what do your toddlers eat for breakfast?

My dd is 14 months old and is getting bored of her breakfasts, and the biggest barrier to giving her something different is a total lack of imagination on mine and dh's part! She's had a weetabix with some baby porridge sprinkled on (apple and blueberry flavour) for oooh...too many months now. She's a total toast addict and has a bottomless tummy for the stuff, so we want to give something else instead!
All ideas welcome...

yogurt?

Whooosh · 03/06/2008 20:11

Toast?
Scrambled Egg?

SoupKitchen · 03/06/2008 20:12

We give weetabix, porridge, muesli, rice crispies or toast

Why do they need more choice?
How much variety do you have in your breakfast?
I eat the same thing day in day out

Habbibu · 03/06/2008 20:14

Rice puffs - like rice crispies but without all the salt/sugar etc. Bagels, crumpets, fruit, french toast, bits of whatever I'm eating...

fillybuster · 03/06/2008 20:15

Breakfast is:
Porridge or Weetabix (with muesli sprinkled on top) or rice krispies
Followed by toast with butter and marmite
Sometimes followed by a small amount of fruit
Generally accompanied by a bit of dh's yoghurt

Dc1 is a bottomless pit when it comes to toast (actually, breakfast in general) but would happily fill up and then not eat anything else all day. So we ration the toast especially and give it at the end. He would willingly eat 2 weetabix and a full slice of toast, followed by fruit and yoghurt but it leads to refusals at lunch and dinner time, so I've clamped down a bit...
I find that choice of 2-3 breakfast cereals is enough - he generally single tracks on one for 1-2 weeks then moves onto a different one for a bit.

UpSinceCrapOClock · 03/06/2008 20:15

Mine likes oats with yoghurt on top (orange flavoured yoghurt - alternatively, plain yoghurt and then berries) and some raisins in. Actually I eat the same breakfast (and yup, we seem to have this day in day out as well, with the odd smattering of toast or scrambled eggs here and there )

FruitynNutty · 03/06/2008 20:18

weetabix and milk heated in the microwave then add chopped tinned fruit like prunes to sweeten it. It's yummy!

Flum · 03/06/2008 20:20

stuff that is good for all so only one breakfst needs to be made for whole family:

eg smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (luxury but yummy)
boiled eggs and soldiers
porridge and banana
Fresh fruit salad
cheese, ham and bread
hot chocolate and bread to dip in - v. popular with the kids, less so with DH
kippers and tomatoes - popular with DH less so with kids.

This is a good plan, but usually someone refuses to eat what is offered each morning. They get the second choice which is a banana.

blah blah, we do have just cheerios and fruit though about 3 mornings when it is a rush for us.

jingleyjen · 03/06/2008 20:21

cereals, porridge, toast, crumpets, croissant.
eggs
juice, milk to drink

MuffinMclay · 03/06/2008 20:22

Ds1 has cereal - Cheerios, rice pops, corn flakes, oatibix or weetabix - he picks what he fancies that day. Then toast and jam or pate, or bagel with peanut butter.

I have the same thing everyday though.

fiodyl · 03/06/2008 20:22

Both my DC are not that keen on breakfast cereal and will never eat one kind more than once so I have goven up giving it to them.

They will eat toast with butter, jam, marmite, peanut butter, cheese spread on. And other types of bready stuff like bagels,teacakes.crumpets.

The also have fruit for breakfast- chopped banana, strawberries, blueberries and grapes usually.

carrieon · 03/06/2008 20:22

Oooh, some good ideas, keep them coming! Dd isn't a massive yoghurt fan, but perhaps on her cereal it would go down? Def worth a try!
I also am happy eating the same thing day in day out, but after months of monotony it seems dd is on strike!
Open to all suggestions, esp the low sugar ones - I went to the 'kids cereals' bit of Sainsos today and was shocked at the amount of sugar on offer!

Mummy and Daddy.

Other children if they are stupid brave enough to come within arms reach.

Nbg · 03/06/2008 20:24

My ds will eat any cereal and I mean any.

Today though he had a yoghurt, apple, toast and a banana!

On the occasions we have a fryup for breakfast, he will eat sausages (even though he wont eat any other meat), eggy bread and tomatoes.

micci25 · 03/06/2008 20:44

sweet waffles
crumpets
cheese on toast
omlette
egg sarnie
toast with banana
rice crispies
baby cereal
porridge with banana or raisins
muffins with cheese spread or low sugar jam
wheetabix
fruit and yoghurt
dd2 is 1 year and loves all of these breakfasts

egg and soldiers
beans on toast with poached egg
bacon and egg butty
sauasges and scrambled egg with grilled mushrooms
pancakes with fruit and yoghurt
are other things that dd1 (4) eats for breakfast that dd2 doesnt get just yet

carrieon · 03/06/2008 20:48

I'm printing that list!!

DD (2.3)has cereal (porridge, weetabix, cornflakes, or rice crispies) with a pear, apple or banana chopped up in it.
Followed by a slice of malt loaf or toast.
Sometimes she has fruit (a different type) after that if she is still hungry- she can't half pack it away at breakfast!

FruitynNutty · 03/06/2008 21:08

or ready brek with St.Dalfour jam (sugar free and delicious)

Nappyzoneneedsanewname · 03/06/2008 21:09

mine was into cheerios for a long time but now has a weetabix fad going on or a scotch pancake thing.

ThingOne · 03/06/2008 22:36

DS2 (2) has
toast toast toast
weetabix with lots of milk
toast toast toast

lots of butter on toast and sometimes marmite if he asks

Croissants went down well on holiday, as did French supermarket "toasts" and lumps of fresh baguette.

He sometimes has as many as three breakfasts. One when he wakes up (early), one when big brother (4) has his breakfast (same menu apart from no weetabix, milk or marmite) and then sometimes at about nine.

I used to make my own bread but now we use so much we buy ready sliced as I couldn't keep production levels up. They can eat a loaf a day if they are both at home all day. I'm quite happy to issue toast in place of any other snacks as long as it isn't every snack/meal and not every day.

TattooedGrrrl · 06/06/2008 07:12

My 2ys old has:

Banana / Yogurt
Toast (white, granary, wholemeal)
Eggs (scrambled, boiled)
Cereal (Ready Brek, Cheerios)
Cheese on toast
Diluted juice

Not all in one morning of course..well, usually not.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/06/2008 07:29

Dd picks from puffed wheat, raisin wheats, shreddies or weetabix. If I'm having an egg then I cook her one too, but she only eats the white. She may or may not eat some toast too, and may or may not have an innocent smoothie. She also drinks copious amounts of milk (as well as a breastfeed just beforehand). Her appetite has always been a bit hit and miss first thing, but we just leave her food lying around for ages until she decides to eat it or we go out.

She'll occasionally have fruit toast or a crumpet or muffin as well/instead.

lovecat · 06/06/2008 08:40

scrambled egg on toast
dippy egg and soldiers
cereal (weetabix/rice krispies/coco pops/rice krispie shapes) and milk
toast with jam/honey/butter/marmalade
cheese on toast
yoghurt & fruit (usually a Little Rachel yog, fruit is grapes/strawbs/kiwi/banana/blueberries)
banana pancakes (usually only if I've got a banana turning black in the bowl) with butter, maple syrup and berries on the side
buttermilk pancakes, ditto

The latter two only if I'm feeling like wondermummy and we have nothing scheduled for the morning...

Chaotica · 06/06/2008 11:36

suggestions which we have which I haven't seen as I scanned the list:

toast and houmous
croissants with boursin/houmous
egg and avocado with toast
olives (her favourite, especially the ones stuffed with jalapeno )

moaningminnie2020 · 06/06/2008 13:56

My DD is 14 months too, she has Weetabix made with hot milk, plus half a banana. Or weetabix with a handful of shreddies type cereal, plus banana or apple. She eats more at breakfast than I do!

Have tried scrambled eggs or eggy bread but she seems to hate them...
