I normally do an almond cake:
250 gr of grounded almonds
250 gr of sugar
3 big eggs or 4 normal ones
Lemon zest

Mix all, put in a 22 cm mould, oven at 180 until golden. Decorate with icing sugar

As you'll be stuck for time, just make life easy. Ice-cream, berries, strawberry syrup to drizzle - or any other easy toppings.

BootMaker · 19/02/2026 20:18

We've got people coming on Sunday and I'm making a mango and passion fruit pavlova and a treacle tart with clotted cream. Steamed syrup pudding and homemade custard always goes down well too, or poached pears with a homemade cinnamon ice cream.

Trifle, simple to make, sherry can be added to give it a kick, adult and children friendly

chillichoclove · 19/02/2026 20:28

banoffee!!

MayaPinion · 19/02/2026 20:36

Bread and butter pudding but made with malt loaf. It’s like chewy toffee and custard had a baby.

Strawberry flan. Buy flan case in supermarket. Strawberries and red quick gel. Then whisk up some double cream. An absolute favourite and not too heavy after a roast

Absolutely - brush them off , make the banoffee pie , it is delicious .

Who has vetoed chocolate though (you know some strange people !)

This is well loved by my family and friends. They ask me to make it for any occasion.

I’m not a fan of elderflower, so, i don’t include it. Nigella prefers to have double cream with it, but, custard is my favourite.

I also like that really thick cream that you have to spoon out of the tub. Man alive that’s good.

Lemon and Elderflower Pudding Cake

Although this started off life as a variant of the Lemon and Elderflower Drizzle Cake in Cook, Eat, Repeat, it is this iteration which I’ve chosen to share with you here. I cannot urge you towards it too strongly: zingily uplifting as well as gorgeousl...

I make nigella clementine cake on repeat but mix it up with lemon during the year so good with cream.

Apple and cinnamon cake (Mary berry)
eton mess
banoffee pie
carrot cake
classic Victoria sponge
Apple strudel - custard and cream

Slightly off topic, but I made lasagne last week and came across Mary’s recipe, which was insane.
Her method is to boiled the bolognaise sauce in the oven for an hour and a half.
And then chill the completed lasagne in the fridge for 6 hours.

I mean, really. 8 hours to make a bloody lasagne??
Apparently, Mary came up with this recipe in the 70s, and the only thing she’s changed since then is to use olive oil instead of dripping.
I used her recipe for the béchamel sauce and that was it!

I love that, but my husband isn’t a fan, so i don’t bother.

Looks like a fab recipe for the summer, I do a fair bit of foraging so this will be perfect for then!

Fussy children on both counts

Just have ice cream on hand for any fussy kids.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/02/2026 10:39

I use the Delia Smith STP recipe that was originally John Toveys . It has Camp coffee ( blast from the past , I haven't drunk that since I was about 8yo but it is good in cooking ) , no treacle though .

I use the small pudding basins , they freeze well too .
I haven't done a large dish one , that looks worth a try !
Always a Christmas dish but it would work well any time .
