In a practice for Christmas I roasted a chicken after soaking it a la Nigella overnight in a "spicy bath" and did goose fat roast potatoes and carrots and green beans. We also had a practice for Christmas trifle, which dh enjoyed, which is good as it is his request. A bit sherry-y for me but apparently this is a good thing.

Tomorrow we have lasagne (done and froz yesterday) Rest of the week: Breaded fish and oven chips. Cheesey peas (paneer curry with aubergine, peas, tomatoes) and pitta bread also done yesterday. Lamb and barley stew (had a hankering for it for some reason - done yesterday as part of a batch cooking bonanza!).

serin · 30/11/2008 22:14

Tonight we just had homemade vegetable soup with homemade garlic bread.

Tomorrow we will have the roast we should have had today if mummy could've been bothered.

KarisTiasMum · 30/11/2008 22:38

mrsmaidamess · 30/11/2008 22:52

My dh cooked tonight. And by cooking I mean he layered a jar of carbonara pasta sauce alternately with pasta sheets and red pasta sauce and called it lasagne. it was about 2 cms thick

Ironically, the kids loved it. 'Its miles better than your lasagne, (carefully created from organic minced beef, vegetables, red wine etc etc)Mum'

moondog · 30/11/2008 23:02

They have special addictive chemicals added to jar slop that hook kids 4eva.

chipo · 30/11/2008 23:08

potatoes, sausage, bacon and onion bake. really easy, place all of the above in a baking tray and toss well in olive oil, season and cook in the oven. Some greated cheese on top is yummy.

ComeOVeneer · 30/11/2008 23:12

Full on roast chicken with roast sweet potatoes, potatoes, parsnips, yorkshires, peas, carrots, cauliflowr cheese and gravy.

Tomorrow will be homemade chicken and veg soup with fresh baked rolls, then mushroom and asparagus rissotto.

moondog · 30/11/2008 23:15

CoV is back in businness!
(Give us a preview of festive fare then!)

pinkbubble · 30/11/2008 23:22

I cooked a lovely dinner! (well I think I did anyway- They ate it all!)

Toad in the hole, roasted potatoes, parsnips, swede, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, fine beans, sweetcorn and leeks, oh and peas!

Obviously all home made!

ComeOVeneer · 30/11/2008 23:28

Festive fayre will be potted spiced crab with a rocket salad and melba toast

followed by roast goose with apple, prune and almagnac stuffing and forcemeat stuffing, nigella's coca-cola ham, braised red cabbage with raisins, stirfried brussel sprouts with pancetta and pine nuts, honey glazed carrots, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes (in goose fat) and gravy.

Then a raspberry champagne sorbet, followed by cheeses, homemade christmas pud with cream and brandy butter, then christmas cake, homemade mince pies and homemadetruffles. The evening buffet/boxing day will be a mix of cold meats, Gordons pork and boiled egg pie, poached whole salmon and salads.

ComeOVeneer · 30/11/2008 23:30

Do you think that is a menu worth £65 a head ?

lilolilmanchester · 30/11/2008 23:43

CoV, fab sounding Christmas menu but on the off-chance that you are Nicdigby's ILs, as fab as it sounds, not worth £65 per head (and I know you wouldn't ask for that, just making a point for the tight arses ignoramuses idiots wankers people who poor old Nicdigby is related to. )

Karis, I try to do a dessert that I make once a week and the rest of the time it is fruit, yoghurts, bit of chocolate.

For those of you who cook 4 or more different veg (on top of potato) for one meal, how many are you catering for?

If I were to do 4 veg, I'd end up cooking silly portions of each like one carrot, one handful of peas etc!

moondog · 01/12/2008 07:31

Sounds great CoV!

moondog · 01/12/2008 07:31

I did v similar goose a few years ago.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/12/2008 14:44

moondog, it's japanese, and literally translates as parent child bowl (I heart the japanese language!)it's a big bowl of rice with chicken breast pieces, semi raw egg spring onion and chilli in a soy and mirin broth. So tasty.

moondog · 01/12/2008 16:35

Sounds just my sort of thing!

bozza · 01/12/2008 22:42

Well today it ended up being spicy pilau rice and chicken curry with the leftovers from the roast. Tomorrow it will be couscous and some leftover sausage and lentil stew. Maybe with kale.

thumbwitch · 01/12/2008 22:48

nothin' - DH did it!
Stir-fried veg and grilled tuna with caper and coriander butter sauce
Yesterday we had lamb&herb sausages with sweet potato mash and carrots, beans and sprouts
Saturday we had duck breasts in plum and mustard sauce with roast baby potatoes and veg
Friday was baked salmon with potato wedges, veg and chanterelle mushrooms
Tomorrow might be shaping up to be a mushroom risotto night, or possibly a turkey pasta night...

usually we have either G&B ice cream or a Waitrose fruit fool for dessert

KarisTiasMum · 01/12/2008 23:11

othersideofthechannel....

i was wonderin too about the multiple vegetables...? i usually go for 3 max, and even then we hav loads of leftovers (family of four, 3 big.. one small) dont you end up eating left over veggies for lunch all week?

fruitbowl · 01/12/2008 23:17

b*stardised version of Hugh Fearnley's spicy sausage casserole, mixed in with pasta and with falafel for the veggie (me). Bit bland but filled us up!

I'm SO impressed with all these amazing sounding teas. (Goes off to find notepad and menu nicking implements!)

thumbwitch · 01/12/2008 23:23

we usually have 2 or 3 veg, usually carrots and beans or peas, with broccoli, sprouts (in season) or cauliflower as an extra; I don't count mushrooms as a vegetable but we often have those as another side as well.

They are mostly steamed - DH puts them in the colander and steams them all together using the large saucepan with lid - I suppose the veg takes up half the plate, usually. We don't find it excessive, and it's never the veg I have to leave until the next day!
