God awful bag of frozen veg, what to do with it?

Asda delivered me the wrong bag of frozen veg. My OH took the delivery so didnt refuse it

I hate waste so these are going to be eaten, but I hate carrot rounds and find the texture of frozen broccoli and cauliflower horrible

So, what do I do with them to use them and enjoy them?

As above

Soup

And you could make it a cheesy soup too.

Roast them

Call them names, and take the piss out of their clothes. Like that??

Exactly. Tell them that their shoes are ugly, they don't have any friends and that nobody laughs at their jokes.

pulpJarvis · 24/09/2026 19:50

I’d put them in cheese sauce. And grill for a crunchy topping to it.

Use for a mirepoix veg trivet underneath your next roast. Then stick blend into the gravy.

@ItsAlwaysTwins beat me to it. Add onions and/or leeks and plenty of water for a pot roast. Blend the veg into the resulting gravy (of which there will be loads) and it will be rich and delicious and good for you.

I have never tried it but apparently frozen cauliflower is undetectable in smoothies..

CarrieMoonbeams · 24/09/2026 20:05

Do you know anyone with dogs? My dogs love a bit of boiled/microwaved veg on top of their dinner. They don't have much to trade but would happily give you a year's supply of kisses in return.

Latenightreader · 24/09/2026 20:07

I love cauliflower and broccoli in curry so I'd probably do that.

MsGreying · 24/09/2026 20:50

When did you last have frozen veg like this? Cook it and try it. It's much better than it used to be.

leavesinthebreeze · 24/09/2026 20:55

Cottage pie or pasta bake.
Or smother them in cheese sauce 😀

Cook the cauliflower, broccoli, leek and chopped bacon, mix it in cheese sauce, top with cheese and grill the top, serve with warm crusty bread.

whatisforteamum · 24/09/2026 21:07

Soup with a good onion base or a cheesey frittata with potato slices.

Well I do but only when used from fresh, the texture just seems so different with frozen

I do the whizzing thing with deliberately bought bags of frozen mixed veg. Add tomato puree/passata and so on for a great bolognaise type sauce. I don't eat red meat so that gives me my fix. It's nothing special but tastes great.

itsnotfairisit · 24/09/2026 21:26

Get a marker pen and write ‘knee peas’ on it and keep it as an ice pack for when someone in the family needs one

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/09/2026 21:51

Asda frozen veg? It will be the cheapest of the cheap. Dump it and not lose any sleep over it…

calypsosails · 24/09/2026 21:53

Life’s too short, get it in the bin

Fupoffyagrasshole · 24/09/2026 21:58

Deffo just blend it into a sauce

my kids never know their pasta and tomato sauce is actually laced with heaps of hidden veg!

Violinist64 · 24/09/2026 22:25

I know you said you hate waste but you also thoroughly dislike these vegetables. I think this comes in the life’s too short category. I would put them in the food waste bin, if you have one in your area. If you don’t, I would put them in the ordinary bin. The world will not fall in on this one occasion.

Fair point - I don't think I've ever had frozen cauliflower/broccoli but I imagine it doesn't have the same crunch as fresh. I'd probably still bung it in though to use it up, or blend it into a sauce.

RealistScot · 25/09/2026 08:04

I don't like the thought of the carrots alongside the cauliflower and broccoli...It may be far more hassle than it's worth but if it's just a mix of carrot rounds, cauli and broccoli I would separate them out. Roast the carrots in olive oil, cumin, salt and pepper and allow them to cool and then toss with fresh coriander and a bit of orange blossom water for a nice roasted carrot salad. For the cauli and broccoli then second the using with cheese sauce with or without macaroni.

Its been opened and its frozen? Who would want that and how does it work?

Strangely enough lots of people if your honest about the condition ive posted freezer clear outs before (recovering food hoarder) someone asked me for something specific I had but it had been opened i told them they took it anyway along with other part bags and some freezer burned sausages she was apparently not fussy and heavily into a zero food waste lifestyle if she didn't eat it her animals would
