i love nigella's molten chocolate babycakes. they taste delicious. not sure they are that sophisticated though, if you are looking to impress, just very yummy!

I always like a really nice fruit tart with lovely pastry.

frenchmumma · 15/12/2008 16:31

4 people. I will have a practice go beforehand.

i know its a bit of a standard rather than wow but we had jamie olivers sticky toffee pudding at the weekend at a friend's house and it was absolutely gorgeous. especially with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I made chocolate and rapberry pavlova the other week when we had friends to sunday dinner they were not culinary experts but despite being very rich the whole lot went quick DDs friend took some home for her mum as she thought it was so nice and the mum asked for the recipe

Go "ironic" and make traditional bread and butter pudding - it's easy and tastes amazing and everyone loves it. Grown men start weeping and reminiscing about their childhoods.

simple recipe

or delia's famous chocolate one though I haven't tried this yet.

Babbit · 15/12/2008 16:35

I'm planning to male this over Christmas but haven't had a go yet so don't know how good it is. Was from last month's Olive Mag

Chocolate fondants with toffee centres

twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 15/12/2008 16:36

For 4 chocolate fondnat is also a good idea.

I also love a good apple tarte tatin

snigger · 15/12/2008 16:37

Make homemade shorty (cut into circles), sandwiched round eton mess mix (strawberries/whipped cream/meringue) - dust with icing sugar, decorate top shorty with sliced strawberries and a chocolate curl, and serve on a plate swirled with strawberry coulis and dark chocolate sauce - simple but gorgeous to look at, low stress factor.

As long as there's enough sugar and a hint of chocolate about a pudding, I think presentation will get you more wow factor than five hours in the kitchen

bellaBuonNatalevita · 15/12/2008 16:38

For bread and butter pud, I use brioche and a good glug of baileys! Tastes yummy.

twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 15/12/2008 16:38

As soon as I am well babbit I am going to make those.

frenchmumma · 15/12/2008 16:41

Some lovely ideas - thanks but I have to "take the dessert" so it has to be pre-made at home....so I suppose something cold.

OP posts:
Babbit · 15/12/2008 16:41

Hmm yes they look good don't they and can be made in advance pretty much.

likessleep · 15/12/2008 16:42

this thread is making me hungry! i am going to stop reading it

snigger · 15/12/2008 16:42

I have an outlandish bread and butter pudding recipe which involves marmalade, toffee chunks, dark chocolate chips and chopped apricots.

It is too yum for words but gets served in very tiny portions

twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 15/12/2008 16:43

Take the pavlova, so easy and so yummy and it is cold.

What about Chocolate Mousse?

Antony Worral Thompson's Sexy Toffee Pudding is always a good bet!

Slices of pannetone (sp?) soaked in cream, layered with toffee sauce then baked in the oven, served with vanilla ice-cream

Really easy and absolutely gorgeous.

Will post full recipe if you're interested.

frenchmumma · 15/12/2008 16:49

Has to be cold dessert and pre-made to take along

OP posts:
snowleopard · 15/12/2008 16:53

Urgh at "sexy" pudding!

ClausImWorthIt · 15/12/2008 16:55

Yes - a bit sleazy like old AWT himself! Tis a fab recipe though. In fact, I might even use the word orgasmic.

twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 15/12/2008 16:55

Antony Worral Thompson and sexy should not be in the same sentance, does sound yummy though.

You would need to call it something else unless it is the kind of dinner party where you leave your car keys in a fruit bowl.
