My ds & dd are at a school a few of there class mates are Muslim and and a couple are vegan, I feel bad because they miss out on a lot of the birthday and Christmas sweets that are given out by parents of the other kids in there classes, dose anyone know of any multi pack sweets that will cover both, please remember I need 70 small packets of sweets for Christmas as I don't know all the children and don't want to forget one or two that might need halal or vegan, oh and it's a no nut school

@SwanRivers what should be looked out for on the ingredients list if it's vegan to ensure it's halal too?

Mostly alcohol but Google will tell you more.

Blimey, I admire your forward planning but to be thinking about class Christmas sweets 5 months in advance, is really quite something!

I have my daughters birthday not long after school goes back, and my block of flats have a few muslim kids in and this year none are going away for holidays so the garden will be busy

Yes they must have tasted so much better with actual pig in them 🙄

Well yes they did. Seemingly it is recognised as their sales are falling.

Haribo UK do 2 vegan ones buy they don't sell in multi packs, and there's one halal but it mostly in Tesco and not the local,

The Percy pigs are vegan but yea I don't think they are respectful towards the Muslims (I know they are only sweets)

Wait for halloween stuff to be out. swizzlers sold tubs and bags of vegan sweets last year in little packets. Lots are accidentally vegan. Cheap and easy way to do it.

I would go to a Middle Eastern supermarket (if you have one, we have three) and ask them what they have that's halal and vegan.

I do have a few, I'll pop in today on my way through town and have a look

Lidl and Aldi - both great vegan ranges for sweets, Percy puts also vegan

I used to get the Peppa pigs from there but my ds said Peppa pig is for babies, and one of the kids in the block pointed out that so Muslims might find it offensive then she ate them lol

I buy these, they seem to suit all. Usually in home bargains for about 79p a pack of 7.

I will pop in b&m see if they sell them too, unfortunately I don't have easy access to a home bargains

swizzles love hearts etc are vegan friendly. You can find a list of accidently vegan sweets brand here veganuary.com/accidentally-vegan-sweets/

APurpleSquirrel · 15/07/2024 09:47

In that case go for Skittles - original are vegan & halal & they come in mini bags.
If you wait a bit you might also get their Halloween version - The Dark Side Skittles which have different flavours.

Gelatin of any kind is obviously not vegan but some halal sweets use halal beef gelatin. All of the other listed ones aren’t vegan so won’t be in vegan sweets, shellac & carmine are from small insects, beeswax is obviously from bees, and palm oil is a question mark one- it’s a vegan product but because of the ethical issues around it some chose to avoid it. So if you chose vegan sweets, you will cater for everyone you need to
