I like to give them a pudding, they are like rakes and if they are homemade puds I don't feel bad about it.

I do:
apple sponge
apple crumble
fruit salad
honey yogurt
ice cream (once every couple of weeks)

but have run out of ideas.

Bread and butter pudding of any description - chocolatey, standard (currants and normal bread), croissants, or one made with brioche and dates is fab too. My kids love rice pudding, too.

CountessDracula · 01/10/2008 12:34

I make up crumble mix and just add the butter
so have to hand
then cook it on a baking tray and sprinkle on yoghurt or custard

CountessDracula · 01/10/2008 12:34

oh and mini soleros are great

PoorOldEnid · 01/10/2008 12:39

you can chuck any old crap in a crumble

well, by 'crap' I mean plums, kiwis, whatever

my favourite for children is rice pudding when I have a load of milk leftover - can be frozen in little pots

CatIsSleepy · 01/10/2008 12:43

my mum always used to make puddings
stuff like sponge puddings (eg upside down pineapple sponge pudding)
crumbles
apple tart tatin
a lovely lemon sponge thing which ended up with a lemony sauce on the bottom
choc pudding which also ended up with sauce underneath
pancakes
a concoction of chopped bananas and mandarins, covered in cream, and topped with brown sugar which was put under the grill to melt the sugar (god I loved that one)

CatIsSleepy · 01/10/2008 12:43

oh yes and rice pudding
done in the oven with lemon peel and cinnamon stick

CatIsSleepy · 01/10/2008 12:45

saw this on another thread too, sounded nice

NinaInCognito · 01/10/2008 14:11

Can't remember what it's called but it is no bake, no fuss and tastes nice:

1litre or 500g tub flavoured yoghurt
1 pottle of cream (whipped)

Combine these and then add anything you want. We used to add berries and chocolate.

Stick it in the fridge for a bit then crumble a flake or some more choc on top.

georgiemum · 01/10/2008 14:14

crepes...

lemon/sugar
butter/sugar
jam
honey
nutella
banana and honey
Apple puree
berries
ketchup, whatever they eat!!

Megglevache · 01/10/2008 16:38

PoorOldEnid · 01/10/2008 17:33

Did the pears thing.

Ding-a-dong. I had to add some double cream to the batter as mine came out so thick. The children and dh thought it was delish especially the choc sauce. It might be nice with cherries too.

Thanks for that idea.

BirdyArms · 01/10/2008 22:32

Nigella Express pineapple upside down cake is very quick and easy and delish with custard.

TsarChasm · 01/10/2008 22:35

Angel delight. I know. They don't get it often but they love it. As do I

I know it's the 'Greggs sausage roll' of the pudding world on here though.

Quickbestestever Microwave Golden Syrup Pudding
100 g self raising flour
100 g butter
100 g sugar
30 ml milk
2 eggs (beaten)
few vanilla essence
grated zest of half a lemon
3 tablespoons of golden syrup
Cream the butter and sugar together. Gradually add the eggs and vanilla essence. Add the flour, milk and lemon zest.
Put the golden syrup in the bottom of a two pint bowl. Spoon the mixture on top. Place in microwave (with a plate on top). Cook for 3.5 minutes on high. Serve with custard or ice cream.
(N.B. if doubling quantitites, cook for 5.5 minutes on high).

Ten minutes to table if you have an electric whisk Make the sponge in double the quantity and keep half the sponge back - then the following night use lemon curd at the bottom of the dish instead of golden syrup. So two pudding for the trouble of one

NinaInCognito, my mum used to make that, she called it Canadian Yoghurt and I've heard of it being called Four Seasons too (have no idea why). We make it with peaches or strawberries and put marshmallows in it too, yummy yummy!

Have nicked a few ideas off this thread as we're trying to get extra fruit into DD2 to avoid constipation (long story). Any ideas that involve prunes at all? She won't eat them as they are or chopped up - maybe we could cook them somehow?

Brilliant thread!

Megglevache · 02/10/2008 08:47

PLP, sorry TMi information but I make somethig called prune slosh which dh calls shit quick for the kids.

Any quantities
Pears
apple juice
apricots
prunes (as many as you need)
dates
raisins
cinnamon
tiny squeeze of lemon juice

(nuke in the microwave for about 2 or 3 minutes) Then cool and blitz with a food blender. It smells like an apple danish cooking.

Add it to yoghurt or use as a sauce- does the trick.
