Tonight I had pastry

It started out as chicken pie, mashed potatoes and veg. DH was cooking (for once) while I was out. He forgot to get any veg, then the water boiled away in the spuds and they burned. So I ended up with a piece of pie... then DD stood beside me and did that open mouthed baby bird impession that they do so well and ponced all the chicken.

PMSL snowballs! and for you of course....

Today we had meatballs with a mountain of spaghetti. Home-made, but not today, I made a batch a couple of weeks ago and froze half. Worked quite well.

Tomorrow... not sure. Lots of groceries arrived today so could be anything.

I usually do 2 or 3 veg, mainly to try and get a bit more into us. Also quite often one person will not like a particular veg. although tonight we are having the sausage and lentil stew it has lots of veg in it - onion, garlic, pepper, parsnip, sweet potato, celeriac, so I will just serve it with kale to provide some greens.

Othersideofthechannel · 02/12/2008 09:18

It's just a preference thing isn't it. I would rather prepare just one or two veg per meal and if someone doesn't like it they go without.

I'm not very good at juggling lots of pans and getting the timing right or cutting everything to the right size so it will be cooked to perfection when different veg are steamed together.

So we would typically have one (usually raw)veg for starters eg grated carrot or tomato salad and then another veg with the main course.

The only time we have multiple veg is when I make a pasta bake and bung all the leftover veg from the week in it!

mushroom risotto last night
fishcakes and home made chips tonight

Anna8888 · 02/12/2008 10:54

Yesterday we had chargrilled chicken, rice and a huge mixed salad followed by yoghourt - uninspiring Monday stuff.

Tonight the DSSs will be here so will probably do a Carbonara.

I would normally only do 3 veg if we had visitors (so greater volumes anyway) or for a Sunday roast. Usually it would be two. On Sunday we had honey roast parsnips, sprouts (which DD loves but DH/DS don't like) and kale. So the parsnips need loads longer than the sprouts/kale anyway. But during the week it is only usually two.

Tonight it's garlic bread, spag bol with lots of mushrooms (they need using up) for DH and the kids, mixed veg pasta for me. Tomorrow it's corned beef hash with peas and onion gravy for them, and god knows what for me.
