Pudding..what do you give your children?

maidamess · 29/04/2008 18:19

I have just smeared one digestive with Nutella, and one with ice cream and sandwiched them together.

Desperate measures for a family that needs to go food shopping.

What do you give your kids for 'afters?'

BTW my trademarked Nutgestive was delicious.

Mmmmm that sounds lush....

DarthVader · 29/04/2008 18:20

Chocolate mousse or home made cake

Swedes · 29/04/2008 18:21

Our meals are mostly puddingless

Yoghourt
Fruit
Trifle - home made
a square or three of CDM
ice cream

RIELOVESBACARDI · 29/04/2008 18:22

nothing only on a special occastion

PandaG · 29/04/2008 18:23

fruit, yoghurt or occasionally icecream and fruit. sometimes I make a crumble or microwaved steam pud (home made), but this is rare.

MrsMattie · 29/04/2008 18:23

DS usually has yoghurt and fruit. Ice cream occasionally. Sometimes fruit and custard. He had pancakes today.

He's not keen on 'proper' puds, the little freakoid.

pinkyminky · 29/04/2008 18:24

Sounds yum.
We have the usual things-
yoghurt
fruit jelly
fromage frais
rice pudding
fruit
cake
if we've been baking, whatever we made
fruit pie
stewed fruit & custard
ice cream
strudel

mainly fruit based, as you can see!

pointydog · 29/04/2008 18:26

chocolate mousse, yoghurt, biscuit, bit of cake. Ususal boring stuff really

expatinscotland · 29/04/2008 18:26

i love to bake, so we always have a pud.

today is chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

i also made no bake cookies as a snack.

or we have rice pudding with jam, a pie, a fruit cobbler or shortbread or biscuits.

in summer it's jelly and ice cream or Jell-O puddings/custards from the US.

micci25 · 29/04/2008 18:26

rice pud or yoghurt if they are really lucky i might have ice cream in but usually there dad eats this before they get the chance

maidamess · 29/04/2008 18:28

expat please come and live with me.

I'll make you nutella smeared on a digestive.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 29/04/2008 18:31

i do like nutella in a toastie with brown bread, but that's more of a picnic snack.

DH makes ice cream in our ice cream maker in summer and jelly is dead easy.

so is making cupcakes!

for cobblers, you can cheat by using Jus-Roll pastry and canned fruit.

MrsMattie · 29/04/2008 18:31

Mmmm expat, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?

PestoMonster · 29/04/2008 18:31

homemade:-
fruit crumble
muffins
parkin
pancakes
flapjacks
fruit (fresh or tinned)
fruit bars
yoghurts
jelly
icecream
ice lollies (more frequently in the Summer)
baked bananas
baked apples
brownies
malt loaf

MargaretMountford · 29/04/2008 18:33

mmm, nutgestive sounds wonderful - ds wouldn't thank me for it...
he has fruit in fruit juice mostly with extra chopped up fruits added and sometimes jelly, sometimes a chocolate fromage frais

maidamess · 29/04/2008 18:33

I make a fair effort with the main course but the puddings always seem to be fruit or yoghurt.

My children are revolting. (In both senses)

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 29/04/2008 18:34

ice lollies are easy - just freeze chocolate milk in a lolly mould.

or smoothie mix.

Hulababy · 29/04/2008 18:48

DD isn't a big fan of proper puddings and she doesn't like ice cream or ice lollies at all. So, she will have some fruit followed by a mini size bar of chocolate.

ChasingSquirrels · 29/04/2008 18:48

yoghurt usually
or custard & banana (or raisins)
or rice pudding

pinkyminky · 29/04/2008 21:11

Oh dear pregnant lady alert- you are generating a Nutgestive craving. Poor Dh is going to be sent on yet another food mission!

Yorky · 29/04/2008 21:30

Nutgestives are so much better when one is spread with Nutella and the other with crunchy peanut butter). Rich teas work too!

maidamess · 29/04/2008 21:37

Yorkie you are thinking of the new 'PeaNutgestives'.

I prefer the classic 'Nutgestive'. I'm thinking of bringing out a range of mini Nutgestives for packed lunches.

pinkyminky · 29/04/2008 22:00

ooh I might buy!

lovecat · 30/04/2008 13:18

I like the sound of the peanutgestive....

DD had nowt but plain greek yog and fresh fruit til she was about 2 and grew out of her wheat intolerance. Then the floodgates opened....

I bake a lot so if she has room for pud (she's quite good about telling me she's had enough to eat and doesn't want a pud) it's usually a little rachel/lazytown yoghurt (no sugar) or a small slice of LDC/cupcake/gingerbread man/brownie/choc cake etc etc. She doesn't like my choc chip banana bread but otherwise has eaten the lot. Doesn't like jelly either, weird child.

Or a scoop of home-made ice cream. She's gone off milk as a drink or on flakes entirely, so I've been using the resulting milk glut (I'm loathe to cancel the milkman in case she comes back to it) to make ice cream, which she adores. Her faves so far are strawberry, mint choc chip and mango ripple (didn't have enough mango to make proper mango icecream so I cheated!)

indignatio · 30/04/2008 13:31

fruit then small chocolate treat
