Breakfast for a crowd that doesn’t involve ‘full-English ingredients’

Looking for breakfast ideas for a largish group (c 16 poss 20 people).

We will already have had full English or a variation on that the first two mornings so I don’t want to repeat that or make anything involving eggs, bacon or sausage (although there will no doubt be leftovers if anyone really wants that again). Baked beans/mushrooms will also be included in the full English.

We could have a selection of cereal, maybe Bircher muesli, fruit, croissants/Danish pastries/muffins etc. I think most people would be happy with that so am not at a loss. I just thought I’d ask on here as I know there are always brilliant ideas I haven’t thought of.

Thank you.

Nigella's croque monsieur bake:

Easy, tasty, make it the night before.

You beat me to it. I've done this as prep ahead for a crowd before and always well received

My fave breakfast is protein bagel with cream cheese (Philly) smoked salmon avocado topped with squirt of lemon juice delissimo!

SomethingFun · 16/04/2025 10:59

Your 16-20 people are very lucky that you are making breakfast for them. I think bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese and/or croissants with ham and cheese would suit savoury and then just put out your sweet stuff as well and everyone can sort themselves.

Continental breakfast with cold meats and cheese along with croissants/brioche etc and some fruit seems the obvious choice and nice and simple to provide!

We share out all the catering between the group. Given that others are cooking dinners, lunches and full English breakfasts, seemed a bit unfair if we just put ham, cheese salmon etc on the table and tell people to help themselves, which is why I was looking for something a bit different that shows a bit of effort.

I do not eat cereals or pasty really, my idea of a good breakfast is toast and ham.

SomethingFun · 16/04/2025 14:05

I read it you had made breakfast all the days. Do a full English then if it’s your one and only time cooking for the group seeing as though they’ve been kind enough to do it for you.

My fave would be toast and common spreads like marmalade, Marmite and honey. Butter. Raisin toast. Good pot of tea.

Maybe, some more lavish choices for toast too like - avocado, Jarlsberg slices, peanut butter, tomato slices, banana, Maple syrup and sardines.

HanSB · 16/04/2025 14:17

For the last breakfast before you need to leave, you want it to be easy with the least amount of clearing up after as possible! I would just do ham and cheese croissants and yoghurt, granola and a big selection of fruit.

A Dutch baby gives pancake/ waffle vibes but is much easier to do for a crowd. You can even do the batter the night before and then just shove in the oven in the morning. I like it with a blueberry sauce and maple syrup.

InstantUserNameJustAddWater · 16/04/2025 14:55

Nadiya does a pancake bake, where you put all the batter in an oven dish and bake it rather than make lots of individual ones - would be ideal for a big group like that, plus you could vary it for savoury tastes - feta with pesto swirl maybe?

Nadiya's all-American peanut butter and jelly traybake can be made in 20 minutes and will satisfy those salty-sweet cravings.

When we have a big house full staying over we usually make a huge stack of pancakes or waffles and put maple syrup, blueberries and raspberries, bananas, granola, Greek yogurt, honey, croissants and crispy bacon and orange juice and coffee on the table, and let people serve the elves.

NewAgeNewMe · 16/04/2025 16:11

How about something like this? Variation on cooked breakfast. Just chuck everything in, in stages; it’s really easy and always a crowd pleaser.

I would still go with eggs. (Scrambled on toast ) But
Avocado on toast ?
Philly Bagels

Let the lazy elves serve themselves!

That sounds good plus add fruit and yogurt

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/04/2025 17:19

Another vote for something continental here. Croissants, bagels, crumpets, Greek yoghurt, melon, berries, ham, cheese, granola is my go to. If there are leftover sausages and bacon you could always add to the mix.

French toast can be made in advance, and then reheated in oven, if you could be bothered making it in advance.

CurlewKate · 16/04/2025 17:20

A big pot of porridge and lots of different things to put on it. My friend did this a while ago and it went down really well before a looong walk.

NewAgeNewMe · 16/04/2025 17:34

Anyone gluten free?

as porridge oats aren’t gluten free unless buying gf specifically.

Chocolateeggsandsugaredalmonds · 16/04/2025 17:41

I don’t like cold fish for breakfast and when I’m away I prefer something different to our usual breakfasts, so not porridge or granola or croissants or bagels.
When I do breakfast for a crowd it’s full English or kedgeree or shakshuka plus a selection of things like pain au chocolates, plain and almond croissants and/or home made muffins - sour cherry and pistachio, lemon and poppyseed and marmalade for example. It’s nice to have some fruit such as fresh figs (or really luscious, soft dried ones), little ‘easy peelers’, grapes.

NewAgeNewMe · 16/04/2025 17:53

Anyone have an easy recipe for kedgeree pretty please. I can never get it right.

OMGitsnotgood · 16/04/2025 18:01

Thank you all. Lots of interesting (but conflicting which doesn’t help ha ha ) suggestions.

Luckily and unusually for a group this size we have no dietary requirements. Some dislikes but I can work around those.

I’ve just asked our WhatsApp group if they would prefer another full English on day 3 and it was a resounding ‘no’, as I suspected. I’ve plenty of ideas to make it a bit different now, so than uou all for your help.

The cold meats, cheeses and pate with breads/bagels type of breakfast always goes down really well with my lot. I usually include fruit, yogurt and some croissants/pain au choc.

Bonus of similar for your situation is no cooking, not many dishes to wash and people can use anything leftover to make lunch for the journey home.
