How to thinly slice cabbage?

I was trying to start to eat slaw with lunch/when hungry etc. I've tried to slice it with a knife but it doesn't get thin enough. Any ideas of what machines I can buy?

Then I'd have to lend you my ancient 1980s food processor with Julienne disc. That does long strips but you always end up with the carrot ends stuck between the disc and lid...probably why I resort to a grater, ha!

DM has a thing that looks like a spud peeler but way wider. Probably 1970s. We've got a box mandolin type thing, you can switch the plates out so you can thinly slice and julienne stuff. Dh uses that.

I tend to use the food processor though because I like my fingers 😂

Thanks. How would I do the carrots? Julienne?

My mandolin (a Benriner) has a julienne attachment so I’d just put that on for the carrots. I also have a julienne peeler which is great, cheap and really compact (but I need to remember that I need to abandon the end of the carrot for the sake of my fingers!)

I have a Julienne peeler for carrot and courgetti (haven't done that fad for a while) I got it from Lakeland and it is extremely sharp. Thanks for the idea I am going to make some coleslaw as it's the best homemade. I am the only one that will eat it though so need to portion control.

Is the brand worth the price?

If I want a little bit I use a knife, or a mandolin type thing, a little more and I use the food processor but for a full cabbage worth like I made yesterday you can't beat a slicer. I have one I use mainly for slicing bread for freezing but it does a great job on cabbage too.

I use a peeler - cut the cabbage into halves or quarters, depending on how big it is, then peel across the layers so you get really thin shreds.

I do the same. I use my potato peeler as the cabbage comes out lovely and thin

Electric mandolin from Amazon cost me about £30. I’m not one for lots of kitchen gadgets but I use it a lot and no risk of cutting fingers
