Start with sofrito, then plenty of fresh garlic. Add lamb mince and brown it. Add a dash of HP sauce and a couple of teaspoons of gravy granules, rosemary and oregano, and some frozen peas. Salt and pepper. The potatoes for the mash should have butter milk and salt. Bang in the oven for 20 mins. Yum.

Jamaican scotch bonnet sauce (1 teaspoon) to the minced meat and cheddar cheese on top .

Failing that, Henderson's relish

Bignanna · 09/09/2024 15:14

Worcester sauce

AgileGreenSeal · 09/09/2024 15:16

Worcester sauce.

I make it with beef Mince as that's what the recipe I use calls it. I add a teaspoon of marmite as well as beef stock cubes and carrots. I grill the cheese on top. We love it

Irridescantshimmmer · 09/09/2024 15:17

Grated chedder cheese melted on top of the potatoes.

Yum

GingerLiberalFeminist · 09/09/2024 15:18

Mushrooms, courgette, carrot in the mince. You can blend them if looking to disguise them!

I make the mash either with mustard or (vegan) cheese. You can also add breadcrumbs and mixed herbs to the top for added crunch.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 09/09/2024 15:19

I always add a layer of chopped frozen vegetables....

DadJoke · 09/09/2024 15:20

More lamb!

Seriously, Worcestershire sauce, peas, mushrooms carrot, celery and a bit of bacon.

Icanttakethisanymore · 09/09/2024 15:22

I do half lamb mince and half green lentils.

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 09/09/2024 15:26

Sweetcorn, mushroom ketchup, worcestershire sauce, curry powder, peas, baby butter beans (not all at once).

Sorry, can’t resist: that’s cottage pie.

But I agree it’s nicer.

I like adding some tinned tomatoes, dash of Worcester sauce and a little chilli, then more often than not I put cheese on top.

carrot, onion and peas are the standard things. I put chopped tinned tomatoes and tomato puree in mine, too.

TheRealSlimShandy · 09/09/2024 16:33

Also my dad used to use a “stew pack” in his. So it included things like swede and turnip.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 09/09/2024 16:55

Tomato purée, a crumbled Oxo cube and a hefty slug of red wine.

DiscoBeat · 09/09/2024 16:57

I add chilli flakes and red lentils, often mushrooms too. Sometimes I add red wine and have a mixture of sweet and big dl potatoes for the topping.

FranticFrankie · 09/09/2024 16:58

Cheese topping for sure!!!
