and how about some appreciation for McD/BK burgers while we're at it

wheresmyfroggy · 21/03/2005 17:12

You obviously haven't tasted it Dinosaur

morningpaper · 21/03/2005 17:16

lol I'd just put some chips and fishfingers in the oven when I read this thread...

mummytosteven · 21/03/2005 17:18

ah but they're going in the oven, not being fried mp - a real non puritan would be deepfrying them, with battered mars bar for dessert

crunchie · 21/03/2005 17:23

Actually I have to say I made chicken nuggets for the first time EVER the other day. Just chiken breats cut up, dipped in egg, into crushed cornflakes and baked for 15 mins. The kids (and dh) LOVED them

morningpaper · 21/03/2005 17:24

no no no no

It doesn't count if you COOK...

Only if you just have to HEAT

JoolsToo · 21/03/2005 17:25

I think you inadvertently got the thread you were dreading Cod!

SenoraPostrophe · 21/03/2005 17:26

I don't think it's puritanism. I have a bit of a thing about home cooked food, I admit, but I like deep fried anything as much as the next man (oven chips, pah!).

mmm deep fried cheese. I also like lard. I would buy ready meals sometimes if you could buy them in Spain tho.

Twiglett · 21/03/2005 17:30

double LOL have just fed kids fishfingers and chips

(DD by default because she'd already had her own baby meal but DS feeds her to get the food off his plate .. like she's a pet dog .. tis very amusing to watch )

JoolsToo · 21/03/2005 17:32

hope you don't find fishfinger and chips in his bag!

ThomCat · 21/03/2005 17:32

i don't think it's puritisim either. There's nothing wrong with home cooked food or with fast convenience food (except i always feel sick after I eat convenience food tbh and regret it 2 seconds after finishing, but that's just me). Each to their own though aye.
I would rather poke my own eyes out then aet a curry flavoured pot noodle, actually I'd rather just have beans on toast and leave my eyes where they are but ykwim

Twiglett · 21/03/2005 17:35

Jools LOL .. there was a pair of his pants and a toothbrush in it this morning as well as about 5 baby wipes

Enid · 21/03/2005 17:39

I like those instant noodles too, the wonton flavoured ones. Tesco do yummy organic ramen in miso for a healthy alternative.

I hate ready meals, mainly because they are fiendishly expensive and all taste the same. I'd rather have a proper takeaway, at least they are quite nice and you can have something you wouldn't normally make at home.

If you want the best ready made curry sauces in the world they are here

noddyholder · 21/03/2005 17:43

chips and mayo or tortilla chips with grated cheese microwaved and served with dips any m&s ready meal

Enid · 21/03/2005 17:45

actually I am partial to M&S Chicken kiev, potato gratin and red cabbage - comfort food

ThomCat · 21/03/2005 17:48

Arrrrrrrr, actually forgot about M&S, they don't make me feel as sick. I had one of their shepherds pies in the gastro pub range and it was great. I would buy M&S ready meals when i know I'm going to have an XL weekend and won't be able to face cooking on the Sunday and Monday night!
good old M&S.

Oh and Waitrose - anyone had their curry range, it's made by a restaurant and is Southern indian so lots of coconut chicken and fish. Really, really nice.

Kayleigh · 21/03/2005 17:49

Enid those curry sauces look delicious. Do any of the major supermarkets stock them ?

Enid · 21/03/2005 17:54

I have never seen them in the supermarket but weirdly two food shops in our (tiny) town sell them. They are honestly as good as homemade.

Kayleigh · 21/03/2005 18:12

thanks enid. will have to look out for them.

WideWebWitch · 21/03/2005 18:26

I love Pizza Express pizzas from Sainsbury's, does that count? I am probably one of the puritans you're talking about though Cod.

NomDePlume · 21/03/2005 18:30

We practically live off Tesco Finest ready stuff, it's gorgeous. Yum, Yum.

I really missed being able to buy decent ready meals when we were living in the US. Now I am happy that I can get them if I choose, but they are not really practical when there are 8 mouths to feed. Cooking doesn't faze me - it's my job .

I occasionally pick up a one person ready meal from the sale area due to close expiration date - and have it for my lunch. Also, I rarely pass through M&S without picking up a sandwich or two.
