Recommend your garlic press

Looking for a new garlic press. Budget not particularly an issue but ideally under £30, and no plastic parts.

Currently eyeing up either the Kuhn Rikon or OXO Good Grips versions but would be very grateful if you have another type that you rate & can share.

(Yes, I’m aware I can chop and mince garlic with a knife. If that works for you, great! However, I want a garlic press).

Joseph Joseph stainless steel rocker (not the one with plastic parts). Easy to clean. Will last your whole life.

marylou25 · 09/01/2026 21:15

Rocker one for me too, I can't squeeze those other ones, you can get great force going on the rocker one!

OXO Good Grips - very happy with it - had it ages

About 20/25 years ago I bought the perfect garlic press from ikea. The press part, rather than being flat, had little cylinders that pushed the garlic through the holes. A bit trickier to clean, but not enough to take away from how effective it was. It broke and they've only had flat ones since.

I look for it every time I visit but alas, they have not returned to the previous design. Never seen it anywhere else either.

Sorry, no reccs, just wistful nostalgia.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/01/2026 21:28

I just use a knife, the pressed annoyed me.

wantmorenow · 09/01/2026 21:33

IKEA one here too. They do job and are indestructible. Sorry £30 for a simple gadget seems silly.

I know you’re after a press, and don’t want to use a knife, but have you considered a microplane?

I stopped using my garlic press after I got a microplane - so quick and easy, and so much easier to clean! Also really versatile (I also use it for ginger, Parmesan, zesting citrus)

Fluffywabbits · 09/01/2026 21:34

Another vote for ikea's garlic press!

This one. No contest!

Ikea hands down the best garlic press we've ever had

Do I have the most aggressive microplane? If my skin brushes against it at all it's shredded! And it's not even slightly easy to clean 🤔

Ikea

PipeOfPringles · 09/01/2026 21:48

Lakeland. Everyone on here recommended it, I think! I thought my old one was ok but this one is way better.

I do have to be a little cautious when the garlic is getting close to the end to avoid finger/nail shreddage 🫣

I find a rinse under the hot tap and then a once over the inside with a scouring pad gets all the garlic remnants out, though.

Prickofpredictability · 09/01/2026 21:58

Another vote for the ikea one I've had mine 13 years and it's used multiple times a week, every week and is perfect.

SausageRoll2020 · 09/01/2026 22:00

We have the OXO food grips and I would recommend. It has a bit to push through the waste so it's easier to clean too.

We have a garlic plate bought at a food festival a couple of years ago. It’s patterned and goes in the dishwasher. It’s been a game changer for us.

BlackCat14 · 09/01/2026 22:20

We have had about three or four in the past that have been mediocre at best. My boyfriend picked this up from the middle aisle at Aldi a few months ago and it has been a garlic game changer!

My mum often comes for dinner and I was cooking and showed it to her (I knew she’d be impressed) and found the same brand on Amazon. Got her one for Christmas and she loves it. I think they also stock this brand at Asda! Cheap and cheerful but my god it does the trick, and it’s been miles better than any previous, more expensive ones we’ve had.

Yes! Since I got my first one I would never consider any others. So quick and easy (and satisfying to use I find) .. much better for cleaning than the old hand press ones too.

Imtoooldforallthis · 10/01/2026 07:55

I cam on to say a microplane as well far easier to use and clean

DiscoBeat · 10/01/2026 08:17

I have had this one for years. It gets a lot of use and is definitely the best I've ever had.

I buy jars of KTC garlic puree from the world food shop for £1.

It eliminates the need for a press.
