So what are you putting in your pancakes on Tuesday? I tend to just do lemon and sugar or jam in mine but I would like to do some savoury fillings too. I have done a ham and parmesan cheese filling before. Anyone got any other ideas?

Do m and s do ready made?

littlemissbossy · 07/02/2005 19:55

yes pecka they do

Peckarollover · 07/02/2005 19:57

are they delicious

do the family not expect the "flipping" faff on? Could I put one in a pan and flip it for effect?

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 11:37

To say you can't make them is like admitting yu can't boil an egg.

1/2 pint of milk - is that all - that would make enough pancake mix to feed my DH - and the rest of us would go hungry...........

How much/quantities of stuff would you use if you needed to make enough for a MEAL (we have savoury and sweet) in this house - for 4 - including one big eater????

Easy · 08/02/2005 11:47

Gwenick, I'd double it for a start, but it only takes a minute to whisk up more batter anyway

crunchie · 08/02/2005 11:50

Double it I would think. That quantity would make about 8 pancakes I think, would 16 be enough??

Or if you treble it and cook them all, you can do what my mum used to. Cook one side, then cool the pancake pack in a freezer box with sheets of greaseproff paper and freeze cooked pancakes for next time.

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 11:51

Agree with easy. I think the quantities I gave make about 10 - 12 pancakes but bear in mind I use a special omelette pan which is smaller than a standard frying pan.

it only takes a minute if you have a whisk or blender (mine broke last year) I have to to get the big food processor thingy out and plug it in to use the blender on that - and it takes up so much space I have to put it away again before I can cook LOL.

DH would probably want 4 or 5 for 'main course' - then 3 or 4 for 'desert'
I'd want 4 and 3
DS1 probably have 2 and 1
DS2 most likely have 1 and 1

so that would be around 20 (OMG!)

Gwenick · 08/02/2005 11:54

I'd be using an ommelete (damn can't spell it and it's too far up the page to scroll up to see how you spell it LOL) pan too.

KBear · 08/02/2005 11:54

I'm the only one in the family that likes pancakes so I am forced to eat them all myself.

Easy · 08/02/2005 11:55

But it doesn't take that long to mix with a wooden spoon ffs, what do you think our grandmothers did?

Gwenick · 08/02/2005 11:56

what wooden spoon?????

and this is from someone who cooks from scratch every night LMAO

Gwenick · 08/02/2005 11:57

and Easy - they would have used a hand whisk (one of those funny wooden ones - well at least my grandmother used to) - one of which I also don't own

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 11:59

Gwenick can you go out and buy one of those little hand held blenders, the sort you use to puree baby food (well I used anyway). They only cost about £10 and I use mine all the time, never use my enormous food processor TBH.

Lonely - I did have one last year - but I 'killed' it blending food my DS2

I guess I could see if Morrisons has one - but money is very tight at the moment (no income at the moment) so not sure I could justify it - I'll just make stacks of pancake mix to start with - it's not like the ingredients are expensive so I wouldn't be 'throwing' much money away if I didn't use it all (cheaper than buying a new blender which I'll probably kill again )

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 12:02

this

Only £5!

If you did treble the recipe you could put some filled in the freezer for another meal (4 left over would be enough for you or the two kids )

JanH · 08/02/2005 13:43

I just printed off Delia's recipe - mostly for DS1 who is planning to creep in and make some with some friends while I'm out this afternoon, but also for me if I'm honest !

Heathcliffscathy · 08/02/2005 13:52

ok question for you: do you have to use eggs...ds comes up in hives round his mouth when has anything with eggs in...will they work without???? any suggestions???

Peckarollover · 08/02/2005 14:14

Lonelymum "To say you can't make them is like admitting yu can't boil an egg."

I admit it, I can't boil an egg

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 14:27

Well, if you have a cook to do everything for you, good for you!
