As for self, think one of my slowly diminishing but precious staff of tins of caviar from Mr Moondog's recent extended period in former USSR, followed by gresh Lleyn crab on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day, will risk a goose reared by friend. Trifle to follw.

New Year's Eve will be with friends. My contribution will be Margeritas. Delicious but lethal. Hazy on other detail and booze as yet.

An iceland platter for a fiver .

BreevandercampLGJ · 20/12/2008 17:49

Christmas Eve: Fish Pie

Christmas Day: Irish Smoked salmon and Irish brown bread, Turkey etc., , mmmm Trifle sounds like a plan.

pooka · 20/12/2008 17:49

A gresh Lleyn crab? Waaaay over my head

Sounds lovely.

NOt sure - my mother is cooking. Probably seriously dull but delicious turkey (not crown) with a large variety of vegetables. (This is evening meal - lunch is brown bread and smoked salmon. I might make blinis).

I am doing puddings. Am considering options....

SparklyBaubleFeast · 20/12/2008 17:50

do you want to be a hard core foodie moondog?? it takes time, havent you left it a bit late

traceybath · 20/12/2008 17:51

Christmas Eve - home made sausage rolls with lots of fresh sage, home pickled onions and chutney - also home made.

Christmas day - roast turkey from mr kelly and all the usual extras. Christmas pudding and or trifle to follow and a lot of lovely cheese which i won't be eating as pregnant.

Haven't decided on new year's eve yet though - possibly fish pie but with lovely seafood in it. Also doing a ham for boxing day.

saltiresaysSANTA · 20/12/2008 17:51

Not sure about Christmas Eve. Christmas day we ahve free range turkey and a joint of beef, followed by trifle. Boxing day we are having cold meat, salads and potato salad.

hecAteAMillionMincePies · 20/12/2008 17:52

Christmas day I'm doing some beef, some pork and a goose stuffed with spiced apple & prune

plus all the usuals -
potatoes done in goose fat,
brussels and chestnuts (I have decided to do that dish with bacon too)
sausages wrapped in bacon
honey drizzled parsnips & baby carrots (another last minute change!!)
yorkshire puds!
mixed veg
sage & apple stuffing
gravy

lots of little puddings -
christmas pudding with brandy sauce (change again!!)
christmas cake with wensleydale
double choc mousse
white chocolate & blueberry parcels
raspberry and lemongrass trifle
ice cream
and I'll be buying some gluten free stuff for husband and kids -can't have them sitting and watching the rest of us pig out!

nibbles will be
my sausage and apple rolls and my sausage and onion rolls
my biscuits
and a selection of biscuits, crisps, chocs and nuts bought in.

and drink. lots and lots of drink!!

saltiresaysSANTA · 20/12/2008 17:52

Obviously we shall be having veg, gravy etc with the turkey and beef

saltiresaysSANTA · 20/12/2008 17:53

New years eve - hmm, in previous years we have been in Scotland where we know how to celebrate . Last year we went out for a meal with the Dses

hecAteAMillionMincePies · 20/12/2008 17:54

oh, boxing day we traditionally have egg and chips

new year is whatever is still left lying around

Hassled · 20/12/2008 17:55

Christmas Eve - an ambitious and complicated array of curry/Indian food from recent BBC2 show the name of which escaped me. DD is in charge and apparently it will include Lentil Dhal and Pakoras.

Christmas Day - Turkey etc., pudding and a pavlova for MIL and the DCs.

NYE - another ambitious plan; we are having 2 other couples around and I will be doing tapas.

psychohohohoho · 20/12/2008 17:57

we are having lamb for xmas as the children prefer it, and asked for it.

no bernard matthews for us

BreevandercampLGJ · 20/12/2008 17:59

Oh Hassled you are kind to let her try, I would be standing firm saying no way is my house stinking of curry on Christmas Day.

IlanaK · 20/12/2008 18:03

We are having the usual turkey for christmas day - from our local farmer's market. Also the pigs in blanket and stuffing are both from the farmer's market so will be yum. I too am doing the brussels, chestnut and bacon recipe. Potatoes in goose fat too.

Boxing day we usually have a big rib roast, but decided not to this year as there will be way too much leftover and we are taking turkey sandwhiches to the zoo for lunch (tradition). INstead, I am going to do the leek, bacon and leftover turkey pie that Jamie did the other night on his show. Big difference though - ds1 desperately wants me to make yorkshire puds. So I thought I would make the pie filling seperate and then the yorkshire puds and spoon filling into the puds at the table!

moondog · 20/12/2008 18:06

V good all.

Bauble, there is no haste.I will fashion whatever needs to be made from my ample larder or procure it from the abundance of animal life around me.

Yes, have rib of beef on order.Forgot about that.

I'm sick of wine I think.I'm going to make this the Christmas of the cocktail. Lots of Campari & blood orange, mint juleps and so on.What the hell can I do with the bottle of absinthe on my shelf.
Also the spooky dark brown stick Russian balsam?

Hassled · 20/12/2008 18:08

I hadn't actually thought of the house stinking of curry bit - I am a moron .

She's 19, and a pretty competent cook. We just can't be in the kitchen at the same time or it degenerates into a giant bitch-fest.

Overmydeadbody · 20/12/2008 18:10

at thread title! MN at its best!

DS has been in charge our our Christmas day menu. So far we have smoked salmon, yorkshire pudding, redcurrant jelly, croissants, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Oh, and custard

Boxing day is at parents with a goose and the usual trimmings.

spicemonster · 20/12/2008 18:12

I haven't drunk absinthe since I was very sick drinking it on the millenium. Pour it down the loo?

We are having shepherd's pie on xmas eve, smoked salmon then turkey (barbecued of course! ) then xmas pudding. Boxing day cold meats and leftovers.

Just me on NYE so I might copy you and make a margherita and dance round on my own

I think I might make a thai curry for myself too

Overmydeadbody · 20/12/2008 18:12

what is dark brown stick russian balsam?

moondog · 20/12/2008 18:13

You tell me Over!
I bought a bottle in Russia a couple of years ago.Gawd knows why.Think I had a bit v pissed at someone's house.

OP posts:
Overmydeadbody · 20/12/2008 18:13

Christmas eve we have noodles and prawns with garlic and ginger on the menu. EAten with chopsticks of course

Overmydeadbody · 20/12/2008 18:14

but what does one do with it?

The balsam bit has thrown me

moondog · 20/12/2008 18:15

I dunno!
(Apart from drink it.Actually maybe it is actually an ointment or tincture and those pesky Russkies were having me on about drinking it?) and

OP posts:
Overmydeadbody · 20/12/2008 18:22

at being duped by the russians!

Balsam does sound a bit pharmacutical doesn't it? But then...most Russian alcohol could pass as medicine couldn't it
