...the last bit of mayonnaise out of the squeezey bottle??
Genuinly, I have so many arguments with the rest of the family because they throw them away with loads left

I simply put a bit of water in and swish it around to loosen it up. The stuff that comes out is a bit watery but it's better than wasting it.

DustyMaiden · 21/09/2026 20:36

Cut the bottle in half.

ConfusedSoShutUp · 21/09/2026 20:37

Buy jars.

TheSandgroper · 22/09/2026 13:29

Can you unscrew the lid? Tip some olive oil and wine vinegar in to make a salad dressing until it’s properly emptied.

didgeridid · 22/09/2026 13:31

I used jars and get a giant teaspoon 😅

TyneTeas · 22/09/2026 13:32

I got some silicone mini spatula jar scrapers quite cheaply of eBay

Long handle with a little spoon on one end and a little spatula on the other

Tourmalines · 22/09/2026 13:33

Cut in in half !

I do similar but add hot sauce and a bit of oil to make spicy mayo.
It can be used on salad, burgers, chips , pizza

Buy jars.

This.

The squeezy bottles are the devil's knadgers.

Bjorkdidit · 22/09/2026 13:41

Squeezy bottles, store upside down and 'shake' the contents down vigorously as it will sometimes force some of down towards the lid. Once you've exhausted that, cut in half and scrape the rest out.

Jars, use a long teaspoon (I got mine specially for this purpose from the pound shop, they're called sundae spoons).

I also do this with suncream etc. I filled a 50 ml moisturiser tub (so a quarter of the bottle) with the stuff I scraped out of a sunscreen bottle that wouldn't squeeze out. This is one of my personal bugbears and I'm sure that manufacturers deliberately make it difficult to remove the product so you give up and buy more.

Buy jars.

This. And a spatula. No plastic either

Another one who buys jars for this reason

peramo · 22/09/2026 14:01

I don't buy squeezie bottles of anything anymore. Jars and toothpaste like tubes of things are my go to now. With the jars I also use a long handled latte/sundae spoon and a narrow spatula. I make sure to get it all! Toothpaste like tubes (e.g. for moisturiser etc.) can be cut at the ends and there's always a ton of stuff left.

I like the idea of putting a drop or two of water in hard to reach jars etc. that's a good one!

5289843DM · 22/09/2026 14:02

I buy jars now but used to try with a butter knife to get it all out.

I'm sure I saw on dragons den or some show about a plastic product which made the bottle super slippery, so all the stuff would come out. I assume it didn't take off though or manufacturers didnt want it.

3ciLop · 22/09/2026 15:57

I guess the consensus is jars! Which I will go back to x

I don’t I make it with a stick blender it literally takes 30 seconds . Umpteen videos on you tube to show how but it could not be simpler and much less time taken than trying to empty a squeeze bottle.

JudgeJ · 22/09/2026 16:30

DustyMaiden · 21/09/2026 20:36

Cut the bottle in half.

That's what I do with lots of plastic bottles! A good pair of kitchen scissors always do the trick.

Surely it takes more than 'literally 30 seconds' to gather together said stick blender, container, eggs, oil and whatever else goes into mayonnaise? Then you have to clean up afterwards.

How long does it last when you've made it?

I know MN doesn't eat 'low fat shite' but many people buy reduced fat mayo, which is probably not possible to make at home.

I tried a kitchen scissors (recently sharpened too), and nope, I needed a hacksaw, which I didn't have because the plastic was like a brick.

Anyway that's why I don't use bottles anymore. Jars all the way.

Sainsburys squeezy is 500mL for £1, a jar is 500mL for 89P and you only waste a tiny bit, it's a no brainer. The only time I can see the squeezy being useful is if I was trying to make an edible "Jackson Pollock".

maureenponderosa · 22/09/2026 17:46

Make your own. Put it in a jam jar. It takes no time at all. I absolutely adore eating mayonnaise and I cannot believe it took me so long to start making it myself.
Tip: Add double the amount of mustard the recipe calls for.

It takes a few minutes in reality.

Mix with stick blender one egg, tablespoon of vinegar, two tablespoons of Dijon mustard, teaspoon of lemon juice, bit of salt. Then slowly drip oil into the mixture until it’s starting to emulsify. Then you can increase the speed you pour the oil until you’ve got the right thickness.
Spoon into jam jar. Throw everything in the dishwasher.

It’s astonishingly fast, satisfying and delicious. I’ll never buy mayo again.

I don’t believe in low fat food things, but surely reduced UPFs > low fat?

@BusyExpert & @maureenponderosa please can you share your " Literally. 30 seconds " and "no time at all" recipes . I'd like to give them a go.

ScottBakula · 22/09/2026 17:56

X post , thank you @maureenponderosa
