or peanut butter sandwiches always go down well.

I remember my mum despairing when I was in that teenage state of perpetual starvation

Picante · 07/01/2009 15:58

I remember coming home from secondary school at 4.15pm, having 2 slices of toast and a large slice of homemade chocolate cake, followed by a full dinner at 5.30pm (on the table in time for Neighbours ).

Friendlypizzaeater · 07/01/2009 15:59

Popcorn is a good one - by the time hes eaten it all -its tea time

fondant4000 · 07/01/2009 16:00

I found I was in the kitchen dispensing snacks for about an hour after school (tea is at 5.30).

Now she has rice cakes to eat on the way home, and pasta twirls (plain with butter) or sandwich or croissant at home. I think milk is pretty good too.

Demands subside after about 30 mins now....

bumbling · 16/01/2009 18:01

DS is v small at school nursery 3.5, but I have range of pitta/biscuits/cake but he really likes carrot or banana cake, which I feel better about. I have to have snacks in the playground as he can't wait to get home. Can't make either carrot or banana cake, actually can't bake at all, so buy one from local farmers market poncery, cut into slices freeze individually and take out the same morning. Loves that.

BonsoirAnna · 16/01/2009 18:02

We stop at the boulangerie on the way home and she has a pain au chocolat. If she is still hungry, she might have some bread or a banana.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 16/01/2009 18:06

I normally direct them to the fruit bowl until dinner is ready.
"I'm huuuuuungry"
"Dinner will be ready in a bit"
"I'm huuuuuuuuungry"
"Have some fruit"
"I hate fruit" (lie! )
"If you're hungry, you'll eat fruit."
"I hate you"
"I love you too"

Although sometimes I buy them sweeeeeeeeeeets on the way home from school!

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2009 18:18

fruit or marmite rice cake till tea is ready

Ingles2 · 16/01/2009 18:18

toast and fruit

Mercy · 16/01/2009 18:23

I can't believe your dc eat so little after school (teens excepted)

Mine are ravenous from 3.45 onwards and fruit won't work - they have dinner at 5.30 ish

psychomum5 · 16/01/2009 18:25

cereal

hot chocolate

biscuits

fruit

yoghurts

ice pops

jelly

((all the above eaten by my children tonight since coming home from school!))

Mercy · 16/01/2009 18:28
