well I'm a SAHM and I love Hipp organic jars and Babylicious .. DD ate nothing but for a month or so I would reckon .. no salt / sugar added .. all made with organic stuff (I wouldn't actually buy organic meat as too expensive and the varieties were hugs)

of course now she's 10 months old she just eats what we eat (no salt of course )

I actually got upset when DD refused savoury jars and had to start making casseroles, and dishes etc

soapbox · 10/03/2005 22:43

Libb - a lot of the jars are full of very pure ingredients - particularly the organic ones. In fact I think a safer bet than feeding them the same food as the adults might enjoy.

I used to do 1 jar a day, non-jar for other meals.

The textures are very samey, so maybe introduce more textures at the other meal times!

Say you are enjoying trying out new things.

I don't think jar baby food is bad at all. But remember, it can lead into preparing something for baby, something else for family, increasing your work load. I have a sneaky feeling that when children rebel making food a weapon in their rebellion, it is partly a weapon because they have observed already that they got fed one thing and the rest of the family something else.

Learning to eat with the family must be intrinsic with eating what the family eats.

Phew, I do Hipp Organic - I pray at their alter every day .

He loves the stuff but is now making it clear that he wants to move onto other things (he gets finger food all the time and lurves Marmite - Twiglett!)

Maybe I should chill a bit for now . . . I am thinking too hard.

samanthajm · 10/03/2005 22:50

marmite?hmmm i was going to say yuk but i took offence at that comment over cb so ill just say good for him as long as he loves it.i wish you didnt need to concern yourself over all this and you could just enjoy. I think i will go and relax now and let my brain digest all this info. Thanks to everyone that has helped and gaven me support over it.Ill be having words with hv though. My mum will say all this is nonsense but they dont always know best i guess. nite to you all and thanks againx

Soapbox, the weetabix this morning was a nod towards MY idea of food - his jar food days are numbered but I am taking it slowly.

I am being sappy aren't I?

I know what you mean SJM about butternut squash! I think what I meant was that every family probably has its own "taste" - based on the brands, ingredients, cooking time, etc, that give your cooking a unique identity (for better or worse - some of us hate cooking and admit they are not very good at it)- which your child will have to get used to at some point. The food my mum cooks me all these years later is as comforting now as it was then - and very distinctively her own. I think ten people could follow the same recipe and it would taste a little different in every house. Not sure if this makes sense to anyone...

HUNKERMUNKER · 10/03/2005 22:55

MGR, yes, total sense. My mum and I cook some of the same things, they taste different (both good, I hasten to add!). DH has a different cooking style from me too (he's good though!).

samanthajm · 10/03/2005 22:56

yes to me as my ds seems to prefer his grannies cooking to mine. She is a brilliant cook and well before he was born the microwave and frozen meals where my best friends.i know he takes a deep breath everytime i come through with a plate. Im sure there is a sigh of relief if its a bottle of milk i come with.

SJM thought you were off to bed!! Grannies love it when their cooking is appreciated, so no losers there.

samanthajm · 10/03/2005 23:01
