MistressMary · 21/03/2005 19:01

It's called the Sunday Roast.

lou33 · 21/03/2005 19:07

Gobbledigook · 21/03/2005 19:10

Eeeew, no. I saw an advert for pot noodle on the side of a bus shelter the other day and I just thought, how can they actually get away with it and who on* earth eats them? Yuk, yuk, double yuk!!

jane313 · 21/03/2005 19:11

Its not just food though is it? On recent threads one could feel crap cos you haven't got your toddler out of a pushchair and going on 5 miles hikes by the time they are 2 or they don't speak whole sentenceas, know their alphabet and do simple sums by 18 months, or if they have watched more than 5 mins tv over the last few months.

JoolsToo · 21/03/2005 19:11

vict17 for one!

JoolsToo · 21/03/2005 19:12

I wish I had a ready meal in the house cos Ive made a really crap dinner.

vict17 · 21/03/2005 19:15

I think peole eat them cos they're packed full of crap to make them taste yummy. It's a hangover from student days for me. I only have them as a 'treat' every now and again. And yes, I know yu all think I'm mad for calling them a 'treat'!!!!!

Kama - no "decent" ready meals to be found easily. You could get a frozen lasagne or a powder to reconstitute, but not quite the same quality as M&S.

I think Americans are more likely to eat out or get a takeaway when they can't be bothered to cook. Most restaurants in the mid-priced family market (TGI Friday clones) have a very reasonable takeaway service.

lou33 · 21/03/2005 19:59

i like the pot noodle ads though, but ti doesnt make me want to eat one

pabla · 21/03/2005 20:08

On the subject of ready meals - my cousins in the US were discussing baking, making pecan pies at Thanksgiving, to be precise. Apparently no-one there makes there own pastry anymore, just buys ready made bases, cans of whatever the sauce on a pecan pie is (toffee?) and throws the whole thing together.

Thanks for starting this thread coddy. Fair play to anyone who only gives their kids home-made food, but frankly when I finally get in at 6pm on a Friday, after keeping two ds's quiet during my dd's ballet lesson, they would be lucky if I was up to throwing something in the oven - they are more likely to get a KFC takeaway (and a curry ready-meal for me and dh)!

morningpaper · 22/03/2005 20:58

Just read your post Pabla about American 'cooking'. What a strange idea - what's the point? Made me smile.

This thread has made me determined to eat some SuperNoodles before the week is out.

When we lived in the US some apartments didn't even have a kitchen - I kid you not. They order out or eat out and I have even heard of a coffee delivery for someone who couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. This is 100% the truth

happymerryberries · 22/03/2005 21:05

I met an american woman who had never cooked until she came to live in the UK. Her dh was in the USAF and they always had fast food outlets on base that would deliver. They were posted on exchange and she was shocked that we didn't have the same facilities, so she learned to cook.
