Hendersons relish.

NoahVale · 07/09/2024 14:14

i guess the question should have been Bolster it, rather than boost it

Green lentils

quirkychick · 07/09/2024 14:16

Miso paste and dried mushrooms add umami (savoury) flavour. Celery, carrot, onion, leek fried up, herbs, garlic. Celeriac mash is delicious on top too.

PurpleHiker · 07/09/2024 14:16

Potato and cauliflower mash on top

Blueberrycreampie · 07/09/2024 14:18

A little Cumin, Paprika and tomato purée is great!

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 07/09/2024 14:19

You can add loads of different chopped veg - carrots, leeks, peppers, mushrooms are popular for me. Also always add a couple of handfuls of puy or green lentils to bulk it up.

Also, sometimes add butternut to the mash to up nutritional content.

PollyOrange · 07/09/2024 14:20

Lentils and a lot of carrot and onion / celery

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 07/09/2024 14:20

you could also add fairly finely chopped aubergine, cabbage, courgettes.

Diplidocus4 · 07/09/2024 14:20

Marmite ?

NoahVale · 07/09/2024 14:22

all sound great

Someone already mentioned grated carrot, add grated courgette too.
Another vote for lentils (green/put are my preference)

DannSindWirHelden · 09/09/2024 14:57

Orange lentils (shouldn't even need precooking) and mushrooms.
But I'm mostly baffled how the world's most innocuous thread has got so many deletions?

I’m wondering about this - maybe it was a row about Hendersona vs Worcester sauce 😂

I’m horribly interested to read them!

Definitely like some grated cheese as I don’t like that “ dry” potato crust you get otherwise.

Celery is nice for texture and those tiny baby onions.

My immediate thought was that someone suggested making it with beef mince instead of lamb and someone else informed them firmly that "THAT'S COTTAGE PIE ACTUALLY!"

BlastedPimples · 09/09/2024 15:11

Lentils.
