It was £61.09 !!!!!

It was in M&S and weighed just over 6 kilos (whatever that is in old money!)

I was truly shocked at how much it cost, and yes it was an organic one.

Shock
scrooged · 23/12/2008 18:04

It would be M&S! Their gooses were around this price. I wonder how much of a discount they will take off at 4pm tomorrow?

scrooged · 23/12/2008 18:05

They also sell a 6 bird turkey (or something like this) with goose, turkey, chicken etc inside for about £100!

glastocat · 23/12/2008 18:08

I paid over a hundred euro for my turkey last yeaar!

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 23/12/2008 18:08

Have just worked out that it was about 13.5 lbs!

Doesn't sound that big for all that money.

You should have seen the dc's faces when they saw the price.

I've just paid nearly that for a goose...

Clayhead · 23/12/2008 18:14

(slumming it compared to NDTH )

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 23/12/2008 18:19

I think NotDoingTheHousework is the winner by far!!

Clayhead comes a close second with the alternate/truly traditional bird.

I am getting the impression that I am seriously out of touch.

WHAT?
Our goose was £20 from Aldi.

And a three bird roast crown was £10.

Puzzled....

thisisyesterday · 23/12/2008 18:24

no need to be puzzled.
if you want meat that has been reared nicely and is organic then you will pay a lot of money.

if you want one that's lived it's life in a barn crammed in with thousands of other birds, with the end of its beak chopped off to stop it pecking the other birds, and fed large quantities of anti-biotics then you'll pay a lot less.

lovelySongBirdFelloutTheTree · 23/12/2008 18:25

i've never had goose before

NAB3hundredChristmaslights · 23/12/2008 18:27

We paid £15 for a turkey crown. Is it a cruelly treated one?

traceybath · 23/12/2008 18:27

my turkey that got thrown into hedge by driver who made my cry was £95!

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 23/12/2008 18:27

I've got a turkey crown again this year which cost £13 and will feed 8 of us. If it's anything like last years then it will be great.

ScruffySoAndSo · 23/12/2008 18:29

My point is that you don't have to pay £120 for a bird to roast. We are farmers and do rear our own game for our own shoot so actually do appreciate rearing practices of birds. Unfortunately the British public won't support British farmers and so we are skint and HAVE to shop at Aldi.

Why not buy a locally reared cockerel which will cost less than £10 and be about 500% tastier than an overweight turkey. Blerghhhh.

ScruffySoAndSo · 23/12/2008 18:37

Surely a Turkey to feed 16 people is not going to have had a very energetic life. It has been bred to be eaten ie. fattened up for you to spend silly money on?

thisisyesterday · 23/12/2008 18:39

no, of course you don't have to spend £120.

but you said you were puzzled, and so I explained the difference.

i would imagine that some turkey breeds are naturally bigger? have no idea

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 23/12/2008 18:40

Ooooh, I've not eaten cockerel in years. Dad sometimes used to bring a capon home.

Damn.......I'd forgotten all about them! Ah well, there's always next year.

MrsSeanBean · 23/12/2008 18:40

Beyond Organic turkey crown last year was £45.

This year's is free as DH has befriended an ethical butcher.

lovelySongBirdFelloutTheTree · 23/12/2008 18:41

scruff was the three bird crown frozen ?
