What do your children have for breakfast?

TinyGang · 23/03/2005 11:54

My children aren't that bothered about cereal and they always seem to have so much sugar in them anyway.

They usually have toast and marmite/jam/chocolate spread or in a sandwich. The little ones also have banana smoothies (just milk and banana, no icecream in it before I get told off!) Older dd won't drink milk much now which is a shame.

We don't have time to start doing cooked breakfasts. What else could they have? Toast is getting a bit monotonous. Sometimes they have a hot cross bun, but I really think of them as cakes for tea time.

Mine both eat loads for breakfast every day. They have:
Fruit Juice
Cereal or porridge or sandwich or toast
Yoghurt
Piece of fruit
Cake or hot cross bun or similar

It sets them up for the day!

During the week it's cereal - usually 2 bowls from Weetabix, Shreddies, Rice Krispies, porridge, Readybrek. Frosted Shreddies sometimes as snack or as weekend breakfast.
I try to do pancakes once at the weekend - I try to make the batter the night before so I just have to fry them in the morning.

Dd's never been fussed for breakfast. She's 2.5 and will have a small cup of milk, maybe half a slice of toast and butter or half a toasted crumpet, possibly a bit of banana or other fruit, but generally it's a bit of a battle to get her to have anything.

Kama, I usually expect dd's mealtimes to last 30 mins. But seeing as she's full very quickly on very little that might be below average time wise.

Evesmama · 23/03/2005 14:53

1-2 weetabix with baby box of raisind mixed in, two small yogurts and piece of fruit(banana /apple/pear)

Caligula · 23/03/2005 14:58

Mine normally have porridge, followed by toast and marmite.

Bacon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms with toast at the weekend.

It doesn't seem to worry them, the monotony - they like the routine.

In fact, they get very annoyed if they get the toast first, because that's the wrong way round.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 23/03/2005 15:10

porridge and toast

TwinSetAndPearls · 24/03/2005 00:59

Usually cereal or porridge.

Sometimes boiled eggs with soldiers or grapefruit. A rare weekend treat is a full english which she adores.

Today

Dd1 = Museli
Dd2 = Toast
Ds = Weetabix and a bannana

They will eat pretty much anything, although dd2 can be quite fussy.

At the weekend they usually have a boiled egg or scrambled egg.

Apple juice

moondog · 24/03/2005 23:35

What's wrong with a monotonous b/fast?
Hey, I'm not running a holday camp y'know..

(Am of the firm opinion that too much choice is a very bad thing.)

marthamoo · 25/03/2005 00:04

Cereal.

Toast and jam, crumpets and jam, Scotch pancakes and jam, potato cakes and butter.

At the weekend: poached egg on toast, bacon butties, fried mushrooms on toast.

Ds 2 usually has some mixed fruit and nuts as well (that tropical mix you get in healthfood shops).

Ds1 always has milk and fruit juice because he prefers milk but won't eat fruit - so that's his Vit. C fix for the day.

colditzmum · 25/03/2005 00:06

My ds had salmon chunks and a cut up pear for breakfast, as it is the one meal where I can be sure he will eat anything put in front of him!

ghosty · 25/03/2005 05:28

DS has cereal for breakfast ... weetabix or crunchie nut cornflakes (or rather, he thinks it is crunchie nut cnflkes ... I mix them with Branflakes in a tuppaware cereal container quarter crunchie nut and 3 quarters Branflakes).
Sometimes he will follow that up with a piece of toast and some fruit.
DD has baby porridge with fruit followed by a bottle of milk.
At weekends DS and DH have eggs ... he used to call them "leggies" when he was younger so we still call them 'Scrambled Leggies' or 'Dippy Leggies'
I always have two crumpets with a smear of Weight Watchers Jam (only 2 WW points you know!!) I find that much more filling than a 30g bowl of cereal ...
