Christmas dinner alone (Not a sad post!) what would you choose to eat?

For various reasons I'll be alone for most of Christmas day. I'm not bothered about it really and am actually looking forward to it!

I do however still want lots of lovely indulgent food & drink! I don't mind cooking but don't want to do a full on roast just for me... I also don't particularly want a sad ready meal or even a Cook one or a takeaway.

I know lots of people would choose to have lots of "picky bits" or a cheese board but I'm very funny about cheese... I like it if it's mild and as an ingredient with things but not on its own and only if it's melted.
I'll be treating myself to some lovely bath bits, new pjs and fluffy socks and a nice candle and some new bits for my hobby (not a MN outing hobby, it's colouring 😂).

Anyway if you had to spend Christmas day alone what would be on your menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks?

I prefer Boxing Day cold turkey & pickles to Christmas Day roast, so in your situation, I would probably cook a small turkey breast joint on Christmas Eve and have it for my Christmas Day lunch with all the cold trimmings and lots of dessert.
unlike you though OP, I would make an indulgent cheese board for tea, with grapes, nuts, celery and pickles. I love that we all pick different treat food.

Whatever you do, have a fabulous day and spoil yourself.

I read the title and immediately thought of just one continuous cheeseboard, but since that not your thing, I think I would get all the really lush preprepared stuff from Waitrose and M&S and enjoy not having to do the prep. To be honest I’d probably snack on junk all day and be craving broccoli and lettuce by bedtime!

Pigs in blankets, stuffing, roasties and veg, I would make enough to have the next day too.

Evening prob just pudding as too stuffed to eat it earlier and it would be m and s best ever choc log or pine cone. (Maybe both!)

IsThisLifeNow · Yesterday 22:30

Breakfast would be smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, Lunch would be baked Camembert with pigs in blankets and fancy baked bread, Dinner would be party food from M&S!

Imaginingdragonsagain · Yesterday 22:35

breakfast would be cinnamon rolls and fruit salad. Lunch would be prawn cocktail, main would involve m&s red cabbage, some chicken, bread sauce parsnips roast potatoes(pre made and reheated) . Duck pancakes for dinner sounds fab.

I’d probably have avocado on really nice seedy toast and some fruit for breakfast with posh juice. Dinner would be something easy to prepare like a Waitrose prawn cocktail followed by a steak. I’d have in all my favourite snacks and spend the day in my pjs.

enjoy your day OP, sounds great!

Honestly?

A massive cheeseboard, freshly baked focaccia & and a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape. Eaten in bed.

Yolandyouhoo · Yesterday 22:50

Definitely the lamb with roasties, Brussels sprouts, peas and carrots. For dessert I would have M & S chocolate fondant with ice cream.

Wateredandfed · Yesterday 22:52

I'd get a takeaway for dinner to be honest, Chinese or Indian.
And lots of snacks, cheese, wine, chocolate, biscuits and good coffee all day long.
Enjoy yourself OP!

@Shedmistress there will be a cat present, although just the one as we recently lost our boy. Unfortunately no wood burner , that would be lovely 🥹!

Sorry about your boy, but enjoy cat snuggles no matter what your food is.

DoreenCorkhill - sounds delicious! My kind of food!

tfu · Yesterday 22:55

I did this a couple of years ago and it was fabulous!

breakfast Buck’s Fizz and toasted panettone
smoked salmon, prawns in Marie Rose sauce and baguette with salted butter for lunch
haggis neeps and tatties for dinner followed by homemade Black Forest trifle

plenty of wine, posh crisps and dips, box of mince pies and brandy butter, and sausage rolls as snacks and a killer cheese board - that was a great day !!

It wouldn't suit you as you don't like seafood but I'd buy one of those Christmas seafood platters that you're supposed to put out as a sharing plate at a buffet. I wouldn't share though. I'd eat it all with a fancy/artisan loaf of bread and decent butter.

For pudding I'd get a fancy box of chocolates and I'd wash it all down with Prosecco or Champagne while watching Christmas tv.

Enjoy your day.

@Shedmistress thank you, unfortunately if I tried snuggling my girl I'd be in ribbons by the end of the day 😂. She's lovely but not a cuddler at all and a very sensitive, anxious old lady. She will only lay on me if I'm using a particular blanket so that'll definitely be coming out on the day! Wouldn't have her any other way though, she's just like me 😂!
My boy was a total velcro cat, so it's been an adjustment but she's too old and grumpy for me to introduce another at the moment!

Steak is good call, easy to make.
I have had a few Christmas days alone and love it, l normally got a posh ready meal, make a salad then loads of unhealthy snacks for the rest of the day.
No washing up really .

Pieceofpurplesky · Yesterday 23:11

Yoghurt bowl with fresh fruit and nuts for breakfast with a Buck's Fizz.
A fish pie (m and S is delicious) with peas and some rosé.
cheese board and nibbles for tea with a glass of red.
Chocolate by the handful and a good book

sunandpeonies · Yesterday 23:15

Coffee and citrus panettone for breakfast.
Bruschetta for lunch.
Smoked duck breast and griddled peaches for supper.
And homemade meringues with mascarpone and chestnut purée at hand throughout the day.
I’ve really enjoyed devising my solo meal.
Thank you @YeCannaeShoveYerGrannyAffABus

Simon Rogan Christmas at home meal box. Did it one year as I was alone, and was lovely.

A spicy margarita
Oysters with shallots and vinegar/lemon or a fabulous chicken liver parfait
Fillet steak (rare), potato dauphinoise and buttered green veg
Pavlova with berries and clouds of cream
Washed down with good champagne and then a NZ pinot noir.
Cheese, cheese and more cheese with Peter's Yard crackers and French butter with salt crystals
Port
Coffee and cocoa dusted almonds
Add in a book, a bath and a rom com.
Heaven.

Scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast about 9am. I'd probably cook a chicken for dinner with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, pigeon blankets and gravy but i'd not cook my dinner until 6pm. Over lunch time I'd just have a few glasses of champagne. I wouldn't have pudding but I'd munch on nice chocolate in the evening and a tub of Trees let's.

I’m usually alone on Christmas Day and vary what I eat most years!

usually I just go for whatever my fave meal at the time is plus an indulgent dessert - often one of those melting middle chocolate things with custard
then I get sweet and savoury snacks and some nice alcohol free drinks in
for the rest of the Christmas period I upgrade my usual food so fancy bread with scrambled eggs, gold top milk instead of standard stuff etc etc

I have a long bath, watch the hallmark Christmas films, nap and read while the cat snoozes

dunroamingfornow · Yesterday 23:52

I would work myself into a food coma with pigs in blankets, gravy and roast potatoes !
