So what are you putting in your pancakes on Tuesday? I tend to just do lemon and sugar or jam in mine but I would like to do some savoury fillings too. I have done a ham and parmesan cheese filling before. Anyone got any other ideas?

PS. BL Does it annoy you when people call the day before Easter, Easter Saturday??? cos it does me

PPS so after all this feasting whats everyone giving up for Lent then?????

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 15:42

Easter Saturday is the Saturday after Easter not the one before. The one before is Holy Saturday. It confused me no end when I first came to England and people refered to it as Easter Saturday. Now I always ask so as to be sure.

tarantula · 08/02/2005 16:02

I used to try the giving up school tack too but never managed to get away with it.

HeyEnidYouveLostWeight · 08/02/2005 16:04

mine are sitting but they will be blueberry ones with maple syrup - snap moomina - and the kids will eat LOADS of them so that will be their tea, then they'll prob have some toast and hot chocolate a bit later.

noddyholder · 08/02/2005 16:10

someone say they are ok for the GI diet Please!

Gwenick · 08/02/2005 16:12

well I compromised - went to Morrisons to buy the eggs (realised I only had 1 left LOL) and bought one of those hand whisks - only £1.50 and not too much chance of me breaking it LOL

Dairy & Egg Free Pancakes
1 cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1-3 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
1 cup + 3 tablespoons rice (soy) milk
3 tablespoons cooking oil
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Homemade Maple Syrup or preserves, jam, or jelly (optional)
Combine the dry ingredients. Add the rest of the ingredients. Mix together
until combined. Pour about 1/4 cup batter on a preheated 350 degree F.
griddle. Turn when lots of bubbles form on one side. Turn over until
brown on the second side. Makes about 12 pancakes.
They do wok but mix is very thick so so are the pancakes, They taste OK although not quite as good as the real thing but DS allergic to egg was impressed

kalex · 08/02/2005 18:27

Well my kids have just polished off a whole load, and said they were fab, although I really felt like my mum standing in the kitchen,

Domestic flashbacks - OMIGOD!!

Moomina · 08/02/2005 18:29

Is it today? Ooops. Forgot.

Will burn in bad mother hell. Lucky ds is too young to notice my slackosity.

RTKangaMummy · 08/02/2005 18:33

We have just had american pancakes

yum yum yum

with maple syrup from canada

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 18:58

We have just finished ours - I had to do three loads of batter to fill up my lot and even then ds2 was claiming he could eat more!

Yes Tarantula, you are right about Holy Saturday but even the catholics here say Easter Saturday. Where are you from?

hub2dee · 08/02/2005 21:47

Bananas and nutella 'round our place.

Oh, and I love savoury. It's the French in me.

woodpops · 09/02/2005 10:04

Hot cherry pie filling and ice cream. Hmm lush. Was good though and didn't have any

Bozza · 09/02/2005 10:19

thanks lonelymum - I followed your tips and it was all very successful. Made one lot which made 2 each for DH, DS and me and one for DD (only 9 months) and bear in mind DS and DD had already had nursery tea - these were in small omelette pan. Then made another lot of batter after kids had gone to bed.

So much for my diet. Woodpops I admire you.

nightowl · 10/02/2005 04:10

my first one tasted like a yorkshire pudding with chips on top.

second was like a yorkshire pudding with chips and cheese.

third was like a pancake with cheese.

fourth i got it right.

Heathcliffscathy · 10/02/2005 13:39

v v belated thanks crunchie...x

Gwenick · 10/02/2005 13:40

meant also to say thanks for the 'recipe' - I simply quadrupled the quantity and we only had 2 that didn't get eaten

bluesky · 10/02/2005 13:51

They were such a success for my two, they have 'ordered' them for the weekend again! They loved vanilla ice cream, sliced bananas and M&S chocolate sauce, yum, yum.

They did lots of flipping with lots of newspaper on the floor.

Prettybird · 10/02/2005 14:09

I've still got to make mine. Got home on Tuesday night (made a point of leaving relatively on time) to find both my "boys" (dh and ds) unwell - ds lying under a duvet in the living room and dh going off to join him

Was out last night, so tonight is the first chance I've got to give in to my raving for pancakes, lemon juice and sugar.

Kelly1978 · 10/02/2005 14:14

I'm doing mine at the weekend which is the only time we can alle at together. I do ductchapple [ancakes, which is cooked apple, sultanas and cinimon filling. We used to do it at a restaurant where I worked and serve it with cream or icecream - very tasty.
