Depends on brand of high juice though.

I think Tesco's own was free from it but they are gradually replacing teh whole range with "sugar free" varieties whcih are of course loaded with the stuff.

RandomIdiot · 12/09/2008 16:09

Should have ended that with a

snigger · 12/09/2008 16:12

Belvoir cordials (you can get them in Sainbury) have nothing but fruit juice, sugar, and citric acid - but you pay well for the privilege.

Rachie97 · 12/09/2008 16:14

I found that normally if the item says no artificial sweetners then thats normally quite safe, best to avoid anything that is diet or low fat if you are not sure as these usually contain sweetners, I worry about sweetners, so i give my daughter muller little stars for yogurts, for myself it is normally the shape range but be carfull as there is one that does have sweetner in I think, squash is more difficult, as its either full of sugar, sweetner or both, Asda also have a "no more nasties" range which are free from artificial sweetners.

organic yoghurts and Rocks organic squash

yeo valley

"they are made with carefully selected organic ingredients... No artificial additives, colours, flavourings, GM ingredients, sweeteners, or anything else that?s not entirely natural."

ChippyMinton · 12/09/2008 16:20

Plain greek yoghurt goes down well here, with a squeeze of honey or golden syrup.
Tesco Hi Juice.

palaver · 12/09/2008 16:21

rocks squash

"Blackcurrant Cordial

Ingredients: Organic blackcurrant juice 40%, organic sugar, water, citric acid. GLUTEN FREE"

RandomIdiot · 12/09/2008 16:24

Problem is Chippy. tesco's seem to be phasing out all of their added sugar Hi juices in favour of "no added sugar variety" which are loaded with Aspartame.

ChippyMinton · 12/09/2008 16:29

Really? What a pain. It's really hard to find normal lemonade too.
Has anyone tried any other own-brand squash?
I like the french tins of sirop, but they are expensive here.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2008 16:31

i get French tins of syrup in Tesco for about £2.50.

no artificial sweetners.

or fruit tea and dilute and add a swirl of honey.

or dilute regular fruit juice.

lemonade - the cloudy stuff from Lidl doesn't have sweetners or the Straight Cut version from Schwepps.

have yet to find tonic water without those fecking shite artificial sweetners in them.

ChippyMinton · 12/09/2008 16:34

is regular schweppes tonic not OK?

expatinscotland · 12/09/2008 16:45

it's got aspartame in it, chippy.

and saccharine, iirc.

pushchair · 12/09/2008 17:03

Think Sainsbury's own brand squash is without aspartame. At least one type is. Got cross in Boots t'other day cos DP had been sold sugar free calpol when he swears blind he asked for wiyh sugar type and when I tried to return it and exchange they said not possible with medication. Did though when I questioned this.

pagwatch · 12/09/2008 17:09

rocks organics are good
there is a range of fizzy drinks called whole earth that are clean too I think.

I gave up years ago and the children drink water or diluted juice.

( if avoiding aspartme you might want to consider avoiding sodium benzoate too)

southeastastra · 12/09/2008 17:11

we use robinsons hi juice

theITgirl · 12/09/2008 17:13

Blowing my own trumpet here, but please try this squash recipe

ChippyMinton · 12/09/2008 17:17

what's sodium benzoate?

pagwatch · 12/09/2008 17:33

E211
linked with hyperactivity. makes my DS2 seriously upset.
google it

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/09/2008 17:34

Rachels organics yoghurts, sainsburys taste the difference squash.

Guadalupe · 12/09/2008 17:35

Has ordinary tonic got it in? I thought it was just the diet one. Bugger.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2008 17:38

ordinary tonic in the UK usually has artificial sweetners in it.

apparently waitrose carries one that hasn't.

E211 and aspartame cause DD1's muscle spasms to worsen big style.
