Any ideas for things to take to work for lunch? We don't have a toaster.

Do you have a microwave?

Yes we do

I just take a sandwich or a wrap and a piece of fruit.

SallyWD · 08/11/2024 18:47

A flask of soup and a roll/sandwich? I have a thermos soup flask, and it's still lovely and hot at lunchtime.
Otherwise I'm just boring and take nice rolls or baguette with cheese and salad. My colleagues all seem to bring interesting salads.

Couscous with roasted veg

xyzandabc · 08/11/2024 18:48

Leftovers to microwave, sandwich, wrap, hummus and oat cakes, soup? What do you normally eat for lunch?

SallyWD · 08/11/2024 18:48

As you gave a microwave, you could make extra for dimmer and bring in leftovers. I used to do that.

DoublePasta · 08/11/2024 18:48

I take a

chicken and salad sandwich using a warbutons 'thin'.
Aldi Greek yogurt and frozen blueberries and pumpkin seeds
A finger of fudge

My dd takes a thermos of pasta.

Salad, sandwich, soup, wrap.

Is a toaster important to you?

I love things on toast - beans, banana, pate, cheese, etc. So feel a bit lost with no toaster (we're not allowed one either)

Yes we do

I’m which case take leftovers - I always make more food than we need for dinner so that there are leftovers for lunch.

Are you saying you eat toast for lunch every day? Not judging, just curious. 😅

Never tried but does toast go soggy if you put it in the microwave for like 15 seconds or so?

This is what we do, enough for at least two more lunches.

Well if you make toast and let it go cold, put some butter/cheese on it and put it in the microwave for a short time, please let me know if it works! 😀

DilkushaKitchen · 08/11/2024 19:18

Today I had a salad made from bulghur wheat, grated (raw) beetroot and carrot, spring onions, sesame seeds, cucumber, tomato and coriander, with a dressing made from extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice, then crumbled some shop bought falafels on the top with a mini pot of houmous, was delicious and really filling.

I "cooked" the bulghur last night and grated the carrot and beetroot, so just chucked it all together this morning.

OddBoots · 08/11/2024 19:19

My son is a toast lover too - the closest he can do is bringing a sandwich in one of these and using the microwave to make himself a toastie. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-511644-Sandwich-Microwavable/dp/B0853WGHKC/

confusedlots · 08/11/2024 19:19

I'm not a big fan of sandwiches and usually like to have something warm at lunch so would be lost without a toaster too! I sometimes make a big batch or chicken fried rice in the air fryer which lasts for a couple of days lunches, or chicken pesto pasta.

This is how my MiL used to make cheese on toast for our kids, toast the bread and then put the cheese on and melt it in the microwave. The toast was hot at the time, but I don't think it would make much difference!

I can’t see why it shouldn’t work really.

Buy a Crimpit. Then you can have toasted like things done in the microwave.

BobbyBiscuits · 08/11/2024 19:30

I remember there being a forore surrounding the reason why we weren't allowed a toaster at work.
Someone snuck one in from home and all hell broke loose.
Something slow cooked at home like stew, heated in the microwave. Or just a sandwich? I never want to eat anything too fancy while working. It kind of feels distracting!

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/11/2024 19:41

If it's that important to you, can't you just buy a toaster for work and take it with you when you leave that job? It would be nice if your employer would provide it, but if they won't it's only going to set you back a few £.

It’s a fire risk. I assume anyway? If not just bring your own toaster OP.
