English breakfast for 12

Twinkletwinklelil · 08/03/2025 07:23

How would you do an English style breakfast for 12 people?
I don’t want to be in the kitchen all morning but am having people over for brunch..
sausages, bacon, egg, beans and toast or hashbrowns?
I have an airfryer and oven. Slow cooker too but not sure it’ll be much help
what would be the easiest way to do this?

Sausage, bacon and hash browns on trays cooked in the oven.
Beans pre heated and kept warm in the slow cooker.
Eggs scrambled for ease

Fullofpop · 08/03/2025 07:29

I’d do a huge plate of different pastries
couple of platters of beautiful fresh fruit
a stack of yogurts smoothies and juices
cold meats, cheese and some breads

You forgot the black pudding!

Yes this, but I wouldn't attempt scrambled eggs, the timing is too tricky they turn to rubber in no time. I'd soft boil them, get some extra egg cups from a charity shop.

HarryVanderspeigle · 08/03/2025 07:39

You can cook the sausages before and just reheat them if that helps on the day. I would probably avoid toast, as it goes cold quickly and you can't do much at once. Definite just pick a cooking method per item, don't be asking how people like their eggs, how crispy their bacon etc. Take it or leave it!

ShortWide · 08/03/2025 07:40

I'd get an electric food warmer to keep beans, hash browns and eggs (definitely scrambled) warm.

Four slice toaster and large toast rack essential.

Airfry the sausages and fry the bacon.

Simples!

Failing that, Coco Pops all round 😁

Pensionquery101 · 08/03/2025 07:41

I would cook everything except eggs then as people were serving them self I would make a couple of batches of scrambled eggs. And just dollop on their plate.
you have to have eggs and it’s the only bulk way of cooking

So.... Nothing like what the OP actually asked for then.

Ok I would slow fry the sausages on low then put them on silver trays and cover with foil same for bacon. Cook hashbrowns in airfryer, then cook beans, I would do fried eggs much easier. When you’re ready to serve put sausages and bacon on pate, warm in microwave, make toast as your doing this and cook eggs/beans at end so all hot, could also do mushrooms/tomatoes too which would be easy x

I think if everything else was already done I'd have a go at fried eggs, using a large frying pan (or two) and probably in two batches. I'd serve myself and husband last so guests got theirs first. I do have plenty of room on my hob, though.

Nope 😂

Bacon on grill pans in the oven, along with sausages. Beans in slow cooker. Hash browns in the oven. I would go for fried eggs as per a Pp, esp if you have a large frying pan. Toaster and butter etc someplace where people can make their own.

Meant to say *plate not pate 😀

I cook breakfast for about 9 people a couple of times a year, oven is right, sausages and hash browns in first, move to a smaller dish to keep warm if you need more room for the bacon. Beans on the hob and I do scrambled eggs is in the microwave (after seeing this done in a cafe attached to a nice restaurant).

You can cook eggs for ten in a jug and they don’t need as much attention, cook for one minute at a time on medium whisking with a fork after each minute, reduce it to 30 seconds and watch them like a hawk when they’re nearly done, stopping when you think they’re slightly undercooked- that’s if you’ve got a microwave.

Toast’s fine too, pile it up on a warm plate in a warm place. I always do extra toast and jam afterwards as some people want more.

Cook sausages in the oven, hash browns in oven (at same time obviously), bacon under the grill if you have a separate one from oven or air fryer, fry eggs on hob, heat beans on hob, toast can be kept warm with a double foil wrap plus tea towel whilst you cook next ones

I wouldn't do eggs, they need timing.

I'd do all of the above, plus buttered mushrooms and grilled tomatoes, all easy to prep in advance.

minnienono · 08/03/2025 07:57

I do make sure I have some pastries, I make my own cranberry orange bagels which are very popular (great British bake off recipe), fresh fruit platter plus ensure milk and sugar is on the table with mugs so you can bring over pots of tea and coffee meaning you aren't serving drinks and people can nibble if there's a delay on say eggs

tinydynamine · 08/03/2025 08:07

A massive fritatta with bacon rashers Meghan-style and a rainbow fruit platter to follow?

Craving a full breakfast now Grin

Don't forget to heat the plates, makes a huge difference!

Floranan · 08/03/2025 08:37

Are you serving at the table to all eat together or doing it as people stroll into the kitchen?

I’ve done both, well I did sit down breakfast for 18 once ! That was fun. I fried the sausage until almost done then into the oven to keep warm and finish, bacon in the airfryer is easy if you have shelves if not then lay onto baking sheets and in the oven or do in the grill. Beans on the hob. Hash browns airfryer/oven depending on room. I made 3 frittata just plain ones and cut them up. Mushrooms and tomatoes easy. I then set the table with two toasters one each end (I borrowed one) so people could cook toast, I found me one end DIL at the other and we just popped toast in as we eat and everyone just got it as they wanted. 2 bigs pots of tea and coffee big jugs of apple and orange juice. It was great fun, but boy did it make a lot of washing up give me a roast any day .

if it’s more relaxed buffet style. I would cook everything as above but keep warm in the oven and beans in the slow cooker, you could then fry eggs as people come in. I personally find this more hard work for the person cooking and you feel more like greasy spoon chief than a host.

the best thing I have ever bought is my heating tray, I have 3 now, brilliant for times like this.

SlugsWon · 08/03/2025 08:38

I find cooking large quantities of eggs in the microwave so difficult! Tried it once - you need to open the door and stir every minute or so and it takes about 10 minutes. How on earth is that easier than a pan??

Also not what you asked - but I'd do bagels. Big basket of fresh bagels, platter of smoked salmon, cream cheese and then 'fixings' such as red onion, tomato, cucumber slices, capers etc..

You could also do trays of sausages and bacon, fresh fruit and nice juices. So still get the cooked breakfast vibe, but less to do last minute!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/03/2025 08:45

Sausage, bacon, has browns in the oven. Don't bother with toast. You could do some mushrooms in the oven if so inclined. Beans in the microwave if you have to. Eggs I would do scrambled last minute but you can do them on a sheet pan in the oven.

Lovelysummerdays · 08/03/2025 08:47

I think the trick is do things in stages. Sausages, black pudding, hashbrowns, bacon, tomatoes done in the oven transfer to serving dishes to keep warm or air fryer. I tend to do big omelettes which are served frittata style mushroom and cheese always goes down well. You can do this day before and warm through. Nice bread and basket of croissants (warmed).
