Christmas dinner alone (Not a sad post!) what would you choose to eat?

For various reasons I'll be alone for most of Christmas day. I'm not bothered about it really and am actually looking forward to it!

I do however still want lots of lovely indulgent food & drink! I don't mind cooking but don't want to do a full on roast just for me... I also don't particularly want a sad ready meal or even a Cook one or a takeaway.

I know lots of people would choose to have lots of "picky bits" or a cheese board but I'm very funny about cheese... I like it if it's mild and as an ingredient with things but not on its own and only if it's melted.
I'll be treating myself to some lovely bath bits, new pjs and fluffy socks and a nice candle and some new bits for my hobby (not a MN outing hobby, it's colouring 😂).

Anyway if you had to spend Christmas day alone what would be on your menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks?

I would still do some turkey, home made stuffing, roast potatoes 2 veggies and some wonderful gravy.

I'd volunteer at a homeless shelter like crisis and enjoy it with others.

UncannyToad · Yesterday 21:59

I can no longer eat cheese after a sudden vomiting event involving said cheese 🤢 However, for my solo Christmases I have a really good steak, and more prawns then one human should eat. And a mini Christmas pudding with clotted cream. Heaven!

That's not what the OP is asking though. She has plans for the day and isn't bothered about being with others.

YeCannaeShoveYerGrannyAffABus · Yesterday 22:03

@ElizaToolittle Unfortunately that's not an option for me due to my disabilities.

Crispy aromatic duck with hoisin sauce, wraps and cucumber

DiNozzoComingBack · Yesterday 22:04

It is slightly worrying that I didnt even need to think about this..... 😂😂😂

Rack of lamb (for 1). Potato dauphinoise. I would want additional veg but not sure what. Possibly roasted squash. Maybe greens.

I would make a point of tracking down my favourite lindt gianduja.

I dont care much about snacking but would get some cheese and biscuits in.

A good sauvignon blanc for while I was cooking and an excellent red wine for the meal.

doitwithlove · Yesterday 22:04

I would have salmon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes and toast for breakfast with a glass of fizz.

Lunch/dinner would be picky bits from M&S/Waitrose and a delicious dessert.

Drink would be a rose wine

likelysuspect · Yesterday 22:05

A luxurious fish pie

CaffeinatedMum · Yesterday 22:09

I would do Buck’s Fizz for breakfast with a selection of mini pastries and fresh fruit.

Lunch I would still do a mini roast joint but then get M&S sides.

Dinner a baked Camembert or Brie with crust bread and lots of fizz.

I love Christmas on my own. Some years, I roast loads of veg, make bread sauce and stuffing, and a couple of Yorkshire puds, and a few pigs in blankets, but don’t bother with any roast meat. Some years I have a smoked salmon with shredded lettuce, capers, sliced onions, sour cream and lemon juice. And some years I get in nice charcuterie and cheeses, a loaf of sourdough and a bottle of claret.

Laska2Meryls · Yesterday 22:09

I'd definitely have a pan fried Duck breast for a main , ( crispy skin, but pink ) probably with carrots braised in butter onion and tarragon , peas, and potatoes ( I actually prefer boiled if they are new or salad potatoes, but if not some roasties, and a nice gravy made with chicken stock, the rested duck juices and white wine . Don't forget the dijon mustard on the side (yum) . Nice bottle of red to open early and sip through the evening . I wouldn't want this until late afternoon /early evening though .

Plus all the cheese, with biscuits and grapes for later. That would do me ..

Breakfast would be maybe some smoked salmon and scrambled egg .
Good coffee.

shellyleppard · Yesterday 22:10

Croissant s for breakfast, then a lovely steak dinner. Lots of your favourite foods to nibble on during the day.

Shedmistress · Yesterday 22:10

I never have trouble working out my favourite meal so I'd do that. Id probably do a full home made macaroni cheese with extra cheese, sliced heritage tomatoes over, tabasco and under the grill to crisp the top up, with a lovely buttered slice of fresh bread and some ice cream for pudding. Or a nice Spanish bean stew. Or refried beans with rice and tortilla chips.

As long as I could have the quilt on the sofa and the wood burner on with a cat or several mooching about the place, all would be well.

MondeoFan · Yesterday 22:10

Prawns, Toast and Pate, a Steak with a jacket potato. A bit later some posh crisps and a snowball or Limoncello

Beautifulsunflowers · Yesterday 22:13

Breakfast would be bacon and avocado on sourdough with Buck’s Fizz.
Lunch I’d do a baked Camembert cheese with more sourdough bread plus carrot/cucumber to dip.
Dinner - either a steak and chips or I’d do a mini turkey roast.

i actually think i would swap dinner and lunch round, and for snacks go for really lovely caramelised nuts, those cheap big bags of sour cream and chive mixed maize snacks and a massive box of chocolates I could graze on through the day.
Drink - champagne!

I feel I have given this too much thought!!

Have a wonderful time planning this day to yourself op and a great day

Interesting all my ideas I was thinking of have been mentioned very quickly! Rack of lamb, steak and duck and pancakes were on my list! I'll definitely be having some Brussel sprouts, regardless of what I make. They're my favourite!

Thanks all for your ideas, I am unfortunately a bit fussy and can't eat fish or seafood. I didn't include that in my post because I was really interested in what other people would choose 🙂

@Beautifulsunflowers I am a sucker for those sour cream and chive party mix bags!

Our local coffee shop opens on Christmas morning for take out so Oat flat white and an almond croissant for breakfast (I buy a box of pastries on Christmas Eve for everyone usually but I wouldn’t want to miss out of having one just for me).
Lunch would be scallops and chorizo with sourdough to mop up the juices.
Steak of choice for dinner with baby potatoes slow roasted in a tray with baby plum tomatoes and a little garlic.
Trifle for pudding… I would genuinely make one and have a portion on Christmas Day and Boxing Day 🙈.
A box of my favourite chocolates are always in my stocking to nibble over the holidays and I like to have nice nuts and crisps etc available.

Slightyamusedandsilly · Yesterday 22:16

Mmmmm. Sounds like bliss.

Breakfast, buttery scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on the side (not IN the eggs) and a slice of sourdough. Grapefruit juice.

Lunch, couple of lamb chops, new potatoes, green beans.

Dinner lovely olives, prawns, a cheese, crudite, homemade potato salad (the new potatoes) with gerkins and capers, baguette.

Snackies. Bendicts mints, couple of mince pies, mango, raspberries (maybe a bit of non-Eton mess).

Some sloe gin.

I'd do a bit of knitting. Watch a box set. If it's cold but dry and sunny go for a walk.

AprillyJill · Yesterday 22:16

What a nice thing to imagine.

Breadmaker fresh bread timed to be ready when I wake up, butter, grapefruit

Sparkling water in the fridge, ingredients to make a lovely fresh salad while listening to something uplifting
or funny.

vanilla ice cream and cream, possibly clotted.

florentines, favourite fruit,

A really nice cake in a tin waiting for me to cut the first slice. One that would keep nicely for a while to be shared another day.

I might include a roast and veg or another special hot meal or I might have a favourite soup with some if that fresh bread from breakfast.

Have a wonderful day 🎄
