I know there are loads of cheap meal idea threads on here but this one is different because I need ideas that dont include beans of any variety, pasta, cheese, tomato sauces or soya.

Is it possible?

Me and the kids dont like beans and dh wont eat pasta, cheese, any basic tomato sauces and stuff like that.

So far for ideas I have;
Fish cakes with salad
macaroni with stuff thrown in (we'll eat that when dh isnt here)
chopped up park with cheapy noodles
roast chicken and then to use the leftovers for a pie the next day
red lentil mix of everything
chicken livers with bacon (have heard it is nice)

But thats all I have.
Any more ideas?
I have to do an online shop at some point today.

Scoopy out jacket spuds:
Bake potatoes, scoop out insides leaving a 'shell'. Mash with something like sweetcorn, chopped peppers, bacon, onion
Nice & filling - you can serve with some salad or grilled chicken if you like

i use chicken thighs when I make it and plus it gives a better flavour then breast.

LotosEater · 08/07/2008 14:36

make stews and casseroles using cheap cuts of meat and serve with lots of potaotes and veg.

LotosEater · 08/07/2008 14:37

shepherds pie, cottage pie, fish pie

EffiePerine · 08/07/2008 14:42

I make something I call potato casserole: par-boiled potatoes, veg stock, fried onions all in big casserole, make holes and break eggs in (1 per person) cover and bake for 3-40 mins. You can add bacon or smoked sausage as well. I add grated cheese at the end and leave the cover off to brown, but you could skip that part

DeeRiguer · 08/07/2008 14:46

puy lentils are nice
rice and steamed veg (broccoli peas whatever you have) served with soy (garlic and ginger)..
homemade burgers (hides beans chick peas)
fish cakes great idea one of my favourites
tapas/meze style with hommous roasted veg fish etc pick and choose

tbh i do dinner and that is it...unless someone really hates something (they gag!)
i dont like to pander to it do not like to encourage it in adults it rubs onto kids
sometimes you have to get into foods so they have to be there and around them to have opportunity...
strict kitchen policy if you dont like it eat round it
crikey i sound hard hearted but food in the main gets eaten or at least tried fair enough fruit/yogurt/nuts if they like after

anorak · 08/07/2008 14:48

Mixed vegetable curry
chunky soup with lots of big pieces of veg
corned beef hash
mixed veg and tuna bake
spanish omelette
roast dinner using cheap meat like turkey drumsticks or value chicken, then use leftovers to make a meal the next day.

well there is the option of divorce but alas, it is too expensive.

Have noted Jacket potatoes and others.

He doesnt like curries or any type of foreign food tbh, he has a very dull palate much to my annoyance.

divorce a bit extreme - if he were a child being so picky you would give him bread and butter, wouldn;t you ? (I would)

Bread and butter can be very nice.

Doodle2U · 08/07/2008 15:59
