LIZS · 07/08/2008 20:11

No you substitute about 25g of flour for cocoa

palaver · 07/08/2008 20:12

tehy suggest 50 g in this recipe

palaver · 07/08/2008 20:13

Personally I think it tastes nicer with real melted chocolate and buttermilk, for a rich moist cake.

Comeoveneer - any chance of a recipe for this cake with melted choc and buttermilk - sounds delicious.

lucysmam · 07/08/2008 21:35

i agree concepta, never made choc cake but with real melted choc and buttermilk sounds yummy to me too!

COV recommended this recipe to me the other day

ultimate chocolate cake

SaintDeliasprotegee · 08/08/2008 07:06

(it's the buttermilk and melted chocolate one)

lucysmam · 08/08/2008 09:04

ooooooh am all excited but daren't look in case its a bit beyond my limited capabilities in the kitchen!! will maybe attempt it though, would be rude not to! any excuse for chocolate really. Thanks SaintDelia

My mum has a fab recipe that ads cocoa and melted plain choc. it is delicious. she made it every b'day and now I do the same. Kids love it too!

lucysmam · 08/08/2008 09:25

think i'll just stick to swapping flour for cocoa powder as SaintDelia's looks well beyond me but thank-you, it looks very very yummy. Am quite jealous of you for being able to create that!

Concepta · 08/08/2008 19:56

I'm no "Delia" but I think I'll give the Ultimate chocolate cake a go. I'll let you know how I get on, but I'll leave it to next week-end - I have my baking sorted for this week-end (Family favourite - Victoria Sponge with Fresh cream and Lidl Raspberry Jam)

lucysmam · 08/08/2008 22:17

good luck concepta, it looked quite beyond me at the mo although i would love to be able to produce something like that eventually

Nigella's Choc cookies

yum

lucysmam · 09/08/2008 15:34

ta love2bake, they look fairly easy although i might have to wait until my top up shop next week as don't have some of the ingredients.

OP posts:
Love2bake · 09/08/2008 15:36

yeah they are quite easy. I dont bother with the bicarb tbh.

lucysmam · 09/08/2008 16:24

oh, well i could probably give them a go then as that was the only thing missing.

Lucysmam and Saint Delias Protegee, I tried the Ultimate Chocolate cake and it was easy enough to make - took quite a long time though. I would be inclined to use it more as a pudding. It is very sweet which means even someone like me with a sweet tooth didn't eat too much of it.

lucysmam · 16/08/2008 19:59

Concepta, how long is quite a long time? Was debating giving it a go as my mil & fil coming for tea one night this week just it'd have to be quick-ish or they're guna be stuck with plain old choc sponge
