Just that, been looking on Amazon and can find every size but that one

Mine goes from 1/4 to a pinch… could you not just do a small spoon of the smallest you have?

soupyspoon · 16/06/2025 21:39

My smallest is a quarter.

AI reliably (lol) informs me that 1/6th is 2/3rds of 1/4 (ARRGGGHHHH maths!!!!!)

So iit tells me to use 1/4 and take a bit out. I'll never manage it to be honest, I'll spill it all over the place

So I think I might use 1/8th (have to buy a different set of spoons) and do half of 1/8th on top.

What are you measuring that only requires 1/6 teaspoon?!

soupyspoon · 16/06/2025 21:43

No knead bread, but for a very small pot

I made one over the weekend in my big cast iron pot and we're never going to get through it.

So the next one I make needs to be much smaller. I have asked AI (cant bring myself to call it Gemini, seems too familiar and we dont know each other that well yet), to work out what amounts I need for a 2.4ltr pot and it told me

So 1/6 is what I need but it says that I can use 1/8 and should be ok. Except I have to buy a new set of spoons for that

Just estimate it surely using the spoons you have. It’s not rocket science and you don’t need to purchase anything.

Well I dont have good eyesight and I have a disability in my hands and my dexterity is poor so estimating things in small tiny spoons is not easy for me. its better that I have the right equipment, my spoon set doesnt have a lot of different measures in it anyway and Ive noticed with other recipes I needed a bigger range. I prefer the look of some of the square type spoons also because then its easier to do half a measure, that would be easier to estimate in that shape of spoon.

Why don’t you make a bigger one and freeze the half/quarter of it that you don’t need? It would be a lot easier!

Seeline · 17/06/2025 09:36

1/8th is just the 1/4 spoon about 1/2 full.

ButteredRadishes · 17/06/2025 09:38

just eyeball it scoop just under half a 1/4 spoon, it wont make any difference

Daftapath · 17/06/2025 09:41

Weigh the full size and divide the weight by 6? Then weigh 1/6?

Unlikely to find scales that accurately weigh such a tiny amount.

We really dont eat a lot of bread, we'll probably take a month to get through the rest of what I did over the weekend. Possibly 2 slices a week we eat, if that (and thats only because its here). I have the slices of this loaf now in the freezer.

I like variety, I dont want to eat the same thing week after week so a smaller loaf is much better. The freezer is already full of my batch cooking.

So in a few weeks I will experiment with my next loaf and not have quite as much left over.

1/8th is just the 1/4 spoon about 1/2 full.

It is but the spoons Ive got are rounded, so you get less in the bottom than the top, so you cant do 'half' a spoonful and know its half

Anyway I will do 1/8th and its fine.

My set from Amazon (just white plastic) has a 1/3 spoon, easy to do half if needed

timestressed · 21/06/2025 13:27

Ia it for measuring salt or yeast?

soupyspoon · 21/06/2025 13:30

Its for yeast. I dont measure salt

OP posts:
UniversalTruth · 21/06/2025 13:37

It seems not enough. But anyway, for yeast in an overnight bread it will be accurate enough to use about 1g measured on scales. Maybe try that?

soupyspoon · 21/06/2025 13:39

Its because the flour will only be 2 cups worth, a scaled down recipe for a smaller loaf

Measure a full 1/4 spoon.
Tip it out onto a flat surface like a sandcastle.
Cut in half.
Save the other half for next time.

BIWI · 21/06/2025 15:30

Will the recipe even work with that small a quantity? Can you downscale recipes like that?

(I genuinely don’t know the answer to that!)

chattyness · 21/06/2025 15:44

I hope this link works OK if not then Google it and you'll find them . Kitchen craft do double ended measuring spoons with the size you want Spoons

TroysMammy · 21/06/2025 16:10

You can get measuring spoons, a dash, a pinch, a smidgen and a nip. A nip is 1/64. Is that the same sort of measurement as 1/6? (Crap at maths)

Mehmehmeh19 · 21/06/2025 16:10

Can’t you just ask whichever ai how much in grams weigh it on a digital scale

Well I will be having sharp words with Gemini if it doesnt go to plan!

I know, this is what this Gemini told me, I didnt realise they were actual terms, I couldnt find any on Amazon that had all of those measurements though, will try the link above that someone has posted.
